In honor of dental wellness month we will answer some of the most popular questions regarding teeth and dental disease.

1. When do dogs begin to lose their baby teeth?
Puppies begin losing baby teeth around 12 to 16 weeks of age. By four months of age, almost all of a pup’s deciduous teeth have been shed and many of the permanent teeth have already erupted and are in place. If you notice that the deciduous teeth are hanging on even after the permanent teeth have erupted, we can take a look and come up with a plan to get those removed.

Winter weather can be especially hard on senior pets. As pets age it can be harder for them to regulate their body temperature, so extra blankets, coats and sweaters can help keep them warm. Cold weather can also affect their joints, making them achy and stiff, so limit time outside and reduce activity such as running and jumping.

Should you notice your senior pet struggling during the colder weather we have several options that may help, including laser therapy, medications for inflammation and warm baths!

Changing lives for the better: Every Day.

In 1939, Dr. John Woodworth and his family founded Woodworth Animal Hospital. At the time, there were only 70 licensed veterinarians in the entire state, and most of their work revolved around larger animals and working farms. With the establishment of the clinic, they were able to turn the focus to companion animals and family pets, but they didn’t stop there.

80 years later, the clinic has rolled its way into a third generation of working Woodworth veterinarians, as well as cultivating a devoted group of administrative staff, veterinarians, technicians, and assistants. We have strong ties to other local veterinary facilities and animal rescue groups. Most importantly, we have a solid and ever-growing client base who trust us to care for valuable members of their families. We are proud and honored to provide services for families in Waynesboro and the surrounding areas, to answer questions and provide education and solutions towards better, affordable healthcare, animal enrichment, and the human-animal bond.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your trust in us, and we hope to continue to serve you for another 80 years and more!
