This handsome boy was found a couple of days ago in Keysville on Martin Luther King Rd near the store. He's very clean and knows some basic commands so we're sure someone's looking for him. If he belongs to you, proof of ownership and payment of impound fees are required to reclaim.

CHEESY IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION!!

She obviously hasn't had the greatest life so far ... can you change her future??

Cheesy is a terrier/pittie mix. She's very slender in build and even when she gains the weight she needs, she's not going to be a big, bulky dog. She's got a bit of a longer coat, more like a lab. She's sweet and happy to be living inside and getting fresh food and water every day ... her belly was full of deer corn when she arrived. It was probably all she could find to eat. She's going to make someone a great companion and her adoption fee is sponsored!!

This little deaf mama and her 8 puppies were brought into the shelter yesterday as strays from Gordon Rd in Sardis. If they belong to you, proof of ownership and payment of impound fees are required for reclaim. Mama is ill and receiving medical care here at the shelter.

Do you have a chilly pup?? ❄️❄️ We have had some generous donations of both new and gently used sweaters and coats lately. If your dog is cold and you'd like a sweater, please come by the shelter to pick one out. MOST of them are smaller sizes with only a couple that would fit larger dogs. We're here until 5:00 today!

We picked this little lady up after a welfare complaint in Midville. If she belongs to you, please contact the shelter - our number is on the door tag that our officer left for you. Rest assured, she's out of the freezing temperatures now.

We know that realistically, not everyone allows their pets into their home. In the case that your pet does live outside, understand that there are laws regarding their care and housing. We're facing some cold and wet weather this week, it is your legal responsibility to provide shelter for your pets!!

PENDING RESCUE RIDE!

HANSEL is all alone since his sister was adopted last week. He's an adorable shepherd mix, about 9 weeks old and 10 pounds. He's up to date on his vaccinations and deworming and flea control. His adoption fee is only $40 and we'll give him his own toy to take home with him!

ADOPTION UPDATE!!

"WE adopted Muranda, now Lilly in May 2024. She was so scared and timid, and she wouldn't make eye contact at all. She is now a hyper, confident, well loved family member! We can't imagine life before her!

ADOPTION UPDATE FOR BENNY!

"General, now Benny, is a super independent and vocal boy! He spends most of his days patrolling the kitchen and napping at the tip top of his cat trees!

He loves his treats and is more than happy to let you know when he’s ready for them!

He’s not big on cuddles, unless they’re from his baby cat brother! It didn’t take them long after a gradual introduction period to warm up to one another. They love to snuggle up in one cat bed for their daily naps (even though they have multiple beds😂!).

Benny has been a great addition to our family and we adore his big personality! Thank you very much! Happy holidays!

"Luckie was adopted back in September 2024. She has fit into our family perfectly. She gets along with our Doberman mix and our cat. Our granddaughter loves her to death. We are blessed to have her as part of our family."

Many of you will remember Vic, he was a senior stray, heartworm positive with a bleak outlook here at the shelter. Well, a fabulous family stepped up and offered him a furever home. Here's what his mom has to say about Vic ...

I keep seeing posts of adoptions with happy endings. Here is ours. A year ago we adopted Vic, who was heart worm positive. He has since been treated. He loves laying by the fire. Knocks on the door to go out or come in( we did not teach him that. He figured it out on his own). Vic lives time outside with the family and horses. He low crawls around the yard often ( we say here is scoping out any threats, but I think he's scratching his tummy) opened his own presents this year. We love the big guy. 🥰

Time for some adoption updates!!

These are R***r and Augustus and here's what their mom has to say about them...

Hello!

This year, we adopted a teeeeeny tinnnnnny black kitten that was born at your shelter! He was known as Jibber, but we changed his name to R***r. His playful affectionate spirit captured our hearts, but we knew he needed a brother. We came back to Burke County Animal Shelter 3 months later just looking to see if any little kitties personalities would fit our little family. We saw a sweet quiet little baby just lounging in the corner of his enclosure where all of his siblings were going crazy! We knew that sweet calm little kitten known as “uncle Ben” (now our Gus) would be a fit for us. After a few days of adjusting, R***r and Gus quickly became inseparable. They are both lively little guys full of energy and love. They don’t meet strangers and they love greeting new people. They are both harness trained, and we are working on teaching R***r some tricks! They love their cat tree, but they love sleeping in between our feet more. Gus loves when R***r chases him, and he loves to play with hair scrunchies and his ball with a bell inside of it. R***r loves to wrestle, and he loves to play with his toy feather mice the most! They are OBSESSED with their Grandpawrents and they love when both sets of them come to visit. R***r’s favorite treat is boiled shrimp, and Gus loves to eat in general….
