Since it’s that time of year, let’s talk about mats!

What is “Matting”?
-“Matting” refers to densely tangled clumps of fur in a pet's coat. If a coat is not properly and frequently brushed, loose and live hair become embedded in large masses. Sometimes mats can be combed out, but if left too long, it is impossible without seriously harming the animal.

It can also be INCREDIBLY PAINFUL.

•Why care about mats?
Since mats rest tightly on the skin, they often hide pre-existing conditions. Shaving them can reveal injuries such as inflammation, infections, restricted movement and sometimes blood circulation problems due to the tightness of the skin the matting has caused.

•‼️Importantly‼️ Matting on the ears restrict blood flow, so they can cause hemotomas. Removing matting can cause a sudden rush of blood to the ears. For that reason, bleeding can occur; typically at the tips of the ears.

WHY DO MATS HAVE TO BE REMOVED WITH CLIPPERS?!

• Mats are ALWAYS removed with clippers because it is usually the safest option.
•Brushing matting out of a dogs coat can be EXTREMELY painful.

Humanity, over vanity! It is important to remember, hair always grows back.. so no brushy brushy, we shavey shavey!

Business is expanding, and I have decided to partner up with Nancy at Wags 2 Whiskers Pet Salon in Waynesboro, PA!

This opens up a lot more opportunity to the public to get on my books, as I have LOTS more space and flexibility now that I am not working solo in my shop with divided rooms.


My name is staying the same, as well as my love for all of my clients. Hours, prices… it’s all the same! Just a bigger place with more opportunity 🙂

Hey yall, PLEASE READ One of our very own, Arlo, needs our help. He is a huge part of the Mutt Cuts community and is such a light to us when he walks in the door. He is the sweetest little guy, so full of spunk and life. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with Mega Esophagus.. this means he no longer can eat nor drink like a normal dog in order to get food into his tummy. With that being said, there is so much ahead of him that consists of vet visits, testing, medications, and the equipment he will need in order to eat and drink without risk of aspiration. I’m asking so sincerely from the bottom of my heart that we can help save his life as a community. Anything is appreciated, even if it’s just a click to share this post. If you’d like to donate to the ‘Save Arlo Fund’ Venmo: SAVEARLO I will also be sharing a go fund me created for him later today. To Kristi & Tim, you aren’t alone.
