We're SO excited to launch our new social media series, Humans of Eventing (and yes, don't worry, we've talked to the owner of the Humans of Eventing social pages 😀). This portrait series will highlight all of the unique humans that make up our incredible sport and their connection to the sport. "The eventing community is an enormous family. Everyone looks after each other. You never feel like a stranger."

For Mary Kay Davidson, horses have always been a way of life. She grew up riding, passed the passion on to her daughters, and now watches her granddaughters follow in the same hoofprints.

"My grandmother was a rider. My mother was a rider. I was a rider. My sister tried, but it didn’t stick. I was well and truly infected."

Though dressage was her foundation, it was eventing that reignited her excitement years later. A trip to the Defender Kentucky Three-Day Event (where we met Mary Kay and took this photo of her)—thanks to her granddaughter’s internship—opened her eyes to the sport’s energy and camaraderie.

"I had so much fun. It wasn’t just the competition—it was the people. The way eventers take care of each other, the way no one feels like an outsider. It’s something special."

Mary Kay has since found her own adrenaline rush in combined driving, a discipline that echoes the thrill of eventing from the driver’s seat.

"If you love the feeling of going fast, of trusting your horse completely, of that perfect balance of control and chaos—eventing and combined driving aren’t so different."

But no matter where she finds herself—on the ground, in the saddle, or behind the reins—one thing remains constant:

"It doesn’t matter what discipline it is. At the end of the day, it’s always about the horse."

As 2024 comes to a close, we wanted to share what we’re proud of so far in WCS….And what we’re excited about for 2025 😉

Proud of:

A barn that is always full… and a steady stream of inquiries about our farm❤️

A community that continues to grow…one that fills our home to the brim during our annual dinner…with students who stop by during the winter months because they miss the horses…and clients who leave notes of thanks for the “wonderful care” of their horses… and who are all as excited by all of it as we are❤️

Our investment in our students…striving to meet each exactly where they are, and helping them get to where they want to be❤️

Looking forward to 2025…

I’m excited to continue to learn in all areas of horsemanship, through clinics/shows/educational forums, and share with our WCS community❤️

We decided to hop across the pond to experience the excitement of the Badminton Horse Trials 🐎 Such a fantastic atmosphere and crowd enjoying the sport that we love so much! Definitely a bucket list item ♥️

The sun is shining…the birds are chirping…and Aikin is enjoying all of it!

Spring fever in the air 🌸😂

The Winding Creek guard dog never takes a day off. As you can see, she works quite hard!
