Fun Dog Facts of the Day! They are pretty woofderful!

1. Petting a dog lowers blood pressure and reduces stress.
2. Grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, wild mushrooms, chocolate, and macadamia nuts are extremely toxic to dogs.
3. Toothpaste made for humans is toxic to dogs. Fortunately, there is toothpaste for dogs too!
4. Dogs can be trained to detect some types of cancers in humans.
5. A skunk can spray 7-15 feet and even further if it’s windy – so keep your dog far away!

Cat Facts of the Day! These are pretty purrrfect!

1. When your cat headbutts, sits near you or shows you their stomach, it’s their way of saying “I love you.”
2. Cats don’t like to drink water that’s too close to their food, because water near food could be contaminated. Encourage your cat to drink from their water bowl by separating from their food bowl.
3. Sensitivity to catnip is genetic, and only about 50% of cats experience its effects.
4. While dogs are the natural hosts, cats can get heartworms too. Protect your pet with monthly heartworm preventive
5. Spaying or neutering your cat can help them live longer. Spayed females live 39% longer and neutered males live 62% longer than cats who haven’t had the procedure.

Summer is here! Now is the perfect time to bond with your furry friend and try some new activities, whether indoor or outdoor. Just make sure if you are adventuring outside, the temperature is not too high for your pet, or you may be more comfortable at home.
Here are some activities for you and your pet to try out this summer!

*Outdoor Activities:
If the sun is shining and the heat is bearable, try these fun outdoor activities!
*Take a Camping Trip
Take to the woods for a camping trip! You can pitch a tent or camp in your car with your pet and explore the local wilderness. Most national camping resorts are pet friendly, as are national forests. Some state parks have different regulations for pets, so make sure to check out the individual rules before arriving.
*Enjoy Watery Fun
If your pet loves water, you can implement various activities to cool down on a warm day. Set up a kiddy pool, turn on the sprinklers, or grab a hose for some watery fun. On a hot day, you can take your dog canoeing, kayaking, dock jumping, or out for a paddle in your local body of water.
*Indoor Activities
Depending on the weather, outdoor activities may not always be an option. Not only will the high temps make activities unenjoyable, but they may be harming your pet. Hot concrete and other surfaces can easily burn a pup’s paws. So here are a few activities you and your pet can do indoors!
*Have a Spa Day
A day of pampering is fun for pets, too. Spend an afternoon giving your pet a spa treatment—start with a bath, ear cleaning, nail trimming, and then finish off with a massage and ear rub. Brush out your pet’s coat for a glossy finish. While you’re at it, pop your pet’s bedding and toys into the washing machine for a full transformation.

Regardless of what you decide, your pet will appreciate being included. Just remember to stay safe and have fun!

Fun fact of the day!
Cats are nearsighted, but see great in the dark!
This is all thanks to those sensitive whiskers! Compared to humans, cats are nearsighted because their eyes are so large and placed so forward on their face. In fact, they can’t focus on anything less than 1 foot in front of them. This is where the whiskers come into play, as they can swing the whiskers forward to feel in front of them.

However, they make up for this nearsightedness with an excellent ability to see in the dark. Cats have extra dark-specializing cells called rods and a “reflective mirror” called a tapetum in the back of the eye. These work together, so cats can see light at eight times dimmer illumination than you can.

CAUTION: HOT TOPIC BELOW!
As summer approaches, keep your pet cool as a cucumber with these smokin' tips!

Ways to prevent heatstroke:
Consider the possibility of heatstroke ANY TIME the temperature is above 80 degrees or humidity is high, and take these precautions to keep your pet cool:

*Never leave your pet unsupervised outside on hot days. While you are away, keep your pet indoors with air conditioning.

*While outside, ensure your pet has access to fresh water, shade, and shelter away from direct sunlight.

*Take your daily walk or jog in the morning, before temperatures reach dangerous levels.

*Never leave your pet alone in a parked car. Heat quickly builds to deadly levels in a closed car, even on sunny days that aren’t hot.

*On hot days, keep brachycephalic breeds, like this sweet frenchie, elderly and obese pets, and those with heart or lung disease inside your air-conditioned home except for short outdoor bathroom breaks.

With summer festivities kicking off, we want to remind you about the symptoms of heatstroke and prevention tips:

-Never leave your pet unattended in a car
-When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited
-Keep your pet hydrated
-Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment
-Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves
-If any signs of heat stroke appear, contact our team immediately.

Please help us spread awareness by tagging your pet parent friends in the comments and share this post!

Dogs have an olfactory sense that is 10,000 to 100,000 times more powerful than humans’. This incredible sense of smell allows them to detect certain diseases, locate missing persons, and even locate drugs or explosives! Because their sense of smell is so powerful, they may be sensitive to fragrances we use in our homes. Be sure to get pet safe fragrances to keep their sniffer, like Jasper's working well!! 🐶🐾

Did you know that less than 10% of the pets that are unchipped will return home each year?

A microchip is a secure, reliable, permanent identification for your pet and the process is simple and affordable. Microchipping your pet can help ensure that if your pet goes missing, they can be identified and find their way back to you.

If your pet is chipped, make sure their information is up to date. To help keep pets close to their loved ones, share this post and remind your friends to !
