This shy girl is Leah. It is amazing when you give her an interactive toy she just blossoms. She loves the laser light as well. Hopefully one day she will find her furever home.

If you are feeding a male cat, please do not wait to have him neutered. Every second he is out there is a HUGE risk. Unneutered male cats fight. I don't care how sweet you think he is. All of them fight - it's their nature. And it's the way the most severe feline diseases are spread. You can prevent this before it happens! And, you can prevent a lot of new kittens being born outside to suffer in the harsh environment.

Don't wait for him to show up injured!
Don't wait for the weather to get warmer.
Don't wait because "he can't have kittens".
Don't wait because "you'll do it later".
Don't wait to earn his trust more.
Don't wait for him to contract deadly diseases.

Don't wait.

This sweet baby was surrendered to a local vet with orders to euthanize. His owner could not afford the emergency surgery he needed. An awesome Good Samaritan rescued him and paid for his surgery. He is on 1.5 years old and is doing great but needs to be on a specialized urinary diet to prevent this from happening again. Now SpiderMan needs a furever home! He is in a short term foster situation. If you can open your heart or home to this precious boy please contact us to arrange a meeting. He is not housed at our sanctuary at the moment.

Wednesday loves to show off her hunting skills as well as her playful personality! Wednesday is one of the few kittens we have left over from last year that has not found a forever home. Wednesday is a unique beauty with unusual golden eyes!!! She isn’t the cuddliest cat s d is a bit shy with strangers but we feel she would blossom under the care of her “human” and a secure home to call her own.

We just can’t stop sharing Mojo because he is so handsome!!
Mojo was adopted from FUR as a kitten but sadly, After 8 years, he was returned to us as his person was moving and couldn’t take him. He was very confused and stressed at first which is understandable. His whole world he’d ever known turned upside down. It took a while but he has adjusted somewhat but would prefer a little more quiet place and less cats!!!! He would be good with one or two other pets. He is very sweet and sociable. Looking for a warm lap.

Sylvie didn’t get her Christmas wish - a home for the holidays. 😢Sylvie is the sweetest most gentle cat ever! We took her in as a very young, hungry, tired, scared and very pregnant kitty looking for a helping hand. She has since birthed, raised and weaned her babies and they have all been adopted but Sylvia remains overlooked. She is very tiny and gets bullied a lot by some of the other cats so she tries to keep a low profile but is the first to greet visitors when they come through the front door. Please can’t someone give sweet Sylvie a chance to be the apple of someone’s eye and to enjoy the spoiled life from here on out?.

Our Story

As guardians of displaced felines, our mission is to provide a safe haven for cats, thereby reducing the homeless population, the shelter euthanasia rates, and filling a gap in the rescue community as a last resort sanctuary.

Many of our rescued cats recover and are re-adopted to loving families. Some, however, will live out their days with us at the Sanctuary.

FUR is managed and maintained by an almost exclusively volunteer staff. To continue to provide this valuable service in Haywood County, we need your help. We need families willing to adopt or foster cats, volunteers, donors, and folks willing to share our posts and help get the word out about FUR. A second chance truly starts with YOU.
