Our Story
Dr. Birthright and his team provide 20 years veterinary experience in a beautiful hospital. Graduating from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1993, Dr. Birthright came to the mountains that felt like home to him after spending many summers as a child kayaking, hiking, camping and forging life long friendships at Camp Mondamin. He and his wife built the hospital in 2005 with the mission of creating a space that felt like home and providing compassionate care with high medical standards. We are proud to have been
members of the American Animal Hopsital Association (AAHA) since the year we opened. The AAHA standards address patient care and pain management, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, medical records, cleanliness, emergency services, dental care, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, and continuing education. To maintain accredited status, hospitals undergo comprehensive on-site evaluations every three years. Only 12-15% of veterinary hospitals in the United States and Canada are accredited by AAHA. Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited.
After years hearing requests from clients for boarding facilities we were looking for a way to serve our clients beyond just an overnight stay. The dog camp idea grew out of an inspiration from years at summer camp learning new things and the desire to provide a service to pet owners where they could feel good about their dogs getting stimulation and socialization. In 2012 we built the Dog Camp and created a separate entrance so that the high traffic from day camp, grooming and boarding didn’t interfere with the hospital patient needs.
As you continue to refer friends and family to us we continue to grow. We are thrilled to have Dr. Rachelle McKinnon and Dr. Toria McHarg working with our team. In 2020 we are growing our services in an effort to support the needs our pet family as well as the educational aspirations of our team. Stay tuned for exciting new services we will offer you and your pets!
