Ozzy is a 4yr old, 14.3hh, sooty buckskin Gypsy cross gelding with the kind of presence that grabs your attention from the start. If his good looks don’t get ya hooked, his personality and rideability definitely will. From the arena to the trails, this gelding has you covered and would be an exceptional prospect to show in all ranch versatility classes or under english tack.

Ozzy has been ridden through state parks, used on overnight camping trips, and used for basic ranch work making circles and gathering. He’s traveled through multiple trail courses and handled every obstacle with ease — water, bridges, logs, brush, you name it. He also handles new environments confidently, taking everything in stride. Ozzy goes through water easily and is steady around activity and commotion. We have shot fi****ms around him and he handled it extremely well. He also handles vehicle traffic and makes a gorgeous flag horse, carrying himself with confidence and style. In the arena, Ozzy is a fun and fancy ride. He has a light handle, bridles up well, is started on flying lead changes, and will absolutely drag his hind end when asked to stop. He’s been used as a turnback horse and will really cow up to one. He’s also been ridden English and took to it like a duck to water, showing just how versatile he wants to be. Ozzy is very fluid and smooth in all gaits, making him a comfortable and enjoyable horse to ride for long stretches.

His disposition is every bit as good as his ride. Ozzy has a super sweet personality — he loves his scratches, loves to give kisses, and truly enjoys being around people. He absolutely adores kids and is patient and kind with them. He’s great with pesky dogs and other farm animals/livestock, and he loads, unloads, and hauls like a pro. Ozzy is easy to get along with on the ground for all. He has always been a gentleman for grooming, stands quietly to be saddled, and takes a bit easily. Ozzy can go barefoot with no issues and has been barefoot with us, but he will have a full set of shoes on at the sale — simply our personal preference when going to sales.

𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐳 is a 5yr old AQHA gelding being consigned by his breeder/owner. This big, handsome bay roan will be going through our assessments soon, and we can’t wait to share more about him in the coming weeks!

Not all heroes walk on two legs. 🇺🇸

Sergeant Reckless was a small Mongolian mare with a big mission — carrying ammunition through enemy fire (over 9,000 lbs of it in one battle alone), assisting wounded Marines, and earning her stripes the hard way. She wasn’t just a mascot, she was a Marine.

Decorated with multiple medals, two Purple Hearts, and full military honors upon retirement, Reckless reminds us what loyalty and courage look like.

To every soldier, veteran, and four-legged hero who’s carried the weight of freedom, we salute you. Happy Veterans Day. 🇺🇸

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 ‘𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙨𝙖𝙡𝙚,’ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 ‘𝙄 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙠 𝙣𝙤𝙩.’

Today marks one year since the day that officially began the early retirement of HS Pocos Slim Shady — who, believe it or not, was supposed to be sold in December of 2024.

Instead of heading to a new home, Shady had a successful kissing spine surgery… only to later fracture a hind fetlock during rehab. And no, it wasn’t because we were pushing too hard — in true Shady fashion, he managed it all on his own while feeling extra good and trying to show off his athletic (and very coordinated) bucking moves. After months of rehab, vet visits, and treatments, we finally got him comfortable enough to enjoy life as a happy pasture ornament who’s sound to walk and trot on good days. From the start, Shady and our son shared a special bond, so we decided to make his stay with us indefinite — and gifted Stetson the horse he’d claimed from day one.

Now, HS Pocos Slim Shady spends his days living large, eating well, and supervising the herd as our resident mascot and full-time comedian.

He was meant to keep shining as a ranch and show horse, but instead he’s become the source of endless laughs, lessons, and love. Some horses are just meant to stay home — and Shady made sure we got the message loud and clear😆.

Have you heard? The coldest temps so far this season hit this weekend!

For some of you, it’s just another Texas temperature swing. For others, this might be your first time navigating a drastic drop in temperature with your horses — and that’s okay! Let’s break down what happens and how you can help your horses handle it.

In North Texas, temps are expected to swing nearly 50° between Saturday afternoon and early Monday morning, dipping below freezing level. With wind chill factored in, the Effective Ambient Temperature (the “feels like” temperature) could drop another 10° or more at times. The ambient temperature — or the actual air temperature — combined with factors like wind and humidity can have a major impact on how cold your horse really feels. Although we won't be turning into a winter wonderland anytime soon, that doesn't mean your horse won't be affected.

These sharp changes can increase your horse’s risk of colic — not only from the weather itself and how the horse's body responds to it, but also from how we adjust their care routines in response.

In short, the weather matters… but so do the choices we make because of it!

🔥 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬:
A horse’s 𝙇𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 (𝗟𝗖𝗧) — the point where they start burning extra energy to stay warm — varies by coat, condition, age, and the climate they’re accustomed to, as well as the ambient temperature and wind chill.
• Around 𝟭𝟴°𝗙 for a healthy horse with a thick, dry winter coat.
• Around 𝟱𝟵°𝗙 for thin-coated or wet horses.
• Young horses and foals have higher LCTs and need more help staying warm.
It can take up to 21 days for a horse to fully acclimate to colder temps, but when the mercury drops 40–50° in just a day or two, they don’t get that adjustment time — which is why your management makes all the difference.

🧣 ℚ𝕦𝕚𝕔𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕞𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕣𝕤 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕖 ℂ𝕠𝕝𝕕 𝕊𝕟𝕒𝕡 𝔸𝕙𝕖𝕒𝕕:
🐴 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒔:
Older, underweight, thin-coated, or clipped horses will feel the cold first. Consider their body condition, coat type, and shelter access when deciding if they need a blanket.
💧 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓:
Horses prefer water between 45°–65°F in cold weather. Check buckets and troughs often — frozen or icy water can quickly lead to dehydration, a major colic trigger.
🌾 𝑭𝒆𝒆𝒅:
Cold weather = more calories burned to stay warm. Offer extra forage to help maintain body temperature and keep the digestive system moving.

🩶 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞:
Cold snaps don’t have to spell trouble — they just call for a little extra attention. Make sure your horses have access to plenty of clean, unfrozen water, adequate forage, and shelter to help them stay hydrated, warm, and comfortable. Consider offering loose salt to naturally encourage water intake. Adding electrolytes or an electrolyte paste into their routine can also help keep hydration levels up during temperature swings. For horses showing early signs of colic or dehydration, products like Immediate Response paste can be helpful to have on hand. And if your veterinarian allows it, keeping Banamine available for emergencies is always a smart move — only give it orally if you’re not fully confident administering IV medications.

Winter can bring challenges when dealing with horses, but good horsemen know that preparation is half the battle. Stay observant, stay proactive, and give your herd an extra flake (or two) this weekend. 🤍🐴❄️

Good morning from a finally chilly Texas!

If you only follow us here on the business page, I (Sarah Grace Halverson) figured it was time for a quick update on what’s been going on lately!

✨ 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲:
Chester is currently listed privately for a short time, and we also have another nice gelding coming available later this month—stay tuned!

🍂 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗧𝘂𝗻𝗲-𝗨𝗽𝘀:
This is our busiest season for gentling youngsters, halter breaking, and giving those tried-and-true horses a winter refresh. We’ve got limited spots left for November and December, so give us a shout soon to get on the schedule!

💻 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹:
I’ve been running full speed with the media side of things for horse sales throughout the country with H Spur Media, which is why this page has been a little quiet. On top of the fall busyness, I had surgery on my right hand yesterday where they put a plate and 7 screws in so that’ll have me pumping the brakes for a couple weeks.

From ranch rodeos to versatility shows, Chester shines wherever he goes. He’s soft in the bridle, responsive to leg and seat, and will trot or lope pretty circles on a loose rein. Side passes, lead changes, sliding stops — he’s got it all. You can even drop the bridle and he’ll still stay with you every step.

He’s been used for gathering, sorting, branding, and doctoring in every kind of terrain, yet just as happy to head down the trail alone or with friends. Quiet in traffic, sure-footed, and patient enough to ground tie or stand while you get on.
