Looking for a natural, eco-friendly way to keep rodents and snakes under control? Our feral barn cats are ready to go to work! These independent felines are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and free to approved homes.

PUPDATE: Anyone remember this handsome fellow? Buckie was here for about a month before his wonderful family found him and decided to give him a chance, despite his shy disposition. Thank you so much for realizing the shelter is a scary place for animals and you can't always judge a book by the cover. Buckie is lucky to have you!!

"A little Pupdate on buckie!
Two months ago we were going to look for a cat and fell in love with Mr. Buckie after a short walk with him! When we first brought him home he was a little shy and reserved with us, but after some love he’s doing much better! Buckie absolutely loves getting snuggles on the couch and hogging up the bed. When he’s not sprawled out he has lots of fun playing at daycare and rough housing with his friends at the park. Our hearts couldn’t be more full and we’re so thankful for our sweet boy."

What is a transport? Spay Neuter Network’s Pet Transport service picks up pets at locations across North Texas and shuttles them to our clinics for spay or neuter surgery. Pets are returned the same day after recovery. Individual vaccinations, heart-worm testing, feline leukemia testing, and other services can be scheduled with your surgery or when you arrive for your appointment. Appointments can be scheduled online or by calling 972.472.3500. There is a transport fee of $5 per pet. Shelters and rescues are excluded from using the transport special.

💙 A Heartfelt Farewell to Our Director, Dustin Deel 💙

After 12 incredible years of dedication (18yrs total with our great city), leadership, and passion for animal welfare, our Director of Animal Services, Dustin Deel, is moving on to a new opportunity. While we are saddened to see him go, we are beyond grateful for everything he has done for WPCAS and our community.

Under Dustin’s leadership, our shelter has grown into a place of compassion, innovation, and excellence. His unwavering commitment to both the animals and the people of Weatherford has left a lasting impact, and his work has truly made a difference in countless lives.

Dustin will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the high standards, progressive programs, and dedicated team he leaves behind. We are committed to continuing his vision and ensuring WPCAS remains the shelter our community has come to know and trust.

Dr. Stacy McLeod, Animal Services Veterinarian, was recognized at the City Council meeting earlier this week for her recent appointment to the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners by Governor Greg Abbott. With this prestigious appointment, she will serve a six-year term helping to ensure that Texans are effectively and efficiently served by quality veterinary professionals through setting clear professional standards.

Additionally, she has also recently earned a Masters Degree in Shelter Medicine from the University of Florida. Congratulations!

PUPDATE: Thank you so much for giving Ellie a wonderful life. I'm sure you have heard this before but for some reason black dogs get overlooked constantly in animal shelters. I'm not sure why but she sure was lucky to find you!!!

" I wanted to share that sweet Dollie, now called Ellie, is doing wonderfully! In our short 2 weeks together Ellie has met our family vet, has “sit” down, and is working on perfecting “leave it”. She walks great on a leash with her brother, Kylo, and she is the goofiest girl who is comfortable sleeping anywhere in any position. I am so happy that I found her. 🙂"

PUPDATE: We received another wonderful update and couldn't wait to share! Thank you to Gingers' mom for this magnificent update and for giving her the love and the home she deserves!

"*PUPDATE: Ginger (4.5 y/o Shepherd mix, WPCAS TikTok star, and overall good girl) was a 3x resident at WPCAS through no fault of her own, and had heartworms by May 2022. You can see in the video, she's smart, sweet, and has so much love to give - among other incredible qualities! https://fb.watch/w_ICJpgzlR/

Since joining her fur-ever family on June 1 2022, she immediately began, and successfully recovered from her heartworm diagnosis (BIG thanks to Parker County Pets Alive for sponsoring her treatment!), and enjoys being a spoiled Momma's girl since Mom works from home.

Just today, Ginger had her vaccination boosters at Grote Vet Clinic and a heartworm test to make sure she'd kicked those worms for good - and we're pleased to say she got a clean bill of health! She still gets very anxious at the vet though. Mom thinks she associates that environment with being abandoned. She was reassured of her Good Girl status by visiting Ironworks Drive Thru on Main for a Pup Cup since she was so brave for the "Dog-tor".

Ginger is a wonderful companion who loves her family deeply. She learns quickly, is well-mannered and is just another successful adoption story we love to celebrate! Mom is thinking of adopting a fur-sibling for her soon, and will find just the right one for this special girl!"

Due to the incoming inclement weather, the shelter will be closed today 1/9/25 to ensure the safety of our volunteers, and visitors. Don’t worry—our dedicated staff will still be coming in to feed, water, and care for all our furry friends, no matter the weather!

Stay safe, stay warm, and enjoy some extra snuggles at home. We’ll be here wagging our tails to welcome you back as soon as it’s safe to do so!
