Meet Frank! This most handsome man is looking for his forever home! Frank is not happy in the hustle and bustle of the shelter and has been in a foster home. Frank's foster reports that he is sweet and snuggly but a power chewer and a ball lover. Frank loves to sleep in bed with his foster but has also adjusted to her house rules that he is not allowed on the couch. Frank has met two other dogs during walks and did well with both of them. He is best described as the perfect passenger because he is happy to be with people, even if it means sleeping under your desk while you work or riding in the car to all the places you have to go. Frank will be returning to the shelter and will be available to meet next week. If you are interested in Frank or would like more information about adoption please call the shelter at 530.623.1370

Hershey is still with our shelter and we don't know why. She has been in foster for the past week with two other dogs and a whole herd of cats. Her fosters report that she is settling in and things are going well. Hershey is learning their system for telling the parents that you need to go outside and has started to collect all the cat toys she finds😍 She has been all smiles and is learning a lot.
***Hershey is now spayed!***
Hershey came to our shelter when she was about ten weeks old back in September of 2023 and has had much less interest than her great personality warrants. She was a little on the shy side with people when she first got here, lacking in self confidence, but has come around to the idea that life isn't so bad. Brand new people still make her a little nervous but she warms up quickly to pets and attention. She seems to be submissive with other dogs and has gotten along great with all the other puppies and adult dogs we have introduced her to. She has been playing very well with everyone she is out in the yard with but still can't wait to have a home of her own. If you are interested in adopting Hershey please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

***Moana has gone to foster for the weekend so she isn't lonely since her sisters got adopted!***
Meet Princess Moana! This gal and her sisters came to us as strays and we were not able to find their people. We think they are shepherd mixes, about 10-12 weeks old. All three of these gals are cute as can be and we are learning more about their personalities all the time. They met the fearsome Dexter and were all alternately terrified and seeking play with the feline so with a good introduction we think they will do fine. If you are interested in adoption or would like more information about Moana, please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

Meet these two cuties! These two kittens are looking for their forever homes. They are both females and we believe them to be about 10 weeks of age. If you are interested in adoption or would like more information please call the shelter at 530.623.1370

Meet Mia! Does anyone remember Courtney Love? She was available for adoption earlier this year at our shelter and unfortunately, at no fault of her own, she is seeking a home again. Her name is now Mia but not much else has changed. It was suggested that possibly her tongue has gotten longer but that might be the summer heat 🤪 She is a goofy, fun loving and snuggly gal who would love a moderately active home. She gets along well with other dogs and cats after introduction. If you previously considered Courtney, then you have a rare second chance to come meet Mia! For more information about adoption please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

Meet Mellow! This big loveable gal is a female, pyrenes type, adult. Mellow came to us with her friend Marsh and they are both seeking their forever home. They were found in Hayfork near the airport, looking pretty rough, and were not claimed. Once we were able to catch them they melted into us. This dynamic duo are both large babies who love the pets and snuggles but also love to do zoomies and patrol the perimeter of their yard. They walk well on leashes but have quite a bit of power! Now that they have been groomed (thank you Trinity Dog Grooming) they are looking for their forever! If you are interested in adoption, or would like more information about Mellow, please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

Meet Comet! This cutie is a Domestic Short Hair with the most interesting color patterns. Is she a tortishell? Is she a calico? What will she look like when she grows? We certainly hope whoever adopts her shares how she looks in the future! Because she is ready to find her forever home! As you can see from her photos, she is a master snuggler and aspires to be a parrot....but only if you pet her while she is on your shoulder. If you are interested in adoption, or would like more information about Comet, please call the shelter at 530.623.1370

Marsh and Mellow asked us to make a post to say...

Thank you Trinity Dog Grooming!!!!!

These two came to us matted, dirty, and with large amounts of retained hair from their winter coats. Marsh especially looked more like a werewolf than a dog when he arrived. But after a visit to Trinity Dog Grooming they are both looking (and smelling) their best.

Marsh and Mellow are available for adoption starting 7/30.

***Courtesy post - This dog is not at the shelter***
This gal was found on Hwy 36 by a passerby. The found location falls in the greater Hayfork area between Wildwood and Forest Glen. If you are missing this dog or know where she belongs please call the shelter at 530.623.1370 to be connected with the finder.

Reminder that if you see our officer's signs please avoid the area or drive carefully to avoid collision with the animals they are trying to catch. Extra people in that area causes extra stress on the animals and makes the traps less effective.
Also, due to the heat, trapping may be taking place in a more hidden location out of the sun or may be during nightime hours so do not be alarmed if you do not see the traps.
*Be cautious of animals or people working in the area.*

07/18/2024

Today, 7/18/2024, is Montana's one year anniversary at our shelter. She has been waiting an entire year to find her fur-ever home and she's been doing so with so much patience. We don't like celebrating any dog's anniversary in our shelter because we want them to find their very own special place in the world but, we do celebrate the fact that we have gotten to spend so much time with this wonderful, playful and loving soul. Today we will give Montana all the love, treats and attention she should be getting in a proper home to show her that she shouldn't give up her search for a family. We will encourage her to soldier on and hold onto hope that someone out there will want to open their arms to invite her to join their family. Will that family be you?

Montana is a female husky-type dog. She is an adult and we suspect she may be spayed but spay status will need to be confirmed by a vet. She gets along great with the vast majority of other dogs and the only problem she has had so far was with dominant females. She has a little bit of jealousy issues when in the yard and when she sees another dog getting human attention she demands that she get attention first. She does NOT do well with cats!! We would >>highly

Um, hello. My name is Lucy. I am looking for my very own fur-ever home. My brothers and I had a difficult life before we were trapped by animal control and brought to the shelter so I'm maybe hoping for something better. Everything here is new and scary to me and I don't have the confidence I need to try facing my fears. My brother Charlie Brown says he's starting to like the humans but they still really intimidate me. I think I need someone who can help me brave this new world of yours, who can help guide me to learning that things aren't so scary. A quiet and calm environment really helps me but the shelter is a loud place with all the other dogs barking all the time so it's hard for me here. Maybe you can take me home and we can get to know each other better? I'm a female anatolian mix teenager (Aprox. 6 or so months old) so I still have some growing to do. I have never met any cats but I got along with my brothers. I'm not brave enough right now to meet any of the other dogs at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting me you can contact the animal shelter at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

07/06/2024

Meet Puppy! This senior lady is looking for a couch to snuggle on! Puppy came to us as the result of an Animal Control cruelty investigation. The case is ongoing but Puppy has been released for adoption. She deserves to live out her life in a home. Puppy is a lab mix, senior dog, reported to be about 13 years old but with quality life left for her. Her vet exam revealed overall good health with some weakness in her hind end (which is not unexpected given her age) and a case of conjunctivitis (now treated). She is not currently on any medications but may benefit from a joint supplement. She does appear to be mostly deaf but can still hear loud calls/whistles. Puppy previously lived with children and there were cats at the home also. Puppy has not met any of the other dogs at the shelter due to her being too relaxed and sophisticated for all of the young hoodlums here. If you are interested in giving Puppy a soft landing place after all she has been through please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

This brave boy is Stanley! He is a shorthaired neutered male cat who is at least 5+ years old. He came to us as a stray with a microchip (That is how we know his name and approximate age). Unfortunately, his now former owners did not return our messages or mail. He came to us in major stranger danger mode but has slowly started to come out of his shell and he loves the pets. Stanley was living outdoors before animal control had trapped him so he may do good as an indoor / outdoor cat. He was living outside with other cats so he may do well with other cats but he has not yet been introduced to the other cats in our cat room. We think it may take him some time to really open up to his new people but with the love and understanding he needs to take things slow he'll make for a great companion! If you are interested in giving Stanley a new home, please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 for shelter staff.

🎼🎼🎼Broken record time!🎼🎼🎼

Our shelter is out of room again. Every kennel is full and we have gotten very creative with our housing arrangements. Which is why we are asking that if you have been considering adoption, but waiting for the right time, please consider if this may be that time for you. We have a ton of great dogs, young and adult, here at our facility who would love to meet you and make you fall in love.

We have a few appointments available Monday if there is someone you are interested in! Please call, email or Facebook message us!

When we get this full and move dogs around, together, and into places not designed to hold dogs, we are only able to maintain it for a few days. Long term these housing arrangements are not able to be maintained due to animal and staff safety concerns. If we are not able to create kennel space through adoptions and/or rescue pull we will have to make some very tough decisions. So please share our animals, direct your friends who are looking for a companion to our facebook or petfinder, and point any rescues with availability in our direction!

This camera shy gal is Frosted Bran! She has finished raising her kittens and is ready for the single life. Bran is a very sweet girl and loves to have all the pets. We are learning more about her all the time and hope to have updates and better pictures when she settles in. If you are interested in adoption or would like more information please call the shelter at 530.623.1370

***Fabio has been neutered, he is still available for adoption.

Meet Fabio! This handsome man is an adult DSH, tabby and white in color. Fabio is solid, a real thick boy, who was not a big fan of the clicking of the camera. He came to us from a rural property where he had moved himself in. It was reported that he had been fighting with some of the other cats at the property. Because of this Fabio would most likely do best in a home as an only cat or at a property with a low cat density to give everyone their own room to roam. Fabio is slightly reserved but loves, loves, loves pets and attention. He has not yet been altered but we suspect that neutering him will help with his relationships with other cats. If you are interested in adoption or would like more information about Fabio, please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

We would like to introduce you to this goofy goober, Chonk! Chonk is an adult male pitbull type dog who is looking for his fur-ever home. When he meets new people he is a little warry but once he gets to know you he opens up and wants to give you all the love! This boy is as silly as can be in the yard, doing all the zoomies all around and playing with all the toys. He does good fence to fence with other dogs but we have not had the chance to introduce him to a play buddy yet. He did well with his cat testing and seems like he would be okay with a proper introduction to them. If you are interested in adopting Chonk, please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

Meet Izzy! This sweet gal was unable to find her previous owner and is now available for adoption. She is an adult female mixed breed dog. What specific mix, you ask? Your guess is as good as ours!

We have already introduced her to both Malekai and Chilli and they got along great. It seems she can change her yard play style depending on the dog she's with as she's much calmer with our older and more chill dog, Malekai and she romps around and plays zoomies with Chilli. We don't know how she is around adult female dogs yet but she decided to break out of her play yard one day and into the yard with our teenage boy puppies to introduce herself. They all got along great and had a blast playing with each other. We have introduced her to our shelter cat Dexter and she seems quite interested but in a friendly way. We feel she may do okay with cats with a proper introduction but she still might chase them if they ran.

If you are interested in adopting Izzy, please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

Meet Firecracker! This little girl is a wild one! She is a female, teenager, German Sheperd type (but smaller). Firecracker got her name when she came to us very afraid but still with an attitude! She has been with us at the shelter for a bit now, has made great progress and is ready to find her forever home! She is very food motivated and has been easy to train thus far. Unfortunately, she has some resource guarding behaviors surrounding food and will need someone to work with her on that issue. She met our shelter cat, Dexter, and was appropriately cautious about him. Firecracker has also been good with the other puppies we have introduced her to. If you are interested in adoption or would like more information about firecracker, please call the shelter at 530.623.1370.

***Update: Lake is now neutered! He is still available for adoption.

In our facility, puppies growing up here has become a regular thing that has been happening for quite some time now. Our staff can't understand why these adorable, fun loving puppies have not found their fur-ever home yet.

Lake came to us back in January of 2024 when he was about nine to ten weeks old with his brother and his mother. Lake's brother had been adopted some time ago but he and his mom are still here and available for adoption. He has grown into a handsome young man who loves to have fun with the other young dogs that we have at our shelter. He has been introduced to a few adult dogs as well and he has gotten along great with everyone. As far as humans go, he is a bit timid with strangers but when it is one on one between him and someone, he starts to warm up. He prefers a calmer environment because when the humans are doing a lot around him he feels overwhelmed and isn't sure what to do about it even when none of it involves him. If you think you would be a good fit for Lake and could help him build up his confidence, please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 for shelter staff.

****Canyon has tested negative for heartworms. He is still available for adoption.

Meet Canyon! This sweet boy is a medium/large, two and a half year old Aussie mix. He is a beautiful golden brown color with black and white. This energetic young man came to us after his owner passed away and he is looking for his new forever. Canyon is current on all his vaccinations and has been a happy healthy boy while at our shelter. This kid is a joy to have out in the yards and has a goofy time. He came to us with another male dog who is much smaller than he is but the two got along well. His former home did not have cats but at the shelter we tried an introduction with a cat and he seemed very curious and wanting to play so we think he may do okay with cats with a proper introduction to a cat who doesn't value their personal space. If you are interested in Canyon, please give us a call at 530.623.1370 option 1 to speak to shelter staff.

*****Courtesy Post*****

This is Reilly, he was found as a stray and some nice people held onto him until his owners could be located. Since no one came forward claiming Reilly he is looking for a family that will love and care for him as much as his foster family.

Reilly is a roughly 1 1/2-year-old neutered male Queensland mix who is up to date on all his shots. Reilly is very intelligent, loyal, and full of energy. He is housetrained and loves to play especially fetch. Since Reilly has so much energy he would probably do best in a home without small children or cats. Reilly is very loyal to his person would make a great doggy partner for an active household. It is not known how he is with other dogs so a meet and greet would be best if you have other dogs. Reilly will have his bed, toys, and a bag of food to help get him started in his new home. If you are interested in possibly adopting Reilly, you can contact the shelter at 530-623-1370 and we can put you in contact with his foster family.
