We checked out for a week. We filled our souls with new places. We witnessed Lily Rose being released back to her ocean home. We met inspiring people who provided us with fresh seafood and an incredibly inspiring Cuban culture. We were warm and present in each other's company. Thank you, , for being so welcoming.

Bold Jumping Spiders and Orb Weavers are always welcome in our garden. Please don't kill them if you find them indoors... simply put them in a container and set that container outside so they can crawl out.

Did ya'll know these punks turn into sphinx moths? Also known as hummingbird moth?

I said I'd dole out some hard cash for each worm found. Our child is now emotionally attached to this gigantic one, so we'll be letting him go dormant in a homie bucket. Guess my tradition of having a hornworm bird buffet is out the window πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

One of my favorite things about checking hives is looking at pollen frames. If you're curious, you can also learn a lot about where your bees are foraging. If you buy our honey, we filter it through a wide screen. So if there's pollen cells in a honey frame that we harvest, you'll get all this in your jar πŸ’›

Let's all take a moment to laugh at my trailer park hive ... πŸ˜‚πŸπŸ’• Our largest hive going into winter... thought I'd use up all my insulation scraps on her and play a game of tetris πŸ’… Judge me, but it works.

While it doesn't look good, this insulation will help them maintain their temperature when it gets to be really cold outside. Honeybees gather into a basketball shaped cluster to hibernate in the winter. At the center of the cluster is where the queen will be; it will also be about 90 degrees. On the outside of the cluster, it'll be about 50 degrees. In extreme cold, one layer of bees will die off every few days, leaving a smaller cluster. To maintain the temperature, the extra fat worker bees will vibrate their bodies to create heat.
