Congratulations to our newest Guardian Home for Omen “CH IntCh Clarisma’s Tell to the Future PT”

She now lives with a friend of ours and also a Clarisma K9’s owner of our recent Stella x Shamrock litter, Bolter. Omen and Bolter are already BFFs. When her owner came to pickup Bolter a few months ago, it was love at first sight between these two. I am so happy we were able to unite these two as a perfect match and not only did she get to go home with her today, her guardian home owner showed her for us in the breed ring walking away with a select ribbon and 1 pt on the first time they were paired together. Congratulations Katelyn and family.

Happy 3rd Birthday to our Ginger x Russ “Halloween Themed Litter”

When you get your 8 week old puppies, please keep these images in mind. (More X-rays are in the comments!) Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don’t restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don’t give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

When you’re letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they’re still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

The babies learning their leash manners. Walked past garbage cans with lids banging in the wind, walked up to main road and did some training next to cars, trucks and dump trucks passing and walked by homes with dogs in the yard. They did great!

Having more knowledge on the pharmaceuticals that get pushed on our pets is the first part of advocating for our beloved pets and family members. There’s still plenty of good vets out there of which I personally use but it’s ok to not agree on certain things. Voicing your concerns with your vet and having a vet who works with your concerns is key.

This week’s podcast is a fan request about the concerns one breeder has about the “corporate takeover” of veterinary medicine and how that is affecting her puppy owners: “What information and resources do you use to help your puppy buyers, especially new/first time dog owners, screen and sel...

Parvo is a virus attacks white blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract of dogs, and in puppies, the virus also can damage the heart muscle. It is highly contagious and can be transmitted in a number of ways, including contact with an infected dog or its f***s. It can also be transmitted through indirect contact, such as a shared food bowl, kennel, or through the hands of someone who has handled an infected dog. It can also be spread through environmental contact, such as in grass or on shoes, clothing, or equipment.

For all my clients feeding Adirondack it appears they are discontinuing the food and owned by the same company that produces Blackwood. The formulas are very similar to Adirondack.

There’s 2 options switching from Adirondack Puppy and Performance:

1. Blackwood Puppy and performance is very close to the same formula as before.
2. Blackwood Puppy food is a little less protein and fat ratios and formulated just for the growing pups. It’s similar to Adirondack and should transition easily.

Other food recommendations we have for our adult and puppy families are:
1. Acana
2. Farmina
3. Open Farm
4. Fromm
5. Blackwood (they have all life stages, adult and puppy formulas)

Many foods have been having recent production problems and quality control issues without the companies reporting them. If you notice your dog/pup is suddenly having issues on a certain food and that was the only change for them, I highly suggest switching foods immediately. Some of the foods that have been causing issues reported by consumers not the companies themselves include: PPP, Black Gold Explorer, Science Diet, Purina products, Acana had some reports, Diamond Products, Taste of the Wild and several others.

Our dogs are currently eating:
Open Farm, Farmina and transitioning my pups to Blackwood (Adirondack equivalent).
