Your Furry Friend Deserves A Safe New Year 🎉🐾

From loud noises to large gatherings, it is no secret that New Year’s can be stressful for our pets.

Here are some tips to keep your furry companion calm and collected:

🎆 Create A Safe Space: Accommodate your pet with a quiet, calm space away from noise. To minimize sounds, consider a white noise machine or play soothing music.

🦴 Keep Them Active Throughout The Day: We may plan to stay up until midnight, but our pets will benefit from sleeping through the festivities. Try to tire them out early in the day by playing with a toy or going on a walk.

🍫 Watch That Food: Alcohol, chocolate, xylitol, and caffeinated drinks can be harmful to pets. Ensure these are out of your pet’s reach!

Questions? Call us at (781) 332-5506 to request an appointment. We’re here for you and your pet!

✨ Your Holiday Pet Safety Reminder ✨

Let’s keep our furry friends merry and safe with these tips:

🎄 Be Mindful Of Holiday Plants: Christmas trees, mistletoe, lilies, and holly can make your pets sick if eaten. Try your best to keep these out of paws reach!

🎁 Watch That Wrapping: Wrapping paper, ribbons, and bows can be tempting chew items for our pets. It is best to throw away these wrappings sooner rather than later.

💡 Monitor That Glow: Never leave lit candles unattended around your furry friend. These can accidentally be knocked over by your pet and cause a fire.

Pro Tip: This is often overlooked, but keep an eye on your decorative lights. These can pose a serious electrocution hazard for pets.

Call us at (781) 332-5506 to request an appointment this holiday season! ⭐

Your Pet and Thanksgiving Stress: Do This, Not That!

Just like us, our pets can experience feelings of stress. This can be caused by altered schedules, unfamiliar faces, and loud noises that may come with your Thanksgiving plans.

Keep your pet calm and collected with our Thanksgiving safety tips:

👍 DO THIS: Secure all entrances of your home. With visitors coming and going, there can be opportunities for your furry friend to escape.

❌ NOT THAT: Feed your pet food from your feast. Food that is festive for people is no picnic for pets! Pets who get into Thanksgiving foods like turkey, gravy, pie, and mashed potatoes can end up very sick in the emergency room afterwards.

Quick Tip: Secure trash to ensure your furry friend will not get into those Thanksgiving scraps.

👍 DO THIS: Travel safely with your pet. You should bring food, medications, and health certificates in case of an emergency.

Concerned about your pet’s stress levels this Thanksgiving? We can help!

Here are some ways to keep your furry friend safe this fall:

✔️ Keep Up With Flea and Tick Preventatives: Pesky parasites are still prevalent during the cooler months. Ensure your pet is up-to-date on flea and tick preventatives.

✔️ Shop For Pet Outerwear: Your pet may need an additional layer when outdoors. Consider pet-friendly sweaters and boots for your furry friend!

Your Pet and Halloween Safety: Do This, Not That! 🎃

Keep your furry friend safe this Halloween with these quick tips:

👍 DO THIS: Store Halloween candy in a secure spot where your pet cannot reach. Most Halloween candy contains xylitol and chocolate, which is hazardous to pets.

❌ NOT THAT: Hang decorations that can pose threats to our furry friends. Be cautious of lit candles, rubber eyeballs, fake cobwebs, and glow sticks.

👍 DO THIS: Create a safe space for your pet on trick-or-treat night to minimize stress. We recommend a quiet room stocked with their favorite toys and treats.

Pet Wellness and Aging 🐾

Just like us, pets get older and may need extra care and attention.

It is important to prioritize their health and happiness as our furry friends grow older. Here are some ways to care for your senior pet:

📅 Consistent Veterinary Visits: Your senior pet should have check-ups every six months to catch age-related issues early.

🦟 Monitor Preventative Measures: As your senior pet enters their golden years, their immune system becomes weaker. This increases the health risks associated with ticks, fleas, and heartworms. You should ensure your furry friend is up-to-date on their year-round preventatives and vaccinations!

🦴 Keep Them Active: Your senior pet may not be able to play or walk as long as they used to, but it is crucial to keep them active. Consider shorter walks or playtime sessions with toys.

We’d love to meet your senior pet. 📞 Call us to request an appointment!

Fact Vs Fiction: Microchips and Your Pet 🐕🐈

❌ Fiction: Microchips do not help reunite lost pets with their owners.

✔️ Fact: Microchips provide your pet with a permanent ID that stays with them for life. If your pet goes missing, you are far more likely to find them if they are microchipped!

Pro Tip: It is crucial that your contact information is up-to-date on your pet’s microchip, especially if you have a new address or phone number.

Blood Test Breakdown! 🐕🐈

Blood tests help us understand our pet’s overall health and risk for diseases.

We recommend blood tests annually, but this number may change depending on your pet’s health. Let’s take a look at what these blood tests assess in your pet:

- Red Blood Cells: Your pet’s red blood cell count can be used to rule out anemia and dehydration.

- White Blood Cells: These are used to monitor any potential infections or inflammation in your pet.

- Platelets: If these numbers are too low, they can help us make life-saving diagnoses for your pet.

Not sure when your pet is due for their blood test? 📞 Call us at 781-332-5506 to book an appointment!

Today is World Rabies Day! Awareness is key, especially when it comes to the safety of you and your pet. 🐈🐕

Here are some ways you can help control rabies in your community:

❌ Do not approach outside wildlife. When walking your pet, keep them on a leash to ensure they do not come in direct contact with other animals.

❌ Do not leave garbage or food outside. This could attract animals like racoons and skunks who can carry rabies.

✔️ If you see an animal you suspect has rabies, call local animal control.

Let's all do our part to help control rabies in our community!

It’s The First Day of Fall! 🍂

Keep your pet safe this season from these fall foods:

🚫 Turkey Bones: Cooked bones can splinter, which can harm your pet’s throat or digestive tract.

🚫 Nuts: Almonds, pecans, and walnuts are rich in oil and fats. These can potentially lead to pancreatitis in your pet, so it’s best to avoid them all together.

🚫 Pumpkin Pie: The excessive amount of sugar and fat in pumpkin pie can leave your pet with an upset stomach.

Tip: As a safe alternative, try dog and cat-friendly treats with fall flavors! 🦴

Fact Vs Fiction: Indoor Cats and Vaccines

❌ FICTION: Vaccines are unnecessary because my indoor cat does not go outside.

✔️ FACT: Consistent vaccine routines are necessary for all cats, especially indoor cats.

While cats may not venture outside as much as dogs, they can still be exposed to outdoor diseases through other pets and objects like shoes and clothes.

It’s National Healthy Cat Month! 🐈

As a dedicated cat parent, you should be aware of the signs of a healthy cat:

- Bright Eyes: Healthy cats will have clear and bright eyes. If you notice discharge or a cloudy look in your furry friend’s eyes, this may be an early sign of infection.

- Smooth Coat: Your cat’s coat should have a smooth feel and glossy look. If your cat’s coat looks more spikey than normal, it can be a sign of decreased self-grooming, which might be due to a health condition.

- Playfulness: Cats are generally playful animals. If your feline has sudden disinterest in playing, this may be a sign of illness.

Your feline friend deserves to be happy and healthy. Call us at 781-332-5506 to request an appointment! 🐾

Your Pet and Back-To-School Blues 🐕🐈

Back-To-School Season is certainly an exciting time for parents and kids alike, but your furry friend may not be as enthusiastic. Your pet may experience feelings of loneliness or anxiety as they adjust to their new weekday routine.

Here are some ways you can prepare your pet for these back-to-school blues:

📅 Plan In Advance: To prepare your pet for this change, gradually ease them into this new routine. Consider leaving your home for short periods of time to acclimate your pet to being home alone.

👋 Make Departures Easier With Toys: Consider leaving a puzzle toy behind for your pet. This will keep them occupied while you’re away!

🦴 Make Goodbyes Positive: Give your furry friend their favorite treat before leaving. This can create a positive association with your departure.
