⁣This photo was taken during my styled shoot at The Equine Photography Retreat of the gorgeous Cory Mclaughlin and her mare Pants. 👖 ⁣
⁣
⁣I love how the soft focus ferns frame such a soft moment between these two. How you shoot a moment and what moment you’re shooting should mimic each other. And if there’s foliage I can use around the edges of my frame, you bet I’m gonna ask the rider to snuggle in close to their horse while I hide inside some leaves! ⁣🌴

Ideally you don’t want your foliage to be touching the edges of your lens but rather just to the side and in front of it with your focus point being your subject placed a significant distance from your framing elements. Don’t over do it! You still want the focus of the image to be your horse and rider and not a ton of blurry edges! But a few soft leaves framing your subject creates a natural frame to draw your eye into the rider. 😉👍🏻

Time to introduce our two competitive horses here at Headwaters! 1. Pants (Espri) is an 11 year old Dutch warmblood by Singapore. She has been part of our team for about a year and a half now taking her rider through the Low Amateurs this season! 2. Rio (Elmo) is also an 11 year old Dutch Warmblood by Larino. He was recently added to the team back in October and we are so excited with the growing partnership between horse and rider! We also had these beautiful headshots taken by the talented can you believe how incredible they look?!? @ Wellington, Florida
