Milan Puppies
‼️We have another URGENT REQUEST‼️
This morning, a tote was left at our front door. Inside were 6 puppies! We discovered that a citizen on a dirt road near Milan found them in a ditch on their way to work. Not knowing what to do, left them outside our door, then called to make sure we saw them. So we are positive they were dumped! They are very skinny, appear to be around 5-6 weeks old, and 4 of them have tested positive for parvo!
What that means once they test positive is that we cannot transfer them to another shelter or foster them to anyone. They are stuck in our isolation kennel and only one staff member is allowed to treat them. We have started the medication to hopefully prevent it from being severe. On top of that, they are currently on a slow-feed diet due to being emaciated. Right now, they are not showing symptoms, so we will hope that none do. That now burdens our already stretched-thin staff to care for these puppies. We have other dogs needing isolation that now cannot be in there. We have had to shift dogs around to make room for these. We had another shelter interested in them since we didn’t have room, but with parvo, we are not allowed to transfer them. We are not sure how long they were outside, but you can see how thirsty they were when they came in!
PARVO IS EASILY PREVENTABLE!!!! The DHPP shot for dogs is the easiest and most efficient way to prevent this. We often have free DHPP available from grants and partnerships. If you cannot afford it for your dog(s), please contact us and we will give you options based on what we have available at the time! We will try to help you!
We would love to have information about these puppies and we want to help the situation they came from. If you have the mother dog, it most likely has been exposed to parvo and is not up to date on shots. We are offering to fix the mom dog and get her up to date on shots for FREE!! Most of the time there are extreme circumstances why this happens and we want
UPDATE: ADOPTED! 🥰
COURTESY POUND POST: ⚠️Running out of time!⚠️ This pet was relinquished from a bad situation. We know that she is an adult, not fixed. She appears to be good with other dogs, we do not know about cats and cannot test her. She is very laid-back and SUPER SWEET! She has some hair loss due to a previous lack of flea treatment, but she is doing much better and the hair is growing back. We are full at our facility and cannot take her without your help in fostering! Call the Wellington Pound if can adopt or foster 620-326-3021.
❗️Deadline: 10/29/24❗️
The pound cannot house dogs indefinitely and has limited space. Animals not claimed or adopted are in danger of being euthanized. Please help us get the word out by sharing about him.
👉Any animal adopted from the Wellington Pound/Wellington Animal Clinic that is not fixed qualifies for our Spay/Neuter Program (no proof of income required). This provides a reduced rate to fix your pet and stop the overpopulation of animals in our community! Fixing your pet also helps to avoid possible medical issues in the future. If you recently adopted from Wellington Animal Clinic, you can fill out the spay/neuter form to get your pet fixed!

🥰We couldn't help so many kittens without our wonderful fosters! Check out sweet little Buzzer getting cuddles from his foster brother Pepe (who is a former shelter kitty)! Pepe's mom said he's been a wonderful foster brother to Buzzer and his siblings. He's taught them many things and helped care for them when they were without their real mom. Of course, their foster mom is taking very good care of them until they are ready for adoption!
Buzzer and his siblings (Chime, Bell, and Ringer) are ready for adoption! You can fill out the adoption application to be the first to adopt! They are currently at their foster home, so fill out the application to schedule a time to meet them.

🐕National Puppy Mill Awareness Day!
Shelters receive stray and surrendered animals. They update their vaccines and obtain necessary veterinary care for each animal. Each animal is spayed/neutered so that it is not contributing to the overpopulation of pets. They also screen prospective adoptive families. Similar to breeders, they maintain their facilities. However, they retain few paid staff and rely on donations and volunteers for the bulk of their needs.
Depending on the shelter's mandate, animals live there until they are adopted. We are a no-kill shelter so the pets stay at our shelter until they are adopted. Other shelters allow a certain number of days for the animal to be adopted. Once the selected number of days pass, the shelter usually must destroy the dog. Many of the dogs in shelters come from animals bred in puppy mills for pet stores or sold online.
It's essential to know the difference and select your new fur baby responsibly. Even though you may think you're saving the animal, purchasing a dog from a puppy mill only keeps the business thriving.

🐶🦴The dogs enjoyed some enrichment with special treats this week! We want to know what you think? Which one is cuter, dogs catching treats or whipped cream in slow-motion?!
We hope you enjoy some adorable and funny faces!
👉P.S. No animals were harmed by whipped cream or treats in the making of this video. All of the dogs had fun and enjoyed several treats....even if they were afraid of them at first.

Little Groot is growing more confident every day! He loves toys, going outside, and snuggling with his people. He has bonded with his foster mom and has absolutely blossomed into a very sweet and silly guy! He is slowly learning to be more comfortable with other people. He is still shy but doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body! As you can see, he is a goofy and sweet boy and he's ready for adoption! He is potty trained and does great with other dogs.
Groot was saved from a kill shelter after coming in from a hoarding situation. He has gotten the time he needed to decompress and learn to trust people. He will make a wonderful addition to your home! He is most likely a Chihuahua and Dachshund mix and weighs 13 pounds. He is at a foster, so you will need to make an appointment to meet him.
We are only open by appointment this week. If you are interested in adopting please fill out the online application before you come in to speed up the adoption process. That way you can be pre-approved and possibly take your pet home the same day! We go in order of application received, so the sooner you get in your application, the better! If you decide not to adopt, then we will keep your app on file for a short period and you can keep watching for the pet that best meets your needs.

😍Rufus update!😍
It's been several weeks of healing for Rufus after his cleft palate surgery. Sadly, the lip didn't hold together, so he still has the gap, but the palette was also put back together and it is doing well. So it was still beneficial, but he will continue to have the gap. We think it makes him even more adorable!
He still has a few restrictions for another week or two, then he will be fully released from medical care. He is available for adoption or foster! He hasn't got to interact with other dogs due to being on medical care, so we aren't sure how well he does with dogs or cats. A home with him as the only pet would be ideal right now! He is super friendly and as you can see playful! He is a wonderful cuddler too and will want to be with you anytime you are relaxing.
We are still working on our adoption and foster numbers for June to help us meet our goal of being eligible for a grant, so stop in today before 2pm!

⚠️We need your help! To beat our adoption number from last June, we need 5 more adoptions before July 1st! This is your last week to help us win grant money that will benefit our shelter and enable us to help more pets in Sumner County! This is part of the Bring Love Home Event with Best Friends Animal Society.
If you are interested in adopting, please stop in this week! And if you are in the market for a kitten, we have a whole colony full of them! Stop in this week to meet them. We are open Wednesday through Friday 3-7pm and Saturday 10am-2pm.
We could also use a few more fosters. We must beat last year's number of fosters as well as adopters!
Thank you for your support! Stop in to meet a new best friend!

🏃♂️🐕Run for the Paws 2024 was a success! We had a great turnout and we wanted to thank everyone for participating! The Wellington Health and Rehab water station was a fun twist with water cannons! I think the residents had a blast cooling off runners. We also had several dogs participating, including one of our shelter dogs, and several previous shelter dogs! 🥰
Race results are in! We have more photos on our website and race results ready to download. On the Run Page, scroll to the bottom and you will see race results and photos.
