PET OWNERS --- We are finding more instances of emergency surgeries because of pyometra (uterine infection ) due to owners not spaying their kitten/puppy/cat/dog. Pyometra can often cause the death of the pet if immediate diagnosis and treatment is not given. You are risking your pet's life, along with your finances. An emergency spay can cost thousands of dollars.
Upon bringing a pet into your home, owners need to IMMEDIATELY set up their spay (and neuter) appointment. Owners need to understand that you no longer wait until the female goes through their first heat cycle before you spay. Time to do is 4-5 months, BEFORE first heat. If you have an adult pet it is imperative to get it done as soon as possible. No matter what the age, it needs to be discussed with your vet or clinic.
For a male it is also urgent to be neutered. Males are at risk of testicular cancer and reduces the risk of prostate issues. It lowers aggression, fighting and roaming. Along with UNNECESSARY LITTERS.
AND, LET'S NOT FORGET THE STRAYS YOU ARE FEEDING!
Pyometra is the life-threatening infection of the uterus that generally occurs in middle-aged to older female dogs in the 6 weeks following heat. A uterus with pyometra swells dramatically and is filled with pus, bacteria, dying tissue, and toxins. Without treatment, the pet is expected to die.
