New colors coming July 1st

Thank you for everyone's patience🙏 as we've experienced some delays launching the new skin colors of Lavender🪻 and Plum🍷! We had to do some color tweaks before we were 100% set on the new color, but we are hopeful we've nailed it and you all love the results! Ordering should be live on the website by July 1st...but we will announce when it's officially official 😁💯

I seen a video of this procedure being performed and I had forgotten about it. As things warm up, people will be out more with their dogs playing fetch and this could be a likely scenario for any of us. Educate yourselves to this procedure and ensure you are using balls that are larger and not easy for your dogs to swallow.

This kind of thing happens more often than people realize which is why I really take dogs seriously. They are animals and we don't really know what they are thinking so it's always best to play it safe. True story, my Military Working Dog (MWD) was assigned to another handler when I changed duty stations. This handler deployed to Afghanistan with my old MWD. While on duty, stray dogs tried to attack the handler's MWD and he accidentally shot his MWD while trying to defend from the stray dog attack.

A very satisfying moment for this client and his dog. He couldn't get him in his vehicle before but now, they can go anywhere. They've been to the Vet and to their local park. This is going to make a huge difference for the health of the dog and even for the owner as they can now do more things which is physically and mentally healthy. Things we take for granted, others struggle with and it's so satisfying to just help.

Here is a sample letter that has been sent out to a company the provides animal feed to animals other than pet animals (as far as we know). Here is what I think, the standards for production of pet foods is LOW just as it is for US. When I say low I mean if you were to find out how a lot of dog food is made, you wouldn't use it. GO RAW, make your own, that's love.

Happy New Year everyone!! I know my transition leading up to the New Year was rough as I battled the crap going around, what a butt-kicker but I'm back stronger than ever. Let's make 2024 more awesome than 2023 by dedicating to working with our dogs more consistently and teach them something new. Being a good citizen not only applies to us but to our dogs as well. This should be the minimum standard all dogs should be held to and worked on until accomplished. Contact me if you're interested in making this happen.

Further to our email last Friday — letting you know that Blue Ridge Beef had issued a voluntary recall of its Blue Ridge Beef Puppy Mix, due to Salmonella and Listeria Monocytogenes contamination — we have now added the recall to the Dog Food Advisor site.



You can see it here.


The food affected is Puppy Mix - 2lbs UPC - 8 54298 00169 6. All lot numbers/use by dates between N24 1124 to N24 1224.



The food is not reviewed on DFA so we have not needed to amend our Best Dog Food pages.

Every now and again I feel inspired to impart dog training / behavior information on here and today is one of those days. I want to talk about EMOTIONAL/SOCIALIZATION STRESS and FALLOUT from it.

I was reading an article today from Jane Lindquist titled Socialization and Emotional Fallout (article link below). The title really caught my eye as traditionally we only talk about Fallout as a result of when some form of punishment is administered. Fallout can happen even through positive experiences as well.

Positive experiences can be huge stressors for dogs and I don't think people recognize the fallout that can happen from them. I'm not saying to avoid these experiences but understand that after these stressful experiences, puppies and older dogs can experience such behaviors as restlessness, barky, or hyper active to name a few. This is mainly due to the stress of the experiences they had and their way of processing the new information the experiences have given them.

The article suggests 5 things to do after your puppy/dog experiences this kind of stress and how to manage/reduce the fallout from them:
1. Don't Freak Out........your dog is processing the information from the experience it has had and it takes time.
2. Let them take a good sleep after the experience.
3. When they wake up, give it/them distracting things to do that involve sniffing or chewing (snuffle mat, nosework, kibble trails, meaty bones, etc.)
4. Give them up to 24hrs between big emotional experiences (puppies under 12-14 weeks need the most time). This just allows the puppy/dog time to get back to "normal" and avoids "stacking stressors"
5. Be prepared. Understand when exposing your puppy/dog to an emotional event, there will probably be some emotional fallout so be prepared to do the above BEFORE your puppy/dog displays the fallout behaviors.

I was just as shocked and many of you will be after having been informed that many of the pet foods offered, claiming to be healthy this and that is actually CRAP!!! But we are paying lots of money for this, how can these companies ethically do this!? Such an outrage but then I'm reminded, they do it to us. Look at the FDA, when and how it was established, why was it established, and how it operates today. You will be outraged as well.

I'm just going to come out and say it, Vet costs are exponentially higher than the associated fees that it costs them to run the business, IN MOST CASES. Of course, like the video explains, there is a "GOLD STANDARD" of care and of course, you're going to pay a lot of money so if you can afford it, so be it. As long as Vets are explaining your options and costs associated with those options, then it comes down to what a person can afford but I just think that Vets could do better in bringing those costs down some.
