This is just a rant, but…

Can we please stop breeding rabbits without a purpose? I get it—baby bunnies are adorable—but the world is already overflowing with poor-quality rabbits.

I breed with a goal in mind: to improve the breeds I love by carefully selecting rabbits with the best traits. Any rabbit that doesn’t meet the standard is hard culled. I don’t soft cull rabbitsts with health issues or traits that don’t align with the breed standard, and I especially don’t sell pets.

Why hard cull? Because it prevents my rabbits from ending up in irresponsible breeding programs or in situations where they might be dumped or mistreated.

What is hard culling? Also known as terminal culling, it ensures that rabbits not fit for breeding don’t contribute to the overpopulation problem. I fully support sending rabbits to freezer camp and that all rabbits are edible. I know that’s an uncomfortable truth for some, but it’s a fact. Rabbits were domesticated as livestock, just like cattle, pigs, and chickens.

In Show A under ARBA Judge Briony
Sam took 1st Place and earned his 3rd leg
Rowena took 1st Place and earned her 1st leg

In Show B (I don’t remember the judges name)
Dean took 1st Place & BOSV and earned his 1st leg
Seven took 1st place

I believe that was all of the major wins today but it was a great show overall!

Guess what?! I will be hosting an auction later this month! Some of the rabbits coming up will be coming off my show team, others will be young juniors. All that are eligible to show at nationals will likely be entered and can be picked up at New Zealand Nationals in Sedalia, MO. Otherwise I am offering local pickup and I am willing to work with transports within reason.

It’s that time of year! I have LOTS of fertilizer available that has been collecting over the winter months. This stuff is great for getting your garden ready for planting!

Rabbit manure is a cold fertilizer which means you can put it right on your plants and garden beds without having to age or compost it first. Another way to use it is to make a “tea” which is then used to water plants. I use the “tea” on my house plants and they thrive with it.

$20 per bag (recycled feed bags which are then zip tied closed)
Please note that each bag may vary and bags may contain other organic materials such as fur, straw, feed, etc. I also need to add a disclaimer that there could be rocks as I had someone claim there were multiple rocks in the bag they had bought which damaged a piece of equipment they used. There’s more to that story but that’s for another time.

I have sent emails out to all of our participants but I would like to thank everyone again for participating in this contest. This was my first time doing a contest and I truly enjoyed reading everyone’s essays! I hope to do something like this again with one of my reds!

This buck is back on the market after the buyer backed out. Currently located in O’Fallon, MO

He was part of a doe & litter set that Green Gate Farm bought from Half Acre Homestead. On his pedigree there is a lot of Motherwolf and Rums. There’s also some on there from breeders A-Town, 2Hills, and Grace Hollow.

On February 17th he weighed 5 lbs 8 oz, he was 15 weeks old at that time. He does have a fairly large frame and I do believe he will fill out to be at or above senior weight at good age. But I also cannot guarantee that he’ll reach weight as I do not know his lines as well as I know my own. So take that with a grain of salt.

Finally on my way back from a work trip! This has been one of the only ways I’ve been able to see my bunnies all week. To say I’m looking forward to the show this weekend is an understatement, especially since I’ll primarily be showing all of my homegrown rabbits! I only have one attending with me that isn’t of my breedings.

I am so excited to be collaborating with Dawn to Dusk Photography this spring for the Bunny Minis! I plan to have Cowboy with us again this year along with one of my New Zealand Red bucks (Cooper or Seven) and some NZ Red kits! These turned out amazing last year and all the bunnies enjoyed being snuggled and loved on.

Also available HA3, this young buck was in one of the litters that Green Gate Farm got from a breeding selling out. Honestly he’s turning into a nice little buck but I’ve been overrun with bucks and don’t need him!
