On behalf of Thor, AGES wishes to thank those volunteers who were with Thor during his last moments: Kathy for her dedication and love all day, Michael for continuing to finish the regular chores, Ria for her vet academic advice and coming for support, Bethany and Annie for their support and love for Thor, Dr. Cindy Daniels for her vet care and her Tech Portia. AGES Family groups together for Thor and all the other equines there. Prayers to all.

Thor was the most amazingly sentient horse you could meet. He was with AGES for over 10+ years. He arrived with his beautiful brown and white paint lady Branda and their beautiful Icelandic daughter Hera. They are all joined together again with God, watching over AGES.
Love and hugs and prayers for Thor, the gentle God of Thunder, who feared it:)

Today is a hard day. We lost Thor this afternoon. We believe he passed due to a complication from his new medicine. We had many beautiful years with him. Now he is with his Branda and Hera. Our Icelandic's will be missed.

Recovery feeding for horse care

After an emergency, animals may not have access to food for days at a time. Their bodies respond to this starvation by mobilizing energy stores to meet their needs, but this can cause major fluid and electrolyte abnormalities.

Upon rescuing an animal after a disaster, it may be your immediate instinct to offer them food as soon as possible. However, if these animals are offered free choice feed after being rescued, these imbalances can drastically worsen and result in respiratory, cardiac, and neurologic complications. This group of clinical signs in response to introducing feed after starvation is termed “refeeding syndrome”.

To prevent refeeding syndrome, follow the guidelines outlined in the graphic and be sure to work with a veterinarian to address any concerns specific to your situation.

This morning Flynt escaped his home and wondered on over to AGES and visited our herd. Thanks to our special volunteers Kathy, Dave, and Bethany, we found the owner. They were reunited this afternoon. 💕
