This past Weekend's Story at Pet Urgent Care: "Kodaโs Double Whammy" ๐พ๐ซ๐ฟ
This weekend at Pet Urgent Care, we treated Koda, a sweet dog who got into a dangerous double whammyโchocolate and THC. His worried owners brought him in after noticing several signs of distress, including:
-Tremors or twitching
-Vomiting or diarrhea
-Difficulty walking or uncoordinated movements
-Rapid heart rate or heavy panting
-Lethargy or confusion
While Willie Nelson might enjoy his relaxed vibe, this combination is no joke for your dog. Chocolate is toxic to dogs, and THC can cause disorientation, anxiety, and other health issues when ingested.
Fortunately, Koda was treated quickly, and after some rest and care, he was back to his usual self. This serves as a reminder to be extra cautious about what your pets can access, especially around treats and substances that can harm them.
At Pet Urgent Care, weโre always here for emergencies like this, where quick action can make all the difference. Keep chocolate, THC, and other harmful items securely stored to ensure your pets stay safe and healthy!

Wildlife Caution Alert: Protect Your Pets Outdoors
This week at Pet Urgent Care of Wesley Chapel , we had two emergency cases that highlight the hidden dangers our pets face while exploring outside.
Poor Eloise, a sweet and curious Spaniel, came in with a tender belly, and we initially feared a snake bite. However, further examination revealed she had ingested a foreign object. While not a snake bite, this is still very concerningโeating foreign objects can lead to serious complications like blockages, perforations, or poisoning. Common culprits include sticks, rocks, trash, or even toxic plants.
In another case, Sophie the hound showed alarming signs of excessive drooling, which we quickly traced to possible contact with a cane toad. Cane toads secrete a highly toxic substance from glands behind their eyes. If licked or bitten, these toxins can cause severe drooling, vomiting, seizures, or even death. Immediate action is crucial to save a petโs life if they come into contact with a cane toad.
What to Watch For Outside:
Wildlife threats: snakes, cane toads, spiders, or other venomous creatures.
Toxic plants: mushrooms, oleander, lilies, or sago palm.
Foreign objects: trash, small toys, bones, or sticks.
Ponds or standing water: could harbor toxins or bacteria.
Signs of Trouble: vomiting, drooling, weakness, belly tenderness, seizures, or abnormal behavior.
Both Eloise and Sophie received swift care and are on the road to recovery, but these cases serve as a reminder to stay vigilant. Always supervise your pets outdoors and seek veterinary help immediately if you notice unusual symptoms.
