I was SO excited to add Maine C***s to our breeding program about two years ago, but we had one test positive for HCM. We decided it was best not to breed them. Some breeders might still breed with one parent being a carrier, but we disagree with that! It's so important to find a TRUSTED and HONEST breeder who truly cares about the health of all the parents and kittens in every litter.

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a serious heart condition that can affect our beloved cats. Regular health testing in catteries is crucial to detect HCM early and manage it effectively. Ensuring that breeding cats are free from HCM helps maintain the health of future generations and supports responsible breeding practices. Have you had your cat tested for HCM?

Common symptoms of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats can include:

1. Lethargy: Decreased energy levels and reluctance to play.
2. Difficulty Breathing: Rapid or labored breathing, especially during exertion.
3. Coughing: Occasional coughing can be a sign of heart issues.
4. Loss of Appetite: Decreased interest in food or sudden weight loss.
5. Weakness: General weakness or difficulty jumping or climbing.
6. Heart Murmurs: Abnormal heart sounds detected by a veterinarian during a check-up.
7. Sudden Collapse: In severe cases, a cat may experience sudden collapse or fainting.

If you notice any of these symptoms in your cat, it's important to consult a veterinarian for proper evaluation and testing. Early detection and management can make a significant difference in your cat's health.
