Meet Tickles!
Tickles came to Central Vermont Humane Society when the person he'd spent his entire life with lost their home, and could not find anywhere to live, especially with multiple pets. Tickles arrived with two other dogs, and was adopted into a loving home with littermate Hotdog. Unfortunately, as sometimes happens with littermates who have been together their entire lives, these two have decided that 14 years with their sibling is plenty long enough! So they are back with us, hanging out in separate condos this time, and we are looking for homes for them individually.

Tickles is a friendly and cheerful dog, and quite active in our fenced-in yards, despite his age. Keeping him active is important for his on-going need to get to a healthier weight.

In the past, Tickles lived with other dogs, cats, children, and even farm animals, but maybe he's now wishing to spend his golden years getting all the attention for himself. We can talk about whether other animals in the home would be a match for him. When you adopt an elder pet, you are truly doing it for them, to focus on their needs: medical, physical, and emotional. The love and devotion you get back may be a brief time, but it's absolutely priceless.

If you are looking for a real character to add to your life, who will give you plenty of laughs and love, Tickles could be just what you are looking for! Could you be the next loving home in his journey? Contact Central Vermont Humane Society for more information on Tickles! 802) 476-3811 [email protected]

Meet Beetlejuice!!

Beetlejuice came to CVHS due to allergies in the home. At first he can be timid, but with someone willing to be patient he will become outgoing pretty quickly. Unlike the movie, Beetlejuice is an extremely sweet boy with a lot to say. He can be a playful boy, but also enjoys being a couch potato. While receiving attention, he will often make biscuits and show his affection through kisses. Beetle juice has lived with cats, dogs, and older children and did well with all of them. However, he often just ignored the canines in the home. Beetlejuice is scared of loud noises, so would probably do best in a quieter home. Because Beetlejuice has tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) he does need a home that is knowledgeable about the virus and can provide for him.

Don't worry.. you can say his name as many times as you would like!

Update to the Onion River Urgent Care Department!
At Onion River Animal Hospital, we are committed to being there when your pets need us most. That is why, starting Monday, November 4th, we’ll have a dedicated an urgent care team available each day!
Here’s how it works:
For Urgent Needs:
If your pet has an issue that can’t wait, simply call us. Instead of a specific appointment time, you’ll be added to an urgent care queue and given an approximate arrival time. When you come in, we’ll be triaging cases, so there might be a short wait.
Why the Change?
Separating urgent cases from our regular appointments helps us reduce wait times for our regular scheduled appointments, especially, scheduled wellness visits. Our goal is to make both routine and urgent visits smoother for you and your pets.
We appreciate your patience as we get used to this new system and look forward to providing even better care!
Questions? Feel free to call us! We’re here for you and your pets every step of the way. (802) 223-7765

Meet Sable!
Sable is looking for a loving home where she can enjoy all the best parts of being a dog.
She started out as a hunting dog, but had no interest in that lifestyle, and went to live in another home. Due to the busy lifestyle of that home, she was surrendered to the humane society where she can find someone who can devote more time to her, and to house train her.
She's a typical beagle when it comes to following her nose, so a dog buddy who will also stay focused on the amazing scents to explore would make her happy. Sable loves a walk, but is also content to hang out with her people, sniffing in our yards. She is up for anything, as long as she can be with people: hiking, tv on the couch, a walk in the park; she would love to be your buddy. We have noticed that Sable can be scared of loud noises.
She is not very vocal, especially for a beagle. She loves chew toys and treats. She has been with children; she's very gentle, even when jumping up for greetings. She did live with a dog-savvy cat previously.
A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Sable's $350.00 adoption fee, as well as toilet-training resources. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Sable.

We all know our animals want to come out trick or treating with us this Halloween season, but we need to be careful our pups only get a trick with no treats. If your pet ingests any of the your halloween candy, give us a call at (802) 223-7765. Another great resource for any questions regarding if what they ingested was toxic is the ASCPA poison control helpline, (888) 426-4435.

Fun fact: Dark chocolate is more toxic to dogs than milk chocolate.
Some common signs of chocolate ingestion in dogs can be vomiting, diarrhea, elevated heart rate, and muscle tremors. Don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions and one of our team members is happy to help!

Meet Gold!
Gold had some medical challenges when he first arrived but Central Vermont Humane Society has been a great help and he is settling in well. Gold and his friends have settled into the cat colony room well, and he loves attention from the staff. Since there was no communication with his prior owner, CVHS is unsure what he was previously exposed to. He is happy with other feline companionship, and with our personalities, he should do okay with respectful canines and children in his new home.

Contact CVHS for more information on this adorable feline friend!

Meet Orchard!!
Orchard came to CVHS when she made it very clear to her previous owners that she cannot live with other animals. Orchard is a mix of Husky and Border Collie, and unfortunately has the prey drive often common in huskies, rather than the herding instinct of border collies.
Orchard absolutely LOVES attention from humans, and would be happy to have someone to snuggle with, go for long walks and car rides, and play in a secure yard. She enjoys our sensory yard, trying out the agility teeter-totter, and digging in the sand box. She's very smart, and loves learning new skills with positive reinforcement, reward-based training. Orchard walks very nicely on a leash, and greets new people very well. She is skittish about new things in her environment, but looks to her human for guidance. Loud noises can startle her a bit, so young children are probably not the greatest fit for this girl.
Orchard is house-trained, and relaxes nicely in a crate. She has trouble settling in our kennels, but in a staff member's home, she relaxes and naps at her feet, but would prefer to be pet full-time, or even to climb in a lap to help with emails!

A one-on-one consultation with our Behavior Specialist is included in Orchard's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Orchard.

Meet Navy!!

Navy is very friendly, will jump to greet you, and possibly try to be in your skin. He loves car rides, attention from humans, and to run! He has previously lived with a child under 6 years old, but he's a jumpy boy, so older kids in his new home would be best. He does great with pal Sprout but hasn't made any other dog friends in a while.
Navy cannot live with cats, as he will chase them, and not playfully. When his people were not around, he was confined to the kitchen and did well for a few hours at a time. He is not crate trained.
A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Navy's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Navy.
