Pet of the week!
Meet Coretta!
Coretta came to CVHS when her owner was unable to meet her energy needs. Coretta is a young pup, looking for an active household to keep her busy. She has prior experience with dogs, and has met some canine friends here at CVHS, and would probably love to have a canine sibling to play with. With her jumpy/mouthy behavior that is common with her age, we are looking for a home with no young children, as she would be too rough at this stage of her development and training. Her prior owner reports she was doing great with crate training, is housetrained, and her favorite games are playing ball and fetching sticks. With new folks, she can take a few minutes to gain confidence around you, but after that, it's game on!
She has no known cat experience, and isn't always excited about car rides.

Protect Those Paws and Noses This Winter!
Cold weather and harsh conditions can take a toll on your furry friends' noses and paw pads. Thankfully, there are products that can help keep them soft, healthy, and crack-free! Some of our favorites are Bag Balm and Musher's Secret.

Here's how to use them:
-Apply a small amount to your pet's nose or paw pads for protection and healing for year-round moisture but especially helpful during dry winter months
-Rub a small amount onto paw pads before outdoor walks
-Moisturize regularly to prevent painful cracks
-Remove snow and salt after each outdoor adventure

PET OF THE WEEK!
MEET Flirt!
Flirt came to CVHS when his family's household had significant changes, and they could no longer adequately care for a young, active dog.

This people-loving, dog-loving, really smart boy is having a ball with our staff and volunteers, but would love to have a home to call his own. He will keep you on your toes; he loves to play outside in our yards, or go on trail walks, even in the recent bitter cold. He has fun with toys, and will laugh in your face for a good game of keep-away. He's very food motivated, and enjoys puzzle toys, as well as every training session learning new things. Sniffy walks are a favorite pastime, and he enjoys a good snuggle too.

Flirt has done well playing with other dogs here, and seems to prefer a wrestling kind of playstyle. We do not know how he feels about cats. Flirt lived with children over six years old, and would probably thrive in a family with children.

A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Flirt's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]), to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and
to determine if you should meet Flirt.

Keep Your Pets Safe and Comfortable This Winter!
As the temperatures drop, cozying up to the warmth of a woodstove or fireplace feels wonderful—but remember, our furry friends need a little extra care around heat sources. Here are some winter wellness tips for pets:
-Dry Skin: The heat from woodstoves and fireplaces can pull moisture out of the air, leading to dry, itchy skin for your pets.
-Safe Distance: Pets may enjoy lounging close to the warmth, but sitting too close to a fire or stove can cause burns or overheating.
-Hydration is Key: Dry air can also lead to increased thirst. Make sure your pets always have access to fresh water to stay hydrated and healthy.
-Watch for Signs of Discomfort: If you notice your pet scratching more than usual, showing signs of irritation, or feeling unusually warm, it may be time to check their environment and take precautions.

Do you KNOW and love the husky breeds? Are you a single-dog kind of person, with no desire for other animals in your life? Elfie could be the perfect dog for you! Husky experience, and love of the classic sassiness that the breed exemplifies, is a requirement for her next home.
Elfie came to us when her prior home was not a good match for her because she is not good around other animals. She's done well with humans, but this small package has a high prey drive, and should not be around other animals. She did not do well meeting other dogs in her prior home, and while with us she has also made it clear she does not want dog friends, so we are looking for a home where she can be the only animal.
Elfie would do best with older kids (teenagers and up), and likes to cuddle, on her terms. She relaxes nicely in a crate, as long as there are no other animals around, and enjoys couch time getting belly rubs.
Elfie is smart as a whip, and really enjoys learning new things with force-free training. She has a bit of the typical husky aloofness, but is also very attentive to the people she loves.
A consultation with our Behavior Specialist is included in Elfie's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Elfie.

Walter is here to remind you that it is not as fun as it may seem to chase porcupines! With some help from the ORAH team he left feeling much better!

It is important to get your pet to a vet as soon as possible to get the quills properly removed to ensure none are left behind that will cause problems later.

PET OF THE WEEK!
Meet Enchanted!

Enchanted is looking for a home that understands Shepherds LOVE to be with their people, and that she in particular would like to spend EVERY MINUTE possible with you!

This gorgeous girl tested the limits with the other dogs in her previous home, and was on the receiving end of some scuffles, so we are looking to adopt her to a home with no other pets. She has never met cats or children, but she does very well meeting adult strangers, so teenagers would probably also be ok for her.

She is a classic Shepherd, steadfastly "patrolling" her environment, checking in on her people to make sure everything is in order, and pausing for some loving pets before moving along to the next. She is making sure our office space is protected and productive!

A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Enchanted's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about her, and to determine if you should meet Enchanted.

PET OF THE WEEK!
Meet Reindeer!
Reindeer joined the CVHS family because he did not like living with the other dog in the home.

Reindeer walks very nicely on leash, and REALLY wants to be with people all the time. This may be due to the transition to us, because in his previous home, he loved to be outside for long periods, even if he was out there alone. He also will entertain himself with a ball, but his favorite game is to chase and be chased.

Reindeer lived with children previously, but though he was fine with them, he just doesn't prefer the company of children - he loves adults. He was very much into chasing squirrels, so it's doubtful he would live well with cats. He is not a fan of other dogs, so should be the only animal in the home.

A consultation with our Behavior Specialist is included in Reindeer's $350.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected], to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and to determine if you should meet Reindeer.

Cold Weather Warning: Protect Your Pets!
Winter temperatures can be just as dangerous for pets as summer heat. Leaving pets outside in freezing weather or in a cold car puts them at serious risk of hypothermia, frostbite, or worse.
What You Can Do:
-Bring your pets inside during cold weather — if it's too cold for you, it's too cold for them!
-Limit outdoor time for potty breaks and play.
-Provide a warm, sheltered space away from drafts.
Reminder: Never leave pets alone in a car during freezing temperatures. Cars can trap cold air, becoming a freezer for your furry friend.
Let’s keep our pets safe and cozy all winter long!

PET OF THE WEEK!
Meet Jett!
Jett came to CVHS as a "stray", but it's most likely that he is an abandoned dog, and we are here to help him find a better life!

Jett is a young, active, and friendly puppy, who has clearly not had any training or guidance for managing his youthful excitement. This handsome boy is very people-focused, and LOVES attention from staff and volunteers. He's doing well learning to walk nicely on leash and harness, and sometimes his joyful exuberance gets directed into mouthiness on staff's feet, but he's easily redirected with a toy. Much of his behavior is typical for a puppy, and he's quickly learning better alternatives.

He hasn't had a chance to meet any of our other dogs yet, due to his stray hold and then neuter recovery, but he's unconcerned when he sees other dogs in the kennels and on the trails. We do not think he'd be a good fit with cats, and his lack of body awareness could be tough for young kids to live with.

A 5-week Good Manners training course is included in Jett's $480.00 adoption fee. Please call the Adoption Center at 802-476-3811, or email [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]), to schedule a time to talk to an adoption counselor about him, and
to determine if you should meet Jett.
