Looking to have some fun in the sun with your pup for a great cause?
In an effort to support the research of hereditary heart arrhythmias in Labrador Retrievers, a group of dedicated Labrador adorers are holding a fundraiser where you and your dog can partake in “try-it” fun sessions in disciplines including hunting, shed hunting, barn hunting, and dock jumping to discover which sports your furry pal may enjoy. This event takes place on Saturday, July 26th in Hemlock, MI. If you cannot attend the event, but would still like to help make a difference for this cause, QR codes and links have been provided for Venmo and PayPal donations. Anything is greatly appreciated and helps significantly!
Heart arrhythmias in Labrador Retrievers have not been commonly documented until recently, but as can be seen with Squirrel’s story this condition can cause fainting, lethargy, anesthetic issues, or even premature death. Veterinary cardiologists at multiple universities have been compiling and interpreting the results of Holter monitors (24 hour or 7-day ECG) as well as DNA samples from different affected, unaffected, and “control” canine groups. The overall goal of this research is to gain the ability to develop a DNA test which can be run on breeding labradors to identify and prevent the transmission of the responsible gene for this condition.
