Today is National Pet Travel Safety Day! It is important to make sure your contact information on microchip and/or tag is up to date BEFORE leaving the house, even the short trip to the dog park, and always make sure that your pet is properly secured in the car. If you are traveling, prepack a bag with food, water, preventatives, and your pet's vaccination records, and don't forget to take plenty of pit stops for leg stretches and to avoid any accidents!

The new year is right around the corner! As you celebrate tonight, be mindful of your or your neighbors pets; loud noises and fireworks can spook anxious companions. If your pet is on the more more anxious side don't forget to give your prescribed medications 3-4 hours before midnight. Always watch for counter-top thieves too, the most common reported pet poison this year was chocolate and grapes/raisins. Tomorrow, Friday 12/29, we will have updated business hours, operating from 10AM-6PM. Then, this Saturday we will be open from 9AM-8PM and Sunday we will be open from 9:30AM-8PM. West Chester Veterinary Medical Center is open this weekend from 9 AM to 8 PM on Saturday 12/23! If you have an urgent matter pop up this holiday weekend you can count on us!

DO YOU KNOW MY NAME?? I was found wandering on Christine Lane in West Chester and brought me in to WCVMC to see if I have a microchip but sadly I do not. The local police and ASPCA have been notified. I'm staying with my very nice finders until my mom or dad can be found.

November 7th is National Canine Lymphoma Awareness Day. Lymphoma makes up about 10-20% of all cancer found in dogs. It is important to know the warning signs and symptoms; Lymph nodes swollen 3 to 10 times their normal size are the best indicator. While not painful, these can feel firm, rubbery, move freely under the skin and should be looked at as soon as possible. Yearly exams are recommended to monitor your pet's health, and we do recommend bi-annual exams for our senior pets 7 years or older.

Happy Halloween! Be sure to keep an eye out tonight; our furry friends cannot consume chocolate, as much as they want to. Chocolate can be extremely toxic to cats and dogs, symptoms of chocolate poisoning includes vomiting, diarrhea, and restlessness. If you suspect your pet has consumed any chocolate, you should contact poison control and then reach out to your nearest emergency room!
