Our family-centered training approa

ch means that we teach practical skills that families can work into their day-to-day routine. We don't train your dog like a police or working dog whose always on duty. We train dogs to live happily in homes. Our gentle kid friendly methods work for kids as young as 7 or 8. We don't use shock collars or rough handling. We teach the dogs simple rules, train them to fluency in real homes and real neighborhoods, and teach your family easy ways to maintain them. Our lifetime support is one-of-a-kind. We're available by phone, email, text, and even zoom sessions between lessons and after you complete training. We've been standing behind our work since 1998. We want to be your dog's home way from home. We offer boarding and educational dog day care that keeps your dog's training sharp, but only to our training alumni. Our team has been together for years, so you know that your dog will be cared for by people who know and love them every time that they visit. We obsessed with safety. We supervise dogs 24/7 in home environments with the best staff:dog ration in the industry. Give us a call today and see the Training Tracks difference.

Meet Saffy. She’s such a tiny baby that even the smallest dog sweaters were too big for her. When winter showed up this week, Lorna - our resident arts and crafts wiz - got creative and turned a fuzzy winter sock into a nice snug Saffy-sized winter coat so she enjoy her very first snow.

Training Tracks had another party today! Only this one wasn’t as celebratory as usual. We had a goodbye party for our Coney Bologna today. Not only have we created an amazing relationship with Coney since he was just a puppy, but we have created a close relationship with him mom as well. They will both be moving on to a much warmer state, can you blame them?

Over the years, Coney has befriended hundreds of dogs with us. That is not an exaggeration either, if you’ve ever boarded with us or done board and train your dog has probably played with Uncle Coney. Especially if they were shy or needed to learn that playing with other dogs is really fun. His presence at Training Tracks will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. So of course we had to throw him a going away party to let him know how loved he is. We will miss you so much buddy, we wish you and your momma the best in this next chapter of your lives!

A special shout out to Lorna Bradbury for organizing his going away party and making this amazing cake for the party. We could not ask for a more caring and thoughtful team member for not only the dogs but the people here at TT as well. We love and appreciate you so much Lorna!

Ps. See the comments for the slo-mo of coney eating his cake.

***Gus is no longer available**

Hello Training Tracks family. As you all know, we pride ourselves in the amount of support we offer our clients. That means even in the tough times as well. We have been working with Gus, a.k.a. Colonel Gustard for a few months. His mom is unfortunately in a position where she is going to have to rehome him at no fault from either of them. If I wasn’t at max capacity, I would consider taking him myself. Gus is a lovely pyradoodle (poodle/great Pyrenees) with a few quirks, but for the most part is the best dog.

He has some mild squirrel and dog reactivity, but it comes from a place of excitement and he is highly food motivated, so he is easy to work through. We also think he would be a lot more successful in a suburban or rural environment, rather than the city. He is a bit of a professional counter surfer, but considering his size can you blame him? 😂

However, the pros definitely outweigh the cons with this big guy. He is quite literally the biggest snuggle bug you will ever meet and fantastic with all dogs of any size. He is wonderful with kids but he can be a little rambunctious when things get exciting. He has been around kids as young as three years old with no issues. He doesn’t have a ton of experience with cats, but has met one with no aggression, just a little nosy. He is also fully potty trained. As usual since Gus is alumni, he comes with unlimited talk/text support and a few in-home lessons to transfer what he knows to anyone that lives in the general area. We would love it if one of our Oxford clients were interested in him so we could continue to see him, as we have grown really fond of him. If you are interested, please message us on Facebook so we can get you in touch with his owner. There will be a small rehoming fee.

Fenris is still looking for his forever home!

Hello to our Training Tracks family!

Meet Fenris, an absolutely gorgeous white German shepherd. (Pictured on the left) His owner is unable to keep him for reasons beyond her control. We’re hoping to help him find just the right home.

Fenris is a bit of an anxious boy and can be reactive to unfamiliar people and animals. He did a board and train with us this summer. We got him working really well around Oxford, but he’s still a work in progress who needs an owner willing to put in some work with him.

He has a wonderful basic obedience foundation. He’s sometimes a little worried meeting new people or dogs, but warms up quickly. He is crate trained, potty trained, and up-to-date on all his vet care.

He would do best in a relatively quiet neighborhood or in a yard with a privacy fence. A busy environment can stress him out and get him barking a lot.

We’re offering unlimited virtual support and a few in-home lessons to any local adopter to learn how to work with him. We aren’t going to solve his reactivity overnight, but he’s a very sweet-natured boy with tons of potential to overcome it. Please reach out to us on Facebook with any questions or if you’re interested in meeting him.

This sweet girl was dumped and is looking for her forever home. She is a gentle 8 (?) month old that weighs approximately 50 lbs.
She is potty trained and does commands of sit, down and come. Julie has been working on her not to jump and believes she is crate trained too. She is great with other dogs!

If you are interested please contact Julie at 937-626-7123

Yesterday we posted about the importance of early intervention when puppies are showing behavior problems and about dispelling the myth of “they’ll grow out of it.” This adorable little fuzzball is Duvel, and he is a perfect example of the importance of early intervention.

Duvel came to us at not quite 10 weeks old showing some extreme confinement distress in his crate as well as some anxiety when left alone. Throwing fits when crated is a common puppy problem, but this was well beyond that. This poor little man just couldn’t calm himself down. He definitely wasn’t going to grow out of it, and typical crate training protocols would have just made it worse.

Fortunately, he came and stayed with us on his in-home trainer’s recommendation. His first 4 days were sort of a behavioral ICU. Our board and train team structured his day very carefully to systematically start teaching him to feel safe and comfortable in the crate with literal 24/7 attention, and it worked! Thanks to the miraculous plasticity of puppy brains, we got him pretty comfortable in a crate in just a week. The problem isn’t completely solved yet, but it’s a minor issue now.

This kind of rapid change only happens with baby puppies. Had Duvel’s people waited even a few weeks, this could have been a massive project that we couldn’t have addressed with board and train. It could have taken months to resolve and involved a ton of work for his people. Because his other trainer knew her stuff and his parents listened, they’ll all be able to focus on enjoying each other when he goes home.

So please - for the love of dog - help us banish the myth of “he’ll grow out of it.”

We usually keep our FB page light, but I want to talk about 5 words that cause an awful lot of trouble for dogs and their people. Puppy owners hear them every day from friends, family, online “experts,” and even their veterinarians. These 5 terrible words are “he’ll grow out of it.” It’s almost always wrong and sometimes it’s dangerous.

Puppies grow INTO behaviors, not out of them. Without training, troublesome puppy behaviors just get stronger as they mature. Fortunately, failing to address routine problems like jumping, nipping, or destructive chewing seldom leads to anything worse than some unnecessary extra work to address it. Sometimes, however, “he’ll grow out of it” has heartbreaking consequences.

Some behaviors in puppies - like fear, aggression, anxiety, and compulsive behaviors - are serious behavioral emergencies. When we catch them early, we can often solve them quite quickly. Waiting - even just until the onset of adolescence at 5 or 6 months old - can make these issues MUCH harder to solve. Any puppy showing these should see a qualified behavior professional yesterday.

I see a lot of dogs for fear, aggression, and anxiety. Clients often upend their lives to deal with these problems. It can be incredibly stressful and expensive. When I take histories, I repeatedly hear about moments when a vet or puppy class instructor could have completely changed a family’s lives if they had understood what an emergency they were facing and made the right referral. Sadly, even a lot of dog pros have been taught the pervasive myth of “he’ll grow out of it” and most people wait way too long. We need to banish this myth and teach people the importance of early intervention.

On a happy note, we’re currently working with a couple of pups with serious problems whose puppy trainers or vets referred them to us soon enough for us to make a huge impact. We will highlight a couple of them in posts over the next few days. For now here’s the adorable Mr. Raynor just having fun on a field trip.

We’re super-excited to announce that we’re moving from College Corner to Oxford! We’ll be opening for training, kennel-free boarding, and daycare in a home-like setting at 5500 College Corner Pike just south of Walmart. We hope to open before the end of September!

The new facility is 4500 square feet and has 10 rooms. Our team is working overtime to paint, put in new floors, and decorate to make it feel like a home. We’ll have living rooms, a dining room, a kitchen, and a “bedroom” to teach dogs the real world skills they’ll need at home. We even have a front porch and a doorbell so that we can practice door greetings and staying calm when packages get delivered.

We’ll also have 2 indoor play rooms, and - with over an acre of space - at least 2 large play yards and a huge training yard.

The extra space will allow us to open up several new educational dog daycare spots. If you’re on our waiting list, you’ll get in when we open. We hope to be able to take on some new daycare clients as well. Message us to learn more or give us a call at 513-523-WOOF (9663)

One of the most rewarding things that we do is to help fearful dogs gain confidence in the world. Tiny Talon here was scared of other dogs and guarded his favorite people from them. Socializing him safely is tricky because he’s so small.

Luckily Princess Inara the mini Aussie is a daycare veteran and knows exactly how to act with any dog. She quickly made friends with him. Next we introduced Angel, a new puppy in our Day School. Angel was a little overly exuberant, but Inara runs a tight ship and kept her in line until she and Talon became buddies. Talon gained confidence and Angel learned manners. We may need to get Inara certified as a trainer and put her on staff.

Our Story

Training Tracks has been helping families in the Cincinnati, Ohio area get the most out of life with their dogs since 1998. We specialize in practical, real-world dog training that works for busy families’ real lives. We’ll train your dog and your family in fast, fun, effective techniques that can solve almost any behavior problem. We offer in-home training throughout the Cincinnati and Oxford areas, a unique dog board and train program in our trainers’ home, and group dog obedience classes at our facilities in West Chester, OH and Oxford, OH. We also offer expert dog behavior consulting on difficult behavior problems like aggression, fear, and anxiety by nationally recognized and certified experts. Our owners - husband and wife team Mel and Jeff Silverman - came to training (and to each other) through our work in sheltering and rescue. In the mid-1990s, we each became part of a small movement of trainers who designed our services from the ground up to meet the needs of average families and their pets. That sets us apart from most dog trainers who use methods developed for competition sports or police and military dogs. Our family-centered approach includes everyone. We teach simple, gentle methods that work for kids as young as 6 or 7. We offer custom programs for each client, and give you homework that you can work into short sessions during your daily routine rather than expecting you to live like a professional trainer.

Our family-centered approach is most profoundly demonstrated by our unique Total Immersion Board and Train program. Unlike your typical board and train program - where dogs stay in a commercial facility with no overnight supervision and spend 20-22 hours a day in kennels - our board and train dogs stay in our home and live like our own dogs. We train real-world skills in a real home. Dogs learn not to counter surf in our kitchen, to politely greet people at our front door, to leave snacks alone on our coffee table when we watch TV, not to beg at our actual dinner table, etc. We’re very transparent and encourage you to visit your dog and learn what he’s learning while he’s with us. When your dog comes home, our lifetime support comes with him. We start by training your family with several lessons in your home. You get access to free group classes and discounts on refresher training. We offer unlimited phone and video support. Your dog is even eligible to board in our home when you travel. We think of our board and train dogs as family, and hope to be your dog’s home away from home. We’ve been in business since 1998, so you know we’ll be there when you need us. Contact us today on Facebook, by calling 513-779-7829, or visit our website for more information.
