A long tribute to our boy.
When I met Greg Shockley all he talked about was getting a big dog. Maybe a Great Dane or a Mastiff. Then, we met Zane, an eight pound, ten year old Chihuahua, and everything changed. We fostered Zane through for the holidays and then brought him back to the adoption center. A week later, we went back and adopted him. He went from shelter life to living in the suburbs, with acres of land to roam. He gained a big brother and three sisters. He moved to another house, and spent his winters in Utah, before moving there full time last year. He was a grumpy little guy, but he loved his sister, Hope, and most of all, he loved his dad. He was the biggest little dog you could ever have met. He passed away on Monday, October 30 and we are just at a loss. After losing Hope in February, we were not expecting to lose another pup so soon. But, we are so grateful that we got to be his family and that he lived his best life. I hope that he’s with his sister, licking her eyeballs and running around again. We love you, Zany/Peanut/Beige Dog/Little Buddha.

Rest in peace, Sweet Zane Shockley. We love miss you so much and we will love you forever.💔💔💔

It’s hard to fathom how these two super senior Chihuahuas were surviving as strays, without a family or home to call their own. A Good Samaritan found them and brought them to safety. We so very thankful for that, because they need all the help they can get in their golden years.

Montoya and Indigo, two tiny, fragile senior Chihuahuas, are both over 14 years old — Montoya is likely to be even older. We don’t know what their life has been like, but now they are very old, were found stray and we know that journey couldn’t have been easy for them. We are now determined to make their golden years as bright as possible.

Imagining these sweet elderly dogs as strays, fending for themselves, is completely heartshattering. The challenges they would have been facing alone are evident in their health. Montoya is non-weight bearing on her left hind leg, and neither of them have any teeth. Montoya, in particular, is also missing her bottom jaw💔

We've done senior blood work on them both and will have their results back today. We suspect Montoya also has a mammary mass. These brave and unbelievably sweet seniors need extra care and support, and we're committed to providing them with the love and attention they deserve.

We're asking for your support on this $5 Friday to help seniors like Montoya and Indigo. Your donation will go a long way in ensuring their well-being and helping us continue to care for the senior pets who rely on us.

Let's make sure their golden years are filled with comfort and love. Please consider making a donation today, and share their story with your friends and family. Let’s work to find them a home where they will be cherished and adored, for however long they have left.

You can come meet them between 12-5 today if you are touched by their story and have fallen in love.

Adopt a Philly shelter dog and enhance your life in so many ways!

ACCT Philly's shelter is overwhelmed with animals leaving them no choice but to euthanize dogs due to lack of space. This week all animals are available to adopt for $10 and they are asking for the public's help through adoption, fostering, donating and more.

Can you spare a little for this sweet soul?

・・・
Clinging to life as a mere shadow of a dog, his pleading ice blue eyes were the windows to a soul which told a very haunting tale. It is hard to even fathom how difficult his life must have been recently.

Chip was found by a Good Samaritan. He found safe haven in a humble shed overnight as his finder worked to find a rescue to help him. When we heard his story, we knew we had to help. When he arrived at our shelter and emerged from the vehicle, it was like we had the wind knocked out of us. Audible sighs of disbelief could be heard when we saw his condition.

The only way we can accurately describe him was like a walking skeleton. He was skin and bones, scoring a heartbreaking 1/9 on the body condition scale – the lowest possible score a living animal can have.

Just a puppy, every bone in his body seemed visible. When we pet him, it was almost painful — Instead of touching soft, velvet fur, all you could feel were bones sticking out of his frail frame.

What had he been through? How did this happen to him? These are questions that will never be answered. We don’t know how he survived, but thankfully, he did.

Chip is currently on a refeeding program, meaning he is eating very small amounts of food throughout the day to gain weight safely, slowly transitioning to a normal diet. When dogs are this thin, people with good intentions want to give them a big bowl of yummy food. But, the truth is that overfeeding a dog this emaciated can actually be deadly. Food intake for the first few days has to be calculated by a Veterinarian and based on the animal's initial weight.

Feedings are very minimal and spread out, gradually increasing over time. Chip is eating mere tablespoons every few hours right now – just 1-2 tbsp of food every 4-6 hours.

No animal lover wants to even imagine the pain and suffering this sweet boy must have endured as he roamed the streets in search of food and shelter. He is so genuinely nice and so very sweet, making his condition all the more heartbreaking.

We are only able to help animals like Chip with supporters like you.

What a stunning boy Frank is! When idiots stop buy dogs online and from sh*tty breeders, dogs like Frank won't have to suffer for their whole lives!

・・・
hi Frank!

This sweet boy is a 8 year old Shetland Sheepdog. He was surrendered to us from a Lancaster breeder when he was no longer needed.

Frank is a good boy that cannot wait for the spoiled life. He was a bit hesitant putting a leash on, but once he was leashed, he was very good and had no issues handling. He can be initially shy with new people but warms pretty quickly. He is a great little fellow that cannot wait for the spoiled life.

He will need to meet any resident dogs.

He will come neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and 4dx tested. We will also be evaluated for a dental while under sedation and will receive it as needed.

**If you are serious about adopting, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.phoenixanimalrescue.com His adoption fee is $450**

Keep your pets, plain and simple.

・・・
Imagine waking up one day, happy as can be with your family, only to find yourself homeless by the end of the day💔

Goose is an incredible Golden/mix pup who was surrendered back to us today after almost two years in a home due to no fault of his own because his owners divorced.

Goose was clearly loved and adored by his owners, and now this beloved family pet has no idea why his world has been turned upside down. He seems heartbroken and so bewildered to be back in the shelter environment, surrounded by unfamiliar faces and echoing barks.

We need to make his stay in the shelter short, and work together to help him find a new home of his own. This is a dog that doesn’t belong in a shelter — But then again, none of them do.

Please share Goose’s plea. This friendly, sweet and loving boy is so ready to meet you. We open again tomorrow at 12 and are hoping someone shows up to give this boy his forever freedom ride.

・・・
We have the coolest and cutest new Standard Poodle here who would love to meet you!!!💚

This gorgeous guy is Hendricks. He is 4 years old and lost the home he has had since he was a puppy at no fault of his own. He is so smart, knows so many commands and he is so incredibly sweet!💚

Hendricks lived happily with kids in his former home, and his family said that he loved to cuddle. He is house and crate trained, too!

This sweet boy needs to be back in a home! Come on over and meet him — We guarantee you will fall in love!

Gunther is a happy and friendly boy. he is a bit hesitant on the leash right now but once off, he is much more comfortable and confident. He loved playing with our volunteer and with a tennis ball. He is looking for a fun loving family that will take him on lots of adventures and provide a loving and supportive home.

Gunther would need to meet any resident dog.

He will come neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped.

・・・
Meet Yoda, the 4-year-old Belgian Malinois shepherd who helped subdue Danelo Cavalcante during his capture in South Coventry Township on Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol’s tactical unit, BORTAC, released Yoda after Cavalcante attempted to flee the Border Patrol and state police officers who had encircled him in thick underbrush.

The dog first bit Cavalcante’s scalp and then latched onto his thigh, Deputy U.S. Marshal Robert Clark said, “at which time, Cavalcante submitted.”

Yoda is a member of a tactical unit from El Paso, Texas. The American Kennel Club calls the Belgian Malinois a “smart, confident, and versatile” breed that works hard and forms unbreakable bonds with humans.

Smaller and lighter than German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois are frequently sought by law enforcement agencies for K-9 operations. The dogs are trained to attack once, but not repeatedly, and will release on command.

Read more about Yoda's role in Cavalcante's capture at the link in our bio.

・・・
We are losing hope for senior boy Major. There is no other way to put it💔 No matter what we do, nothing pans out for him.

Major is in desperate need of an adoptive home or foster home. He is currently in a temporary foster home, but will be coming back to the shelter on September 9. His shelter friend was amazing enough to gave him a break since he was deteriorating medically in the kennel environment, but his time in foster is coming to an end.

We know when he comes back, he will begin the downward spiral he always goes into in the shelter. His skin flares up, and his feet become so swollen they look like baseball mitts. He also becomes very depressed. He has such pain in the shelter that there are days he struggles to even leave his kennel.

In a home, these skin issues improve drastically. We desperately need to keep this old man OUT of the shelter. Our veterinarian is doing everything possible to treat him, but we are running out of options medically and know that he needs to stay OUT of the kennel in order to keep improving.

Major has been fine with calm dogs but would ideally go to a home where he is the only dog or where he could be separated at first. He needs a stable environment and a family who is committed to helping him. He cannot live with cats.

We need someone to step up for him. Now is the time to ask yourself “if not you, then who?” We know not everyone is in the position to foster or adopt, but sometimes people read these pleas and expect others to make it work. If you are a dog lover, please truly ask yourself if you could be the one to help him.

We are so desperate to find him a loving place to land.

Almost a year in a kennel is just too long. Adopt Maple.

・・・
Sweet Maple is our longest-term resident in our Cat Room, having come to us last October! That is almost ONE year — how can that be??!💔

Maple was found as a stray by one of our vets who lovingly cared for her before bringing her to MLAR. She was shy at first, but has become much friendlier with people and has started to come out of her shell! She loves to be on the Catio, bird-watching and enjoying interacting with anyone who will engage her in a session with a wand toy!

Maple is FIV-positive which just means her immune system may be weakened. This young girl should be able to live a normal, healthy life.
Maple has touched our hearts, and our wish is for her to find a home with someone to love her.

Come meet Maple, and maybe you'll be that someone for this special girl!

ADOPTION PENDING!!!!

Please share for handsome Water.

・・・
Water will be euthanized on Saturday, 8/26 at 10am, unless someone shows up in person to adopt or foster him. There is a space crisis with every single cage full and more dogs coming in daily. Extensions are unlikely to be granted. It just takes one person to save his life.

To save his life you must go IN PERSON IMMEDIATELY!!! Do not wait, do not call, just email [email protected] to tell them you are on your way, and make sure you are there before his scheduled euthanasia!!!

Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let the shelter know if you are considering a dog by emailing [email protected]

Meet Water! His owners got evicted and could no longer take him with them. He has had a tough time in the shelter and has been struggling with stress since adjusting to life in the kennel. Water would benefit from an owner who will allow him the time and space to feel safe again. Water will do best in an adult-only home with patient owners who can finally show him the love he deserves.

Medically Water was generally healthy. He was medicated for his symptoms of anxiety. Staff also stated: Interested when walked up to the kennel, allowed petting, offered cheese and ate readily, calm in the kennel, did not bark or growl, no obvious signs of fear. Water has also had positive dog interactions since being in our care so, if you are adding this pup to your pack we would recommend a slow introduction. He is looking for a place to settle down and finally relax where he can decompress. Water was crying for me and pawing at the door. He was putting both his paws up trying to squeeze through the bars, and did not accept treats (or the cheese on his kennel card). He continued to cry as I walked away.

Please share for beautiful Naomi.

・・・
Naomi was a long term resident with us and after being briefly adopted over the summer, sadly, she recently came back to us.

This sweet girl is an 8 year old Rottweiler. She came to us when she was finally released from a breeding farm.

Naomi is sweet as pie. She may be hesitant at first but just give her some time to figure out that you bring treats and butt scratches and she will be your best friend. She’s been easy to handle, friendly and overall just a very good dog. She’s a bit more on the petite side of a Rottweiler.

The prior adopter reported that after a month in the home, she was still very timid and scared so she would often freeze. She seems to like watching TV and will watch it all day. He would put on videos for dogs and cats. She also watches regular TV shows - she gets the most excited when she sees horses and cows.

Naomi is looking for her perfect home they will spoil her rotten and help her make up for the last years. Having at home a social, friendly and confident dog would be a of big help for Naomi.

She would need to meet any resident dogs.

Naomi will come spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and 4dx tested.

If you’re serious about adoption, please fill out the adoption application on our website www.phoenixanimalrescue.com Her adoption is $300**

Here is Gino, before and after.
This poor guy was dumped by his “owner” after it was decided that he wouldn’t take him to be slaughtered. Gino is obese and has some skin issues, but remains the sweetest boy. He allowed the staff at the shelter to get him into the van and he was finally able to move. Once he got to the sanctuary, he knew that his new life was about to begin. Fresh air, grass and dirt and so much love! I am forever grateful to Sarah, the ED of the shelter, for reaching out to me about Gino, to Kathy for driving him over an hour away and to for giving him the best place on earth to start his new journey. Pigs are amazing animals and my heart is so full.

Maui holds a special place in my heart. Greg and I got married there and visited many times. My heart breaks for the people and animals that have been affected by the wildfires. needs help.

・・・
With our population over capacity before this tragedy, we are running extremely low on space, supplies and fosters. As we are experiencing tragedy or know someone who is, we will need to band together as a community for both our humans and animals. If you are in a position to help, please do - and there are multiple ways to help. Fires continue to burn with new fires popping up across the island. In this time of crisis, Maui Humane Society is rallying the community to work together and extend a helping hand and paw to those affected. Whether you are on island or on the mainland, here’s how you can help:

We need SOS Dog Fosters. Come into the shelter and temporarily foster a dog. We are expecting an inundation of hundreds of animals who have been burned, lost during the evacuation process and those in need of critical care. We need the kennel space to be able to house these animals in hopes of reuniting them with their Ohana's once this is all over.

We need donations. Pet food, pop-up kennels, and litter are pivotal to providing sustenance to animals, as staff and volunteers are putting together kits for families and animals in need. For those on the mainland looking to help, supplies can be delivered directly to us via our Amazon Wishlist and monetary donations will be crucial to cover the costs of the lifesaving medical treatments necessary to save animal lives.

Communication to facilitate coordination and support within the Maui community, a mutual help Facebook group, "Maui Fires Pets Help Group," has been created. This group serves as a platform for individuals who are able to help to connect with those in need, without straining the resources at the shelter. We encourage community members to join this group and collaborate with fellow Maui residents to ensure that animals stay with their owners as much as possible.

Learn more about SOS fostering, our Amazon Wishlist, how to donate and the Maui Fires Pets Help Group using the link in bio.

The most handsome man, Lonnie, needs help as soon as possible.

・・・
Lonnie ACCT-A-144534 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Lonnie must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Friday August 10th at 10 A.M.

Meet Lonnie! This medium sized, fluffy senior came to us as an intact male on August 7th after he was found roaming the streets alone in the pouring rain. While in our care Lonnie has been a very gentle man who has shown us he loves to mozy around while sniffing the amazing scents the world has to offer. Lonnie has also had positive dog interactions since being in our care, staff has observed him being generally disinterested in other dogs but, having positive meets when he is engaged with the other dog. If you are adding Lonnie to your pack we would recommend a slow introduction.

Medically Lonnie was seen by staff on 08/8. During this exam Lonnie was assessed based on his condition and staff was able to draw his blood to understand his health better. They stated "Blood work indicates dehydration and mild inflammation. This Dog is a senior with decreased mobility and no interest in food at time of exam. In addition, he may have sustained some sort of trauma prior to intake, as his coat is covered in an unknown substance. During this exam staff also mentioned that "Lonnie behaved very well for exam, sweet boy

Overall based on his medical conditions and age, Lonnie would do best in a place where he can relax and continue to have his health managed on a regular basis. If you think this cuddly senior is right for you, please come meet him at ACCT Philly today!

・・・
hi Frappe!

This tiny guy is a 4 month old mini bernadoodle. He was surrendered to our care from a Lancaster breeding farm because he got too old to be sold.

Frappe is the happiest, friendliest, sweetest little dog ever. He loves everyone and anything.

He is looking for an active, patient family that will give him a loving home to grow up and get old in. At this age, it will be incredibly important to continue socializing him so he could continue growing into the wonderful dog that he is.

He is looking for a home with another, social friendly dog.

He will be adopted with age-appropriate vaccines, dewormed and microchipped and neutered.

hi Joyce!

This good girl is a 3 1/2 year old Bernese Mountain Dog. She came to us from a breeding farm in Lancaster when she was no longer needed.

Joyce is a wonderful lady. She has been nothing but sweet and friendly with us. She does well on the leash and allows all handling. She can be initially a bit shy but she quickly warms up to her volunteers and friends.

She has done well with other dogs and would need to meet ay residents.

She will come spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and 4dx tested.

This is the only kind of Big Mac that I recommend!
# #
・・・
Hi Big Mac!

This happy boy is a 4 year old Yellow Labrador. He was released from a commercial breeding farm as he was no longer needed to stud.

Big Mac is large and in charge. He is a silly, goofy dog that comes in at solid 95 lbs. He is extremely happy and friendly. He did not seem interested in toys at first but show him a treat and he turns into a little jumping bean. He is eager to learn, as long as something yummy is involved. Everyone is his best friend and he has never met a person he didn't love immediately.
He would be amazing with an active family.

He has done well with other dogs and would need to meet any residents.

He will come neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed and 4dx tested.
