🎄 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads.
And mamma in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of midday to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:

“Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and V***n!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! dash away! dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the housetop the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas, too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

His eyes—how they twinkled! his dimples, how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard on his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly.

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

But just as I settled back into my chair,
I heard a small rustle, a noise in the air.
I turned, and there stood, with a wag and a bark,
My beagle, tail wagging, bright-eyed in the dark.

He sniffed at the stockings, then made a quick dash,
Sniffed the cookies, then snatched up one in a flash.
But as I scolded, he gave me a grin,
And laid down beside me with a soft little spin.

And so as we nestled, with the fire aglow,
The beagle curled up, and I whispered low:
“Happy Christmas to you, my dear four-legged friend,
For you’ll always be with me, till the very end."

UPDATED 12/16/2024 Hi! My name is Bella! I'm a very sweet 7-year old female beagle. I need a new home because my people passed away. I'm a very affectionate & easy-going girl! I'm very loving! I'm already spayed & up-to-date on vaccines! I'm good with other dogs. I've been around children of all ages. I came into Nittany Beagle Rescue extremely overweight, & needed to lose over 30 lbs. I've been doing the underwater treadmill at a local vet's office & my foster mom has me on a good exercise & diet regime. I've already lost over 20 lbs. & I feel fantastic! Now that I've lost so much weight, I like to go for walks! Right now, I weigh about 42 lbs., & the vet thinks I should probably weigh about 30 lbs. So I'm still at it - & feeling great! Unfortunately, because of the excess weight I had for so long, my knees got messed up. So we're also working with the vet to help with my knee pain. But I'm making great progress & I'm so happy! I love to lay on my back when I'm feeling good! (You can see my happy face when I'm on my back in one of my photos! :) I'm housetrained & I'm crate trained, but I prefer sleeping in my soft bed. I'm anxious to find my forever home! Because Nittany Beagle Rescue is still working with the veterinarian to get me healthy, I need to stay close to the State College area. Please think about making me part of your family!

We are Sophie and Jake, and our mommy Vickie has been volunteering for NBR since the beginning of this year.

She loves to walk the dogs and help with the fundraising events. And sometimes, in the future, she may even foster. She tells us it is so rewarding to help the sweet furbabies out until they find their furever home. So if you are looking for something to do with your spare time that is so rewarding, think about becoming a volunteer at Nittany Beagle Rescue. You truly will not regret it 💖

Hi! My name is Bandit! I'll be 1-year old on 12/20/2024! So I'm a young guy! I'm supposed to be a beagle/collie mix, but Nittany Beagle Rescue doesn't see any collie in my. I seem to be all hound! I'm long-legged & about 50 lbs. I'm super sweet! I love everyone! I'm active of course since I'm a young guy! I'm also playful. I love fetch, tug-of-war & ball! But I'm also easygoing. I've been around children as young as 10 & I'm great with them! I like to bark at things when I'm outside -especially squirrels! (I like to chase squirrels also!) But I'm quiet when I'm inside. I've lived with a big dog & did great with him! I've never been around cats. I like to hang out on the furniture with my people - or I'll hang out on a dog bed on the floor. I'm housetrained. I've always had access to a doggie door but the doggie door is locked at night for about 8 hours & I do just fine! I haven't been in a crate for about 4 months, but I was fine when I was crated. I'm already neutered & up-to-date on vaccines. Please think about giving me a home - I'm so anxious to have one!

..Easy Peanut Butter Cupcakes for Dogs

Prep Time: 5 minutes Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes Yield: 6 cupcakes

Description
A quick and easy dog cupcake recipe with peanut butter frosting. Celebrate your dog’s birthday or special day with homemade pupcakes!

📍Ingredients
1/2 cup brown rice flour (or substitute whole wheat flour or rye flour)
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/3 cup organic applesauce
1 organic, pastured egg
2 Tablespoons honey
3 Tablespoons organic plain yogurt
1 1/2 Tablespoon organic/all-natural peanut butter

📍Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a mixing bowl, stir the flour, baking powder, vegetable oil, applesauce, egg, and honey until well combined.
Insert cupcake liners into a muffin or cupcake pan. Spoon mixture into cupcake liners, filling each about halfway.
Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of cupcake comes out clean.
Allow cupcakes to cool to room temperature.
Meanwhile, in a bowl, stir yogurt and peanut butter until mixture is smooth and creamy. Use a small spatula or butter knife to smooth thin layer of the frosting over each cupcake.
