We are in for some cold weather the next few days and our Stables policy is above 40 feel like temperatures for riding. We will post on this page days we are closed to riding and will call scheduled rides the morning of if we need to reschedule. Thank you and stay warm!

Update on our GoFundMe! $2000 has been raised!! Thank you!! Those funds went to Moore Equine for dog houses, Sandhills Pony Club for hay and fencing supplies and 4HLAS for fuel for all the trips they are making out to the mountains with supplies. The staff and volunteers at the SLLA stables along with the Board of Directors want you to know some of our horses have had various degrees of elevated respiratory rates since Thursday. Currently, our veterinarians do not know what is causing this. It could be environmental, viral, or bacterial. Tests have been run and we are waiting on some bloodwork results. We are also checking feed, bedding, and the barn for possible causal factors.

The very good news is the affected horses are on medicine and are stable. We have the entire herd outside since fresh air is best. You will see people around the barn 24/7 over the next few days while we continue to care for the horses. As an abundance of caution, the team is taking vitals on every horse every 4 hours during the day, every 6 hours over night and is administering meds as necessary to maintain stable conditions.

Please don't worry about the horses, they are comfortable and well looked after. They all have healthy appetites and are as playful as ever.

Unfortunately, the Stables will be closed while we work to find the cause of the elevated respiratory rates. We realize that some of you may wish to visit to provide support and comfort to the horses, but we need everyone to please keep a safe distance until the health professionals give the okay. We will keep you updated via the SLLA e-Blast and SLLA Stables page on the condition of the horses and when the Stables will reopen.

Good Afternoon,

The Stables Afterschool program will be cancelled this afternoon due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts.
We will be back on schedule next Friday, October 11.
