It's getting to be that dangerously hot time of year again so we're asking you to keep an extra special eye on your pets. If they are outside, make sure they have shade and water and get them back inside as soon as possible! If your house is hot (like mine is) have fans on and lots of water available. Heat stroke can happen fast so be vigilant!

Now I have arrived at your home,
everything is strange, and I don't feel good.

Do not feel impatient
If i don't sleep in my newbasket.
Yesterday, I slept on a stone floor.

Do not be terrified if i gobble up my food.
Yesterday. I had to do it to survive.

Do not get angry if I p*e on your floor.
Yesterday, it did not matter.

Do not be sad if I am afraid of your loving hand. Yesterday, I did not have one.

Have patience with me, it's your world
but not yet mine.

If I trust you, I can give you the greatest
Gift Ihave to give..
My Heart ❤️

Please never forget, I was a pound dog
All I need, is a bit of time to adjust.

We'd like to introduce you to Gaia! She is a 5 month old dilute tortie kitten who is negative for feline leukemia and FIV, negative for intestinal parasites, and is fully vaccinated. She is still just a bit too young to be spayed, but if you adopt her from us, we offer a $100 discount on the spay surgery.

Gaia desperately needs a forever home. She was brought to us over 3 months ago as a stray and has spent far too much of her kittenhood in a cage. Like most kittens, she is a bundle of energy, but she is also sweet and affectionate, once she has gotten the zoomies out of her system. She likes other cats and seems interested in and unafraid of dogs.

If you'd like to meet (and hopefully then adopt!) Gaia, please message us any time or call us at 203-934-3528 during business hours. We ask for a $50 adoption donation to partially defray the cost of vaccinating and testing the adoptable strays in our care. If you are not a client of ours already, we welcome you to adopt from us but we will ask for a reference from your veterinarian.

Please help make Gaia's dream of getting out of a cage and into her forever home a reality!

Nobody tells you how quickly dogs age. How one day you wake up and suddenly their face is all white. Or how their eyes start to seem more milky than before, or how you have to call their name a few more times than you used to. Everyone says not to blink if you have children or you'll miss out. But what about the dog that was there with you before your children were even thought of?
The dog that was by your side before you even found love. Nobody tells you to cherish every moment you have with them.... Cherish the dog. The one that's been there by your side through every breakup followed you as you bounced from home to home. The one that sleeps in your bed and keeps you from feeling lonely. Cherish him because one day you'll take him on a walk and he'll get tired before you and you'll realize just how many years he's Been walking beside you...

WHEN I AM OLD

When I am old...
I will wear soft gray sweatshirts...
and a bandana over my silver hair...
and I will spend my social security checks on my dogs.
I will sit in my house on my well-worn chair
and listen to my dogs breathing.
I will sneak out in the middle of a warm summer night
and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow...
When people come to call, I will smile and nod
as I show them my dogs...
and talk of them and about them.....the ones so beloved of the past
and the ones so beloved of today...
I will still work hard cleaning after them,
mopping and feeding them and whispering their names
in a soft loving way.
I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat,
like a jewel, and I will be an embarrassment to all...
especially my family...
who have not yet found the peace in being free
to have dogs as your best friends...
These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall...
and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep,
to greet you as if you are a God,
with warm eyes full of adoring love and hope
that you will always stay,
I'll hug their big strong necks...
I'll kiss their dear sweet heads...
and whisper in their very special company....
I look in the mirror... and see I am getting old....
this is the kind of person I am...
and have always been.
Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me.
Please accept me for who I am.
My dogs appreciate my presence in their lives...
they love my presence in their lives...
When I am old this will be important to me...
you will understand when you are old,
if you have dogs to love too.

It's that time again! We are issuing an urgent plea for newspapers, which we use as cage liners. Thanks to everyone who donated the last time we asked, and we hope you'll be able to do so once more. The staff of the West Haven Animal Clinic and all the animals thank you very much!

HELP! We need newspapers! As more and more of us obtain our news from digital sources, the physical newspaper is becoming an increasingly scarce commodity. Our supply is almost completely exhausted, so if you happen to have a pile of newspapers that's ready for the recycling bin, please consider recycling them with us instead. We thank you and our patients, boarders, and adoptable cats thank you, too!

An important message for all of our clients who are cat parents:

Does your cat hate getting in to his or her carrier? We totally understand; ours do, too. But it is very, very important that you always bring your cat in a carrier when you come in for an appointment. This is first and foremost for your cat's safety, and also for your safety and the safety of our staff. No matter how mellow and laid back your kitty might be at home, the vet's office can be a very stressful and overwhelming environment for a cat, and their behavior can become extremely unpredictable. If you have ever tried to hold on to a terrified cat, you know how badly injured you can get. In addition, some of our canine patients can be aggressive toward cats, and our waiting room is small (and the front door opens to a very busy street). It would only take a split second for a potential tragedy to occur.

Though we have always had this rule in place, we find it necessary to emphasize this point, as we have recently experienced a series of unfortunate incidents in which both clients and members of our staff have been bitten by very scared cats who weren't in carriers. We thank you for your understanding!

Meet Brut! We would love to help him start the new year with a forever home. He is a 4 year old neutered male pittie, and he loves people. However, he does not like other animals and would definitely need to be your only pet. Please share, and message us if you are interested.

Today I saw it with my own eyes.
I asked people around and they said he comes there every day and lies down for a few hours.
Then he goes somewhere and comes again the next day!
It's long past time to understand that there are things in life much more important than money, power, and career. There is something in the world called true, selfless Love!
