As we start gearing up for the holiday 🎄 season we wanted to remind you that rawhide 🚫 is not a safe treat for dogs.

Some safe alternatives bully sticks, yak cheese, frozen (uncooked) marrow bones, beef cheek rolls, hooves and fish skins are amazing!!!

Dear Ashe County community and friends of our beloved home,


We must begin with thank you. Thank you for your resilience, support, love, belief, generosity, and hope. Throughout the last two weeks, we have experienced an amazing abundance of each of these at a time when we all have needed them most. Our days and hearts have been warmed by the monetary donations, supplies, food, fuel, and hard work so many have shared. While we have seen tremendous progress already, some of our communities have much recovery and rebuilding yet to do. For those still in immediate need and experiencing the emotional trenches, you have our unwavering support, whether that is expressed through supplies, information, and resources or helping hands to guide our community toward peace and prosperity for all; please know we are here. We also need to express our sincerest gratitude to the emergency personnel, utility workers, and countless volunteers who have been tireless in their efforts to save lives and make our communities safer and more comfortable.


For those interested in knowing how you can help, there is much to be done. We have begun transitioning from needing supplies to needing support, and several avenues are available for donations. Please research or reach out for clarification on different fundraising options.

While some of our county is not accessible to visitors, other areas are open and welcome your in-person support. Our small businesses, retail shops, restaurants, and lodging providers need your patronage. West Jefferson, Jefferson, Glendale Springs, and Grassy Creek are open for business and eager for help kickstarting our community’s economic recovery, and your other favorite locales are working toward rebuilding and reopening. While the Blue Ridge Parkway and our state parks are closed, there are numerous chances to shop and enjoy live music, murals, and other visual arts. If you already have accommodations arrangements for an upcoming trip, please reach out to the property management to confirm accessibility and verify the best route.


Additionally, we ask that visitors remain aware and conscientious of ongoing efforts to rebuild roadways, bridges, and homes. Work remains in progress on many routes, so please utilize extra caution and patience in your travels throughout the region. Much of this work continues in the northern and western portions of the county, and while we know that you may be eager to check on your favorite spots, any additional traffic to these areas inhibits repair efforts and slows their progress. Please also note that this is not a safe time for travel by motorcycle as much debris remains on or alongside our roadways. If not yet visiting in person, many local businesses offer online shopping options or gift certificates. Your support of these vendors helps keep our stores open and our neighbors working.


Speaking of our neighbors, we ask that you extend extra grace and kindness to all whom you encounter; we have all weathered a historic storm and an exhausting combination of resulting emotions and experiences. Our community is steadfast and gritty, steeped in pride and determination. We are also caring, gentle, and filled with gratitude. Thank you for your continued support of Ashe County, which we believe remains the coolest corner of North Carolina. We are grateful for your empathy and patience in honoring these guidelines, and we look forward to welcoming you back to this place we all love.

If you are thinking of coming to the High Country of NC for the Fall 2024 Leaf Looking season, please be aware that we have many challenges. While many businesses have re-opened, many have not yet re-opened as we recover from Hurricane Helene.

With that in mind, please stay exclusively on the highways listed on the map below and only visit the downtowns. We will be sharing more information soon. Thank you!

We appreciate the support!!!!!! And need y’all’s help more than ever.

Though the storm has passed, recovery is still underway, and our local businesses are stepping up in remarkable ways. Many are not only OPEN but also serving the community by offering free meals to responders, setting up donation drop-offs, and providing essential resources. Short-term rentals are also available, though we kindly ask anyone with overnight reservations to check with their accommodation to ensure it’s ready for your stay.

Now, more than ever, it's crucial to remember that supporting local makes a difference. Here’s how you can help during this challenging time:

Purchases: Buy gift cards from your favorite local shops or purchase supplies from nearby stores.

Meals: Support local restaurants by purchasing meals for yourself or donating extra meals to those in need.

Social Media: Spread the word about your favorite businesses by sharing their posts, leaving positive reviews, or telling others how they can help.

As we expect a quieter fall season this year, any support you can offer makes a big impact. Together, we can keep our community strong! 💙

Lake Hickory Veterinary Hospital who brought a full trailer over. Even gave us some horse and livestock feed.

We can’t thank yall enough.

Saturday and Sunday we spent all day delivering to Ashe county residents who can’t get to town. Then dropped off some puppy food to Fleetwood, a load to Blowing Rock who loaded it up and took it to Avery Co, a full load to Avery Co this morning mybestfriendsbarkery who will take it out to the Avery Humane Society. Tomorrow we we will take another load to Watauga Humane Society.

And the countless people who have showed up to the shop.
