HSMC is a non-profit 501c3 organization founded on July 3, 1989 by a group of Madison County residents who felt there was a great need for a Humane Society in Madison County. The shelter is supported by the Madison County Commissioners, Madison County Sheriff's office, donations, grants, fundraisers and adoptions.

A wonderful lady reached out to us, expressing her interest in helping our organization. She mentioned that she had a bolt of fleece material and asked if she could make some blankets for our cats and kittens. We happily accepted her offer, as her kindness and support mean a great deal to us.

Each person who adopts a cat or kitten from our organization receives one of these cozy fleece blankets. We believe this thoughtful gesture adds a special touch to the adoption experience and helps our animals feel even more comfortable as they move to their new homes. Isn’t that nice?

Meet Buddy!

The sweetest 10‑year‑old gentleman with a whole lot of love (and fetch skills) left to give.

Buddy may be a senior, but don’t let that fool you, this boy lives for fetch. His ball is his pride and joy. We're still working on bringing the ball back but he's only hesitant because he loves it so much. Buddy would need to be the only dog in the home but he has so much personality, you won't need another!

He knows all his basic commands — sit, down, wait, shake/paw, speak — and even has a special trick: if you tell him “inside voice,” he’ll give you the cutest little whisper bark.

Buddy is the perfect mix of playful and cuddly. He can entertain himself with his toys or curl up on the couch with his favorite person. Give him a big, soft bed and he’s in heaven.

He’s gentle, loving, and ready to bring joy and a whole lot of heart to his forever family.

Approximate Birth Date - 12/17/2015

Size - Large (48lbs)

Other dogs - Buddy would need to be the only dog in the home.

House Training - Buddy is fully house trained.

If you’re looking for a loyal shadow who adores being close to her people, Lulu is your girl. This sweet, affectionate bulldog is all about comfort: warm baths, soft blankets, and snuggling right up next to you is her idea of a perfect day.

Lulu walks nicely on leash and loves exploring at a gentle pace, but her heart truly belongs wherever you are. She does have some separation anxiety, so she’ll thrive in a home where someone is around often and happy to keep her company.

She’s very food motivated (bulldog priorities), and while she takes treats with enthusiasm, she can get a little overexcited about snacks. Because of that, she’d do best in a home with kids over 5 who understand how to give treats safely. She’s currently on a sensitive‑skin diet due to allergies — pretty common for the breed — and she’s doing great on it.

And we can’t forget her signature feature: Lulu has the most adorable underbite you’ve ever seen. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her sweet, slightly goofy smile.

Lulu is ready for a home that loves cuddles, calm days, and constant companionship. If you’ve got room on your couch and in your heart, she’ll fill both beautifully.

Approximate Birth Date - 11/11/2021

House Training - Lulu hasn't been with us for very long and given how stressed she's been in the kennel, It's hard to truly say if she's house broken or not.

Other dogs - Lulu has been dog tested here at our facility and has done lovely with other dogs so far.

FOSTER TO ADOPT
Introducing Affogato!

Meet our big, bouncy, 12‑week‑old babies already tipping the scales at 30 lbs. These kids are going to be large, strong adults, and they’re looking for families ready for the full puppy experience.

They’re sweet, social, and curious, but make no mistake: puppies are work. They’ll need consistent potty training, structure, and plenty of exercise. They’re in the “chew on everything you love” phase, so adopters should be prepared to puppy‑proof their homes and redirect all that energy into appropriate outlets.

If you’re ready for a smart, active, growing pup who will keep you on your toes (and steal your socks), one of these four might be your match.

Approximate Birth Date - 09/18/2025

Size - 30lbs

Other dogs - Puppies are almost always dog friendly. it'll be more about whether or not your dog can handle a puppies energy level and play style.

House Training - These pups are working on house training currently at the prison training program.
