HSMC is a non-profit 501c3 organization founded on July 3, 1989 by a group of Madison County residents who felt there was a great need for a Humane Society in Madison County. The shelter is supported by the Madison County Commissioners, Madison County Sheriff's office, donations, grants, fundraisers and adoptions.

Tonka- Best friends with Yo Yo

** In order to adopt a kitten from HSMC, you must live within an hour of the shelter. You will initially "foster to adopt" the kitten and then the adoption will be finalized when they are brought back for their spay/neuter surgery. You will need to bring the kitten back for vaccines and exams prior to their spay/neuter surgery**

This is the impossibly precious, Tonka. This adorable little girl was brought to us along with her siblings when they were tiny kittens. This adorable crew has spent time in a foster home since coming to us, and that is where they currently reside. Tonka has an estimated birthdate of 6/20/25, so she's just 10 weeks old. This adorable little tiger is big on fun, and cannot get enough play time with her siblings. She is a big fan of feather wand toys and playing with her foster dog pal. Her favorite sibling is her sister, YoYo. She knows how to balance out life though, and is also big on love, cuddling and playing with his people. Tonka's foster mom says that she and YoYo are the best of friends and cannot get enough of each other. Tonka would LOVE to be adopted with YoYo if possible. Did you know that Single Kitten Syndrome is a real thing? It's true, that kittens adopted in pairs have less behavioral issues, are happier and more adjusted, plus you save two lives instead of one! Being so young, Tonka would do great in a home where there are already resident kitties and cat-friendly dog. Since Tonka is still a tiny kitten, care must be taken to protect her from injury, from being stepped or sat on, or being unintentionally injured by a child, or pets in the home. Would you like to meet the adorable, Tonka and hopefully YoYo too? If so, please fill out an application and schedule a meet and greet. Remember that this little cuddle bug lives in a foster home and isn't at the shelter, so a meet and greet must be scheduled!

Meet Gunner!

Fresh Start Training Program

Gunner is one of the best pups we’ve ever had the pleasure of caring for. He’s incredibly loving, does great in his crate (it’s his safe space), and adores his chew toys with the kind of passion usually reserved for peanut butter. He’s playful, snuggly, and full of silly antics that’ll keep you laughing.

But let’s be real, he’s still a puppy. That means he’ll chew things he shouldn’t, have zoomies at inconvenient times, and need guidance as he grows. He’s learning fast, and with your patience and love, he’ll grow into the kind of dog you’ll brag about for years.

Gunner is currently hanging out at the prison program because it's much safer for young pups!

If you’re ready for a little chaos, a lot of cuddles, and the joy of watching a great pup become an even greater dog, Gunner’s your guy.

Other dogs - Gunner is a young pup and most pups do great with other dogs. it'll be more about if your dog can handle the puppy energy level!

Meet Macho!

Macho is a social butterfly wrapped in fur, the kind of pup who trots right up to say hello like you’ve been friends forever. He’s sweet, affectionate, and full of playful energy, especially when there’s a tug toy or a chewy treat involved. Big fluffy blankets? He’s obsessed. Chews of any kind? Yes, please.

This little guy gets along well with other dogs and has lived peacefully with cats, though he’s more of a canine companion kind of dude. He loved playing tug with his dog buddies in his previous home and did great with their two kids, gentle, friendly, and always up for a snack. Macho walks well on leash and thrives on connection, cuddles, and activity.

Introducing Milly!

Milly came to us with four tiny pups, just a week old. She’s spent the last several weeks in a foster home, raising her babies and being the best momma. Now that they’re weaned and off on their own adventures, Milly’s ready to find a home of her own.

She’s fully house trained and has done great in her foster home. Milly can be shy at first and may take a little time to warm up, but once she does, she’s incredibly loyal and affectionate. She loves to be picked up and snuggled, and she’ll happily curl up in a soft bed or nuzzle her head into your neck for comfort. She’s a bit shy about quick movements so we think she’d do best in a home with older children that can be a bit more patient with her.

Milly’s looking for a calm, patient home where she can settle in at her own pace and enjoy the cozy life she deserves.

Approximate Birth Date - 09/14/2022

Size - Small (17lbs)

Likes - Snuggles, Cuddles and being the perfect lap dog.

Other dogs - Milly did great with other dogs here at the shelter but she definitely prefers a calmer dog that is going to be respectful of her space.

📣 Our 8th Annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser at Ann & Tony's Restaurant will be September 23rd, 24th & 25th!!!

Ann & Tony’s is encouraging our supporters to purchase their tickets as early as possible so that we can provide the restaurant an idea as to how many people will be participating. Thank you for understanding!

🎫 Tickets are $14 ea. and we have them in our office located at 2020 Plain City Georgesville Road in West Jefferson, OH.
Dinner includes spaghetti 🍝 with meat sauce, salad 🥗, and bread 🍞with butter. Gluten Free spaghetti and meatless sauce is available upon request.

This will be a 3-day event and it will be CARRYOUT AND CASH ONLY. Please bring your tickets with you to Ann & Tony’s between the hours of 4 & 7p to pick up your dinners.
