The shelter is supported by the Madison County Commissioners, Madison County Sheriff's office, donations, grants, fundraisers and adoptions.

Meet Our Featured Friend, Bailey!

This incredibly handsome and sweet boy is Bailey who has completed his Fresh Start Canine Training! Bailey made his way to our shelter after his owner could no longer care for him. Bailey is a Blue Merle Australian Cattle Dog and Terrier mix, currently weighing around 56lbs, with an estimated date of birth of March of 2021.
Bailey is the definition of a cuddle bug! If you have a lap or body he can lean against and just give him all the love and pets, he will be your best bud. For the most part he has a more calm and chill personality, and would enjoy his day lounging about on something soft. He is a typical dog though and loves to go outside for walks and playtime too! Bailey does great walking on leash from what our Staff and Volunteers say. He enjoys all the walks and buddy walks with his fur brother, Tazz, that he has been getting since arriving here. When he is on his buddy walks, we have noticed that he is more of the "leader" of the two and shows Tazz the ropes and what it means to be a dog. Although we have not introduced him to any of the other dogs here yet, since he has lived with one before we have high hopes that he would do just fine. But once we test him with other dogs we will update that information here. When it comes to living with cats, Bailey does prefer a feline free zone.
Bailey has worked on house training at his previous home and does a great job of keeping his kennel nice and tidy, even overnights when he has to hold it a bit longer than he is used to. Transitioning him to a new home and house training there should be pretty easy for him.

Meet Our Featured Friend, Panther!

Panther is a sweet, gentle guy that’s ready to find his forever home. Panther would be the perfect companion for an active person/family looking to have a dog for park trips & hiking. He’s super intelligent and food motivated, which will make training a breeze . He’s also great at keeping a tidy kennel and does lovely walking on a leash!

Size - Large (57lbs)
Likes - Puzzle toys, snuffle mats, long walks & running.
Other dogs - Panther hasn’t been dog tested here yet but we will update that information ASAP and welcome any questions you might have on the subject.
Panther would be best in a feline free home as he has a high prey drive and would likely be too much for a cat.
House training - Panther has kept a tidy kennel since arriving at our shelter 3 months ago so we believe he’s fully house broken and should adjust quickly given time to learn your routine.

Meet Our Featured Friend Bubba!

Bubba because that's the name I came with and Dewey because I have double dew claws. Have you ever heard of such a thing? I think it makes me quite unique. I'm 3 years old. I do have a bit of separation anxiety and I can be vocal about it. I calm down soon enough, but might not be well suited for apartment life.
I'm an outdoorsy kind of guy. I love to romp and wrestle in the back yard with the other dogs especially fellow foster Phil. He's my BFF! We are two pees in a pod and often times two dogs in a crate. Oh, we have our own crates, but sometimes we like to cuddle. I am also a sun worshiper. I will be the last dog in on a sunny day.
I'm housebroken and really good in my crate.. That's where I sleep at night, but if I had my way I would be sleeping in your bed. I think that might have something to do with why I am crated at night. Once I wasn't and the human woke up to find us sharing a pillow. I don't see a problem with that so added bonus if you're looking for a snuggle buddy.
I need some work on my leash manners, but other than that I am dang near perfect. I'm very treat motivated so training should be a snap.
My ideal home would be one with a canine sibling and toys, Lots and lots of toys. I would do best in a home with older kids. I wouldn't want to confuse my toys with the little people toys or worse them think my toys were theirs!

Our 2 senior yorkies were adopted this week🥰 Brought in as strays, these elderly sweethearts found a safe haven for their twilight years. Their new mom let us know she got them a heated bed and they are curled up together and happy as can be🥹🐾🐾 Thank you for choosing adoption and loving them❣️

This big girl is ready to find her forever home. Our volunteers and staff absolutely love to walk or spend time with Aztec, I’m sure any of them would tell you that she is calm, sweet and just wants love from her human and while she’s a big girl, she walks fantastic on a leash, loves a soft bed to land on at the end of the day and seems to be fully housebroken. Sometimes she gets a little jumpy but that’s mostly because she wants to give you a kiss!

Meet Our Featured Friend, Gabriel!

I am as angelic as my name suggests, I’m all sweet and a lotta handsome! ? I made my way to this shelter with my three siblings after our previous owner couldn’t care for us anymore. They did the most selfless act by ensuring we would be safe, well-cared for, and loved until we find our forever homes.

I’m the energetic one out of the bunch, always ready for an adventure! Leash walking is new to me, but I’m making great progress thanks to the wonderful volunteers here. I love going on several walks a day and showing off my affectionate side by giving hugs (though I’m still learning not to stand on my hind legs).

I adore my off-leash time in the fenced dog run, and my favorite game is tug with any toy – I’m not picky! I would thrive with an active person or family who can give me daily enrichment, both physical and mental. Snuffle mats and puzzle toys are my jam when I’m chilling indoors.

I’m doing a great job keeping my kennel clean, which tells everyone I might have some housetraining experience. I do have the occasional overnight accident, but that’s just because I’m holding it longer than I would in a home.

I’ve met a few other shelter dogs and get along great with those similar in size to me. I’m going to be a wonderful companion for whoever is lucky enough to add me to their family.

Forest was adopted in June into the most amazing family and he has had a great summer! We miss him and are so happy for him at the same time!

WE HAVE A MCGRIFF UPDATE! Just a little 1yr update on McGriff..... I think he's still happy here. Oh my gosh and his personality....he's still learning new things...took forever to convince him it was okay to go down the basement stairs. Now he wont stop. Too bad I cant teach him to load the washer.....or can I???...Trying different foods has been fun. I think he thinks we're trying to poison him. Dude! Its peanut butter! I swear! Dad has taught him to smile when he gets belly rubs. Try to get pictures, but he seems to know and instantly hams it up. We have nightly races to see who gets to lay on mom's side of the bed. You can guess who loses every time, lol! #hsmcohio
