Furgiven Animal Sanctuary (“FAS”) is a nonprofit, no-kill organization that is dedicated to creating second, second-chance opportunities for overlooked dogs. Our focus lies in partnering with public shelters to prevent the euthanasia of dogs and local no-kill shelters by transitioning their long-term, left-behind dogs to a sanctuary where they can be a priority regardless of age, breed, or ease of

placement. At FAS, we believe that providing a more intimate, individual atmosphere for dogs in these specific circumstances increases their chances of finding forever homes while promoting the animal-human bond within our community of the Greater Midsouth & Tri-State area. In addition to being a sanctuary for dogs overlooked, FAS assists (through scheduled events) with free or discounted veterinary services, low-cost spay/neuter clinics, and training support services for current or future pet owners and advocates. Our comprehensive adoption process and support services promote thoughtful, healthy relationships among animals and adopters and offer lifetime support to our residents. Animals in our care are spayed/neutered and receive all necessary treatments, vaccinations, and veterinary care for the duration of their time with us, regardless of adoption status.

THE DIFFERENCE OF 24 HOURS 💙

Suzy’s transformation over the last 24 hours since her entry to care has been incredible. It’s hard to believe that it’s the same dog side by side. We went to the vet this morning and are so happy to share that she was able to come back to Furgiven with us. She is being treated for ear infections, flea allergy dermatitis, will need to have a mass removed, and eventually be vaccinated and spayed once she is healthy enough. Her bloodwork results will be back tomorrow and should give us a baseline to go off of for next steps.

EMERGENCY INTAKE - DONATIONS NEEDED 🚨

Meet Suzy, our newest intake, who came to us unexpectedly in deplorable shape this morning. We couldn’t turn her away and immediately rushed her into the vet where she is currently being assessed. Her condition has been shocking to our team.

She has extreme matting, that has completely encased one her eyes and created painful areas all over her body. The smell is indescribable.

BEA - BRINGING JOY 💜

This sweet girl has been blossoming in her foster placement and is looking for a forever home. We asked her what her requests are from her forever family, and this is what she told us:

BARTLETT - ADOPT ME ❤️🐾

Bartlett went on an adventure with us to downtown Memphis this morning! She visited the dog park, sat with us while we got our coffee, and had a blast walking around Main Street. Check out our stories for videos of her!

A VERY SPECIAL GIRL - BEA

If you’re looking for a story to warm your heart today, let it be our update on Bea 🧡

Bea’s life is suspected to have begun as a homeless dog, where she ran the streets until entering rescue care, four years ago. She spent two years in a shelter, before coming to us at Furgiven, where she has spent the last two years awaiting a family to choose her.

Bea is a very special girl. She is kind, timid, and ultra sweet. Life on the street did not make her hard, but we know it was scary for her gentle soul. She approaches with caution and bows her head to receive tiny head scratches. As her confidence grows, and before you know it, she is running over for love. She is quick to startle and looks over to her people for reassurance as needed, with little tail wags of love.

There are so many things that Bea has never had the chance to experience, until now. This week, Bea entered a foster placement, and she has shown an entirely new side of her personality. Our hearts have easily grown three sizes.

We’ve learned our sweet Bea, adores the couch. She rolls around on her back on the crunchy leaves in the backyard and she naps in all the comfy places around the house she can find. Because she’s relaxed. Comfortable. At ease.

She has slept soundly in her crate at night, and has yet to have even a single bathroom accident in the house. She has had so many “firsts”, the sounds of a television, blow dryer, the smell of dinner being cooked, etc., and she’s shown us that not only is she ready for it, she’s thriving in a home environment. To say we are proud of her is beyond an understatement.

Bea’s ready to be adopted. She deserves not just a foster home, but a forever family, with her people. Her ideal family will understand that what will start as gentle cowers will take time to build trust into full body tail wags. She is a homebody (Netflix buddy anyone?), who likes to go for walks, and would love to have another dog to play with.

REGGIE - ADOPTED 🎉💙

Our sanctuary meatball has officially found his perfect forever home, and hit the road to Canada yesterday. He’s headed to Saskatchewan, to be loved on by a wonderful family. He spent yesterday eating all of the extra snacks, getting extra cuddles and having the last couple play groups with his friends.

Congratulations Reggie! We can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures.

BARTLETT - LOOKING FOR A HOME 🐾💙

Ready to be impressed? Swipe to see the joy that is walking with this sweet girl! Bartlett is four months old and has been working extra hard at her basic obedience training. We are so proud of how well she’s doing! She now proudly shows off her “sit”, “down” and enjoys a relaxed leash walk.

Bartlett is very food and praise motivated, which makes training with her a breeze! She loves to be held, or to lay on your lap, and will quickly doze off if given the chance.

She enjoys spending time outside, playing with toys, and in typical puppy fashion, adores attention from people. She will be a wonderful addition to a family!

LITTLE FOOT - LOOKING FOR A HOME 🐾

Starting off your morning with this adorable girl, who has been making us all smile nonstop since her arrival at Furgiven. Little Foot is nine weeks old, weighs 8 pounds, and loves having a lap to lay on. She melts in your arms when you pick her up, and will happily snuggle for as long as you’re willing.

She’s found her favorite toy already, a pink Kong, which she happily parades around for everyone to see while enjoying time outside. She loves to roll in the grass and shows excellent training potential with how food motivated she is.

This sweet girl has age appropriate shots, is microchipped, dewormed, and will go out on a spay contract. She is accepting applications from across the US.

DUCKY - LOOKING FOR A HOME 🐾❤️

If you missed our latest video, Ducky is one of two adorable little puppies to have joined us in care at Furgiven! He was found stray a week and a half ago and after spending the last little while at our local shelter, has since stolen our hearts with his arrival. This tiny pumpkin is extra snuggly and absolutely loves being held.

Ducky is 7 weeks old, male, weighs 8 pounds, and is cute as a button. His coat is velvet soft and he’s got four white socks on his paws! He has had age appropriate vaccines, is microchipped, dewormed and will be adopted out on a neuter contract.

NEW INTAKE - ROCCO 🐾

RAISED: $100 of $1500 goal

Our newest intake, Rocco, has rolled his way straight into Furgiven and all our hearts. This little guy has quite the story and has faced some major challenges already in his young life.

Rocco initially ended up in shelter care in Indiana after his owner left him with a roommate and moved out. The roommate was then spotted tying Rocco to a tree with a note indicating he was unable to continue caring for him. The shelter quickly intervened and gathered as much info on little Rocco as they could. They learned some of the hardships that Rocco has experienced, that he can be slow to warm up, but is the sweetest little guy once he learns it’s safe to open up.

Rocco has shown us nothing but his sweetness since arriving into care. He loves a good lap snuggle. Mobility wise, he is partially paralyzed, and has quite a few wounds on his hind legs that are in the process of healing. He has since been fit with all of his adaptive gear, including a wheelchair, that will allow him to experience the world with his disability completely accommodated. He LOVES being in his wheels and is already a pro at zooming around.

Donations towards his care will help us cover his ongoing medical care, and rehabilitation needs. We have opted to begin with having spinal x-rays done immediately to help us better understand his trauma history.

Nugget and Bartlett Meet! Nugget is one of our sanctuary dogs who has cerebellar hypoplasia or CH. It causes his body language to be “different”, he moves with more exaggerated movements. While he loves to meet everyone, it’s completely understandable that not all dogs know how to read his body language. Bartlett understood right away that Nugget is a bundle of playful love, and is now his new buddy! They will now enjoy playgroups together outside. #friends #nugget #bartlett #dogfriends

Brie arrived into care Monday this week. We immediately took her into the vet because she was showing signs of a UTI. Now she is on her third day of meds and feeling SO much better already. We will go back in two weeks to confirm it has cleared up. Its been amazing getting watching her come out of her shell and show her sweet personality. We LOVE her already and know you all will too! Yogi is such a special dude. He has been in a care for a couple months undergoing HW treatments and working on losing a few pounds. He was found stray in Mississippi when trying to break into a Pizza Hut. He was HW positive and pushing close to 40 lbs. Last month he finished his HW treatments and is weighing over 10 lbs less!!!
