We are open from 9-3 every other Saturday but these appointments are not available online and are generally pre-booked out for 6 months. We groom between 5-7 cats a day. We are NOT a high volume shop and we are booked out 6-8 weeks for appointments. We only accepts new customers freely in January and February, after that, the cat must be referred by a vet due to health or age issues or by another groomer who was unable to groom the cat.
Cat Around Town will be closed for grooming from Sept 1st until September 10th. Justine will return on 9/11.
Appointment making will be disabled during this time.
The phone will not accept any messages.
I will be out of town and will not be taking the appointment book with me.

We lost power at the shop at 8pm. My 8pm was a matted Lion cut. Between 3 pair of cordless clippers (that are always only half charged because I forget to put them on the charger), and the light coming in from the front door and the exit signs, I completed the groom. I couldn’t bathe it, but at least I got the shave done.

In addition to grooming and boarding, I sometimes have groomers from other salons visit to shadow me so I can show them different tools and techniques.
On Tuesday I had 3 groomers travel from another state to visit so I had to represent for 412. I treated them to what I refer to as the “Steel City Breakfast of Champions”.
Who can guess what 2 Pittsburgh specific delicacies are on this plate?

That’s what I have been making.
We now have a a new doorbell in the front lobby and one at the door to the grooming room that will record motion and notify me when someone rings the bell. We have two screens that will alert us to your presence when you ring the bell so I don’t have to carry my phone or iPad everywhere.
It has been very hard for me to adjust to saying I instead of We so the “We” that I am now referring to is Jazzy, Piggy, Mia and myself.
I am currently having technical difficulties with the salon phone. The error code states that the recording memory is full even though I have cleared the messages. We were having some electrical issues and that may have caused it, or Jazzy, Piggy or Mia may have walked on the phone in an effort to destroy it. So, if any of our CURRENT customers need to each me, you can text 412-626-PURR. I’m hoping to have a new phone by next week. This number is only for texting, does not receive phone calls and is for CURRENT customers only. We are still not accepting new customers.

Feral only! Time to TNR!
Starting on February 1st, 2024 we are offering feral walk-ins Monday through Friday! This is a pilot program, that will last until February 29th.
No appointment necessary. In order for your cat to qualify they MUST be transported in a transfer cage and/or humane trap. They also MUST be getting an ear-tip.
Drop-off is from 7:45am to 8:30am at our office in Allison Park. The cats will either be done in our office or transported to our clinic for the day.
The package price is $90 and includes rabies 1 year vaccine, FVRCP vaccine, flea treatment, ear mite treatment, an ear tip, and Profender.
I’m over the new year and onto whatever holiday brings us closer to Spring.

I didn’t take a ton of pictures this month but here are some of our kitty Christmas glamour shots and a few happy boarding customers.
We only board our own customers.
We are closed for grooming until 2024. I will be in for several hours every day to care for the boarding cats and give them all attention.
C.A.T Grooming will be closed for grooming for the holidays from Sunday December 24 until Monday January 1st. C.A.T Grooming will reopen on Tuesday January 2nd. Justine will still be in twice a day, every day (even on Christmas) to care for the cats that are boarding during the holidays.
IN ADDITION:
There is going to be a change in our operating procedures as Justine will now be grooming solo. Actually, I have been grooming solo and for the last 2 weeks and with a few minor adjustments, it has been going so well that I have no plans to hire a new assistant/groomer. But for this same reason we will not be accepting ANY new customers in the near future. Any requests for an exception will not be acknowledged.
The weirdest part has changing from "We" to "I", but as Jazzy and Mia are technically working cats I suppose I can still use the term "We". So, "We" wish you a happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous new year. Piggy is just our permanent squatter and doesn't care about anyone.

It took me a month to post this because I wanted to be able to explain this appropriately and I needed time to think of the right words to do so.
I had been hearing about the fear free movement and the only way that I could get an exact understanding of what it was all about was to complete the course, which I did.
Let me make something very clear. It does NOT mean that your cat will have a completely fear free experience. That’s impossible for some cats. It does mean the we understand the signs of fear and anxiety in your cat and we will work with the to get the best response from them. We know how to assess your cats scale of fear, anxiety and stress and we know techniques to de-escalate that. It’s basically what we have always done and strived for. Now we just have a piece of paper saying that we understand it.
I’m not posting about this to promote ourselves but I did add it to the wall so I wanted to explain why it’s there and what it means.
We have all our certificates of achievement on the wall as soon as you walk in the front door so that you can see our proof of education as soon as you walk in our door and also because we are very proud of our accomplishments.
We are always striving to continue our education and to keep up with new techniques and tools and to provide your cat with the best experience and level of service that we can.

HCMT is selling shelters this Monday, November 13, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. Location: 322 Braddock Ave. Braddock, PA 15104. We are on the corner of Braddock Ave. and 4th Street. We will be on the side of the building on 4th St. in front of the black garage doors.
The shelters have two entrances, removable flaps, and include straw. There is one cooler inside a plastic storage tote. One large cat can comfortably fit inside a shelter. Two smaller cats who love each other will be able to snuggle comfortably.
They are $35/each.

I love Halloween! For anyone who has been wondering about my recent hair color change, I was Beatrix Kiddo for Halloween and my wonderful hubby obliged me by being one of the Crazy 88. IYKYK.

We have been in love with Jamie Lee since she first came in for a nail trim April 2023 so we really want to help her get adopted.
She is a 1 year old Mau, originally from Oman who has been waiting for her forever home at Ricki's Rescue. She lives there with a lot of other cats and she would love to be in her forever home where she can be the Star of her own movie.
She doesn’t love to be held but she loves to be loved. As a Mau, she’s active, but not destructive. She’s vocal but not a scream Queen. She does get along with other cats.
She doesn’t have hot dog fingers (That is an Everything, Everywhere all at once reference) she is fully clawed so we are offering free nail trims for life to anyone who adopts her.
She does have crossed eyes and a tiny scar on her eye that does not require treatment at this point. Her adoption fee is sponsored.

Maine C**n Iggy Pop was such a good boy for his first “intro to professional grooming” visit. He has a real “Lust for life” and was playing with toys while we finished the drying process. Iggy is only 5 months old. He’s gonna be a BIG boy.
The “Court room” will be off limits this week. We will show you how to get to the grooming room if you have an appt this week.
I’m re-doing the floor. Apparently “Behr Granite Grip” which is so tough it can be used on garage floors that get gas and oil on them can’t stand up to the amazing, corrosive qualities of cat puke. Even after we clean it up, it still stains the floor. It drives me nuts so I’m redoing it.
Trust me - the finished product is going to look way better.
Also, perks of having been a dog groomer and still having some equipment means I can make that big blue dryer make the paint dry faster.

Kitten Spotlight: Tiger We still have 4 kittens we need homes for. Tux, Tiger and Bart are 6 moth old brothers. Coco is an 8 month old female tortie. All of them are UTD on vacs, Felv - and spayed/neutered. Adoption fee is $150 and that just goes to cover the cost of the vacs/neuter. They are available through Pam Roudebush Amicarella. She is in charge of their adoptions. Tiger is the sweetest of the bunch right now. He said, “If you wont pet me I’ll pet myself!” He would rather be pet than eat canned food with his brothers. He just loves attention and would love to be in a home where he could get more.

Our 2 juvenile fosters are still available. They do not have to go together but we would love it if they could because they truly do you love each other. BJ is such a good big brother to the other kittens that we are fostering and this is him teaching the other kittens to play with a hex bug. Bj is the tabby and Nyx is the black cat. I honestly adore them both. They both like other cats. Bj doesn’t even get angry when the kittens chase his big floof tail. Please keep in mind that we only foster cats for other people who rescue cats or rescue groups when we have space. We do not except cats that have been found by individuals that are not involved in a foster program.
Bj and Nyx still need homes! Please share! BJ is truly the quintessential cat and it does take him a little bit of time to warm up but once he does he is the biggest lovable Butthead ever and Lil Nyx is a sweatheart too. They are honestly the type of cats that I would keep if I had room but I already have five cats at home and my husband has laid down a four cat limit so I’m one over my max. 😂
BJ and Nyx are still looking for their forever homes. They are bonded but could go separately. Nyx is a little shy at first but is very sweet and craves attention and loves.
Our foster BJ is available for adoption. He’s a “tree cat” and enjoys climbing things and being annoyingly adorable.
