FOR ADOPTION! Note: Only those with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY:
PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying:
DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application

Arella aka Baby Girl (female)
Intake date: 11/19/2022
Pomeranian
DOB 4/27/2011
17.4 pounds
Adoption fee: $125, which includes vetting, microchip and microchip enrollment fee

Good with other dogs: yes
Cats: yes

Vetting and other: altered (spayed/neutered), up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention, microchipped

Health issues: chronic allergies – currently is getting once-a-month allergy shot (was taken off of Apoquel as over time, it loses it’s ability to battle allergies and things need to change up); we recommend adopter try Cytopoint injection as it works well on allergies – her coat is kept short to help with the allergies; She’s also on Science Diet Digestive Care food because she sometimes gets an upset tummy – we recommend putting her on a daily Probiotic (you can find them on Amazon) – it’s possible putting her on a Probiotic will eliminate her having to be on Digestive Care food and switch to a limited ingredient food for her allergies.

Temperament: quiet and sweet natured

Energy level: low

Groom needs: High; requires regular professional grooming to keep her coat short; she’s super cute with her lion cut

Biography: Arella is an owner-surrender. Sadly, her owner is elderly and going into a nursing home. We sent someone to pick her up and it was a very sad situation as her owner cried letting her go. She keeps her coat cut short because Arella has chronic allergies that flare up especially during spring and summer. She has a sensitive stomach as well and is on special food. Some things we were told about her: She’s used to being in a calm home with two other dogs. She was housetrained until the owner got to where she couldn’t get around very well anymore. She will need retraining. She’s used to sleeping beside the owner’s bed. She travels well and walks well on a leash. She is responsive. Bad weather and fireworks don’t affect her much. She is not destructive. She does well during grooming sessions. She is the sweetest little girl whose world has been turned upside down. Arella is looking for a loving, quiet home where the owner is home more often than not. If that’s you, we welcome your application.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule.

*Most of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule!

*PREDATORS: IF THIS DOG IS UNDER 10 POUNDS, the dog is to be monitored and protected when outside at all times! PREDATOR-THREAT IS A REAL DANGER! For example, a hawk tried to pick up a Chihuahua owned by a friend visiting Ninna’s house… RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE VISITOR. Thankfully the visitor was watching the dog and the hawk was wrestled off of the Chihuahua but it did require an ER visit and she is was very lucky to survive. TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!

*NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents.

*HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency.

*KENNELING: We always recommend kenneling when you cannot supervise your dog. This helps with housetraining and any destructive tendencies until you get to know your knew addition.

*We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate.

*Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee.

Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue primarily small-breed dogs and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. DOG APPLICATION LINK: http://www.roadtorescuela.org/dog-application
Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply.
Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption NOR does it guarantee the adoption.

CONTACT: Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet... OR still have questions AFTER reading this profile, message us via our page. Please indicate the name when communicating with us.

When my dad’s beloved wife, Noelle was alive, she took great pride in keeping their dogs’ hair long. She brushed them out each and every morning, putting their “bangs” in adorable little ponytails so that they could see.

Not long before she passed away, she told a friend that my dad would probably have to cut their hair after she was gone. “He’ll have to get them puppy cuts,” she said. “There’s no way he’s going to keep up with brushing them every morning.”

What she didn’t know was that those dogs would mean everything to him. That they would be his company, his security, his comfort. And that because they would be the last living vestige of her, he would do everything humanly possible to care for them just as she did, to honor her by loving them.

Every single day since she died, without fail, my dad has put the boys up on the bed. He’s brushed them out. Put their hair in ponytails. Every single day.

My dad is going into the hospital this morning to have his hip replaced. He’ll be fine, but he won’t be home for a couple of days. Which is why this morning, he walked me through the process. He showed me exactly what he says and what he does and where the “right” treats are. He showed me where he keeps the pony tail holders and how many times to twist them.

I took notes. I snapped photos. I wrote down “twist 3 times.”

Because those dogs meant everything to Noelle and now they mean everything to my dad. So they mean everything to me.

He’ll be fine. And while he’s away, they will too.

{image is a photo of my dad brushing out Gordon, while his brother, Flash, waits his turn in the background. They are Havanese. Flash is black with a white streak and Gordon is white with touches of grey.}

Basset Hound Warranty

Dear Customer,
Congratulations on acquiring your Basset Hound dog. Please find the instructions for your model listed below:

Although your Basset comes fully assembled, due to particular issues during production, we do occasionally have issues with components such as screws. They invariably are either loose or missing altogether.

Mode 1: This is the sleep mode, activated for the majority of the day as the Basset ages. This is normal and you should not worry about it, just accept the peace and quiet while you can.

Mode 2: Psycho. Although we have tried to ease the effect of the Psycho mode, it’s not always possible. There are a few issues with the timer settings of the Psycho mode in regard to there being none. Should your Basset suddenly go from comatose to running around the walls, we cannot stop this feature.

Sunlight: Do not allow your Basset to stay in the sun too long. They can burn if left unattended, but they also recharge. Too much of a charge and mode 2 can be activated without warning.

Energy consumption: This has been an ongoing issue as their energy consumption is constant. We have tried to put baffles, non-return valves and diversions in place but none seem to work adequately. Safe to say what goes in comes out, in both solids and gas. The gas, although noxious, can only inhibit breathing of the owner for up to ten minutes.

Naming: Your Basset comes untitled as we feel owners should use names of their own. If you are unsure, we have listed below a few names our owners like to use:

You’re kidding me
Is that yours?
Don’t you dare
Leave it
OMFG
Put that down
Why?
Get that out of your mouth

The zipper: We ask you not to try to open the Basset Hound zipper on their belly as this will invalidate your one hour warranty. Rumors that they are merely toddlers in a dog suit is highly contested.

Software: Your Basset is pre-installed with the highest software and hardware. This includes the loyalty chip, the love everyone chip, fun chip and, of course, the highly popular mayhem chip. They are all running on the What the hell operating system 12.2. Although this has been in circulation for many years, we have found it simply cannot be improved upon.

Should you have any queries you can reach us on 118-what-did-I-do

Thank you.

We hope you have many years of enjoyment with your Basset Hound. Please be aware that by the time you have read this, your warranty will have run out.
Unfortunately, we do not renew warranties and we do not offer refunds or returns...ever. It’s your problem now.
