CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU TO LARISSA!

Larissa has been a part of our team since the very beginning. She has served in every position imaginable here at West Newton Animal Clinic, and most recently as our office manager and lead surgery technician. She is expecting a baby very soon, and will be taking some time off to enjoy her growing family.

We are taking time to congratulate her and her family on their new arrival! We also want to thank her for all of her years of hard work and for the care she has shown for the doctors, staff, clients and patients of our hospital. Finally, in the future, we are hopeful that she will return to work in our surgery department, at least part time, and we will keep everyone posted.

Meet Sky!

Sky is a beautiful, almost 10 year old female spayed chocolate Lab. She was once a normal, healthy and very active Labrador Retriever, but as she has aged, arthritis has set in and she has become very stiff and painful at times. It has gotten to the point now that she is very reluctant to walk up or downstairs and refuses to walk on hardwood floors. She belongs to one of our Client Service Representatives, Danielle, that works at our front desk taking care of our many patients and their owners. Danielle has kept Sky at a healthy weight and offers her regular exercise appropriate for her age, however Sky continues to grow more painful and less mobile.

Sky used to respond well to an anti-inflammatory medication that our doctors prescribed for her, however, the medication does not seem to be helping her much now at all.

Danielle recently decided to try a newer medication called Librela that we have been administering at our clinic to some of our patients. It is given as an injection usually every month and we have seen great success using it as well as no report of side effects to this point.

Librela blocks a chemical messenger called nerve growth factor, or NGF, which sends pain signals to the brain. By blocking NGF, bedinvetmab stops the sensation of joint pain in dogs due to osteoarthritis. Librela is the first monoclonal antibody approved by the FDA to treat chronic arthritis pain in dogs.

We are excited to see how this medication will help Sky and we are excited to share more information and success stories with you as time goes on. Please watch our FB page to keep track of Sky's progress.

As a bonus, the company that makes Librela, Zoetis, has made us aware that in the very near future they are adding Librela to their existing rewards program that some of our clients already participate in. This program allows for great savings as clients purchase various so it is products.

Please be aware of how the recent intense summer heat effects our dogs. Imagine wearing a fursuit during the summer months! Make sure you provide lots of cool water to drink and exercise them only during the coolest part of the day, either early morning or late evening. And remember certain breeds tolerate the heat better than others.

A kind gentleman brought in a medium sized, male neutered, black and white, wire hair dog today. It had a black collar and purple leash. Sadly he appears to have been hit and is deceased. If you are the owner or know them please contact us.
We will hold him for the next week to try to locate the owners. His microchip was registered to a shelter in NYC.

***Teddy is home!!!***
Thank you everyone for sharing!

No sighting since 10:13pm. The owner is still out looking.

Update: As of 10:13pm he was seen near Willbrook Farms which is closer to the winery.

This cute guy is Teddy and he got loose from Markle Rd in Rostraver Township. He’s very friendly. He could be anywhere in that area right now. It’s between Vinosky Winery and the Rostraver Ice Rink. Please share so we can get this sweet guy home. Please contact Joelene Petrick or the clinic if you see him.
