11 years ago - today we closed escrow and received the keys to our new mountain home adventure with plans of goats grazing our property.
We decided to say goodbye to city life and brave a new way of life and honestly, it really has been a gigantic beautiful adventure!
Our new home was a gigantic fixer upper, I was laid off from the hospice I worked at, Cory was commuting 3 + hours round trip making his days extremely long.
We have always been dreamers but most importantly doers! We always knew God was leading us somewhere to grow the plans we made. To conquer those mountains that seemed so big and God brought OFP into our life!
We traveled constantly - did every show and farmers market possible. It was exhausting but 9 of 10 times very rewarding!
Cory came from a family with an incredible work ethic, I always had a dream to own my own business. Our combined strengths and great compatibility made our dreams very colorful therefore always striving to meet that next goal.
It’s not always easy - sometimes it feels kind of lonely and isolated.
Being a business owner and farmer in these past several years has had tremendous challenges and some times want to quit.
But I’m not a quitter and Cory has never thrown in the town on anything!
So 11 years ago we moved to our mountain home and we do not plan on quitting any tunes soon.

To sum this up, God has always been in control! He’s the center of our lives and even though we do not give Him the credit and love He deserves, there’s always a point when we come back to Him, fall on our knees and praise Him for the strength, the bad times, the good times, the lessons, and the many blessings He has brought our way and theblessings on their way!

Thank you Lord for 11 great years living among your trees and allowing us to be the stewards of a beautiful herd of goats and so thankful for OFP!
God - you are wonderful!

OFP IS NOWHERE NEAR THIS 🔥
Many of our customers/followers have reached out asking if we are ok.
We are fine but Los Angeles area is not!
Please pray for Angels and the surrounding areas..this fire is devastating and if you have lived anywhere in California for the last 12 years you know the anxiety.
California cares more about a spotted owl and the value of a tree than it does human life..
These fires have destroyed more lives and homes than can be quantified.
Forcing out natural eco systems if they survive.
It’s a backwards world but in the meantime… please for those dear human souls who are literally abandoned their homes, cars and are literally running for their lives!

Thank you Papa Farmer..
I CANNOT say enough about this man! He is my rock and my safe place.
These past couple of weeks…no months have been incredibly tough!
We were wondering what we should do as a company and as a farm.
Everything seemed to hinge on results!
These past 2 weeks was a continuous limbo state with sleepless nights, low sales and tension!
It hasn’t been easy keeping OFP alive, feeding goats, paying house payment size PG&E bills, etc but we continued to believe.
Well, Cory did!!
He kept encouraging and telling me to just hang on and that God wouldn’t have brought us this far to leave us..
These past 2-3 weeks we worked incredibly long hours, stocked up, stocked shelves in preparation…
I tried to stay positive but some days..it was just too hard.
Human nature took over and I cried.

November 5th happened and then November 6th happened!!!
The decision was made and we are currently overwhelmed with 354 orders in ONE DAY!!!

ONE DAY!!!

All of that hard work is paying off!

My back hurts and I am emotionally and physically exhausted but I look at Cory and I am so thankful!

He gets up early, does farm chores, helps with order, product making, does evening farm chores, runs errands and then stays up late if necessary helping with business!

Thank you Cory for the hugs this morning, the encouragement and for just being my constant!

In the mean time, orders are being processed will ALL be out by Monday and Tuesday!!

Heartbreaking!! No other words to express the horrific videos, photos and reports coming out of NC and surrounding areas!
I’ve heard reports of re**er trucks just stacked with bodies still unclaimed and whatever reports you’re hearing on the news to add a couple zeros to that number!
God! I feel so helpless and useless! My heart just hurts so much for these folks.
Please God help us all to want to help our brothers and sisters…
We, here at OFP have been working on some incredible care packages to go out soon.
We reached out to and of LFA TV to get the word out.

Thank you Jesus…So far we have raised $1000 in donations toward the care packages.
We, being a small business, it’s not easy to send out 100 or more fully loaded care packages.
Not only are we shy of funds but hands to help make, pack and send packages are few.

But we are determined!!!
God has blessed us with so much and so many have lost loved ones, homes and I just can’t fathom how they are emotionally.

The care packages are going to churches in the area where I have connections and I will post that soon.
I have helpers ready to receive the packages and distribute to the folks who need them..

If you would like to help, we are currently making product, gathering the supplies we know that are needed and will be sending out!

I am thankful for every single donation ranging from $10 to $100. And also thankful for the folks who appreciate that every cent counts..

We at estimating the total cost of these boxes to cost around $10,000
We realize this is a drop in the bucket to the amount of people who need so much but we will prayerfully proceed and pray Gods direction and assistance along the way

And we continued to pray for the folks in North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida

20 plus years ago I was honored to receive a hand me down electric skillet from s Meemaw - Alva!
I have used this skillet more than I can possibly remember. It has friend potatoes, steaks, home grown veges and even early Saturday morning pancakes by our 8 year old daughter who loved to get up early and surprise us with breakfast.

What struck me today was that between Corys Meemaw and my MomMom (Ethel) we had the best examples of what it means to be good caretakers of our family!

Meemaw and MomMom were both wagon wheel travelers to California. They were both savvy gardeners, bakers, seamstresses, Bible readers, singers, stretch a dollar survivors - knowing how to make all of this happen in a day and effortlessly make you feel like you were their whole world!

If there were ever examples of how to accomplish all of these things - it was those two.

Poor as poor could be but immensely rich with love, patience, understanding, grace and all with home made ice cream! 😂

I am a GiGi and I only pray to be like these two pillars who led by an example I can only aspire to be.

So - thank you Meemaw for the skillet that is affectionately known as Meemaws skillet. That still works and feeds us today and thank you MomMom for the summers of learning to get up early, cook while it’s still cool and for being my guidepost!

I love and miss you both!!

Today my heart hurts a little 💔actually a lot!
Our beloved Ginger Snap has passed on.

While I try to act strong and talk myself into the fact that she was ‘just’ an animal I type through the tears knowing she was so much more than that! At least to me.
She was a queen!!
The oldest of all of our goats.
She was the first to kid at OFP and she is the one who taught me how to be a goat mom.
She was 1/2 Nubian and produced a good supply of milk for me to learn goats milk products.
So you see…in many ways..I owe so much to her!

Ginger was the best mom to all her kids and my goodness her tribe has grown.

Over the last couple of years she had begun to slow down and didn’t travel too much with the others..
We treated her and gave her all of the proper supplements to encourage weight gain and good health but over the last few weeks we saw a significant decline.
Just 2 days ago I went down to our lower meadows and she was having a great time browsing and eating her share of the fields.
Last evening Cory had a hard time getting her up the hill, carrying her and assisting her to the barn and this morning she passed.

I sat in the barn with her for awhile today, singing to her like I do with a lot of my goats..
I promised her she would always be the queen of OFP and will always be cherished and loved!

I’m going to miss you Queen Ginger Snap!

God is still in charge!

I know through all of the uncertainty, chaos, strife and noise it’s hard to fathom how God is still ultimately in control.

I can only speak for myself but I know the news can be overwhelming.
I enjoy politics. I’ve always been a critical thinker. I can remember one of my 9th grade teachers telling me I should be a detective when I grow up! 😂😂

As a kid, I Nancy Drew, Hardy boys and even Sherlock Holmes (my mother hid them from me because assuming they were too graphic but I found them)

But the one book I never read enough of was the Bible. I can’t understand why!
It’s full of intrigue, love, friendships, wars, survival and romance

These days, more than ever, I need His words in my life. To guide me, comfort me, heal me, strengthen me and just…love me!

This world is aching for Him even if there are those who understand that or not.
Ecclesiastes warns us ‘What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.’

Daniel 2 states ‘God sets up king and he takes them down’

Philippians encourages us. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Galatians 6 comforts us: Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Finally
Matthew 10:29-31 not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

I do not know who needed to read this. Perhaps it was only for me..
But I do know that whatever happens in these next months, whoever wins the elections, blue or red, it’s important to know and love Jesus.
The signs of the times are here and earth groans for His return.

Galatians 6:7 “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”

He’s in control and keeps excellent records!
God encourages us to “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. Matt: 5:44

SMALL FARM * BIG LOVE So many years when we began this journey and I didn’t know just how much love needed to go into this farm. Work..yes! But the love part came after. Over the years we have worked with so many amazing and incredible people because of our farm that we come to love! And in all honesty, it’s been a complete God thing. I worked SO HARD to ‘make it happen’ and then I FINALLY just let go and ‘let God’. Cory and I cannot do this without Him!
