In the past we helped a dying kitten whose owner was on disability and had no funds as well as several other animals who were in dire need of medical care. And we are always inspired to keep doing more when we get thank-you letters like this one, that said in part:

“Ruby and I want to thank you so much for your assistance. Ruby is a rescue and had a very difficult and abusive first couple of years. Since I live on Social Security I was having difficulty getting funds together to take her to the vet. Fortunately a friend told me about Shakespeare.”

For many people their pets are their only family, and a constant source of unconditional love. We believe no one should ever have to choose between taking care of their four-footed family member or putting food on the table.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Holiday Pet Pageant on Saturday. It was a lot of fun, but more importantly the funds raised will help provide animals in Alachua County with emergency veterinary care.

Thank you for supporting the mission of Shakespeare Animal Fund!

Help people like Richard when you donate on Dec. 3, GivingTuesday

"I am a US Army Combat Veteran from Iraq and have a service dog for my PTSD. She has suffered a severe injury from a fall. She was going down a flight of stairs and lost her footing which caused her to fall down the stairs. She was unable to walk so I took her to the vet and they took 3 xrays which showed no breaks but after an exam it was determined she ripped her CCL on her right back leg. She is a Saint Bernard that weighs 125 lbs.

I am writing your organization because I am desperate... Any help that your organization can offer would be greatly appreciated."

💙 Here's a heartwarming story...

A very low-income and partially housed veteran was in need of major surgery. He refused to receive the surgery until he knew his beloved dog was being cared for. With the help of a social worker and the local Animal Services arrangements were made for the dog's boarding.

When the dog came in to boarding, he had a hidden foxtail that flared, and needed to be surgically removed. The proper care was provided.

Knowing the plight of the veteran's situation, an anonymous donor made a contribution to Shakespeare Animal Fund to cover the cost of the dog's procedure.

We are so grateful to see kindness on a regular basis. Whether you donate $2 or $200 your contribution makes a difference. Thank you for helping us to help others!\

🐾How it works...
Pet owners contact Shakespeare Animal Fund through our crisis hotline (775) 342-7040 or by email at [email protected].
Once the pet owner's eligibility is determined the Shakespeare coordinator contacts your vet detailing the amount we can pay towards your pet's treatment. After your pet is seen, the owner signs a confirmation which is returned to Shakespeare. We pay the veterinarian directly and no one is ever asked to pay us back.

A large group of the pet owners Shakespeare helps are elderly and disabled. These are some of the most vulnerable members of our society. These are also the people who need their pets the most, and this is where Shakespeare can make the most difference in the lives of both the pet and its owner!
