Years ago, shortly after my dad had died, I was interviewed for a newspaper article on why I founded Shakespeare Animal Fund.
I made the mistake of saying that I didn’t cry at my dad’s funeral, but I was so distraught when my cocker spaniel Shakespeare died that I couldn’t even find my way home from the veterinarian who had to euthanize him. People were outraged, what was wrong with me!
Nothing. My dad and I were never close, and my dog meant everything to me and had seen me through all kinds of challenging times.
