I have a HUGE decision to make. I do not need or want 4 stallions. My junior stallions will be 3 next year and can start standing. So many options have crossed my mind. Who to geld, who to sell, not sure exactly what to do.
First thought was to geld Rattle (Bux Dunit Commando) because he doesn’t have any big names and no one really knows him. He’s my escape artist & most vocal at home. Loses weight every spring. However, he puts the best minds on his babies and they’re all so beautiful! That long hair gene is so pretty! Easy to work with and so versatile. He does anything I ask of him in any discipline. One of my favorite all time horses. Dunalino, can throw just about any color of foal based on the dam.
Considered selling Bravo (Jaz Buenos Comet), mainly because I don’t use him for anything and he needs a job other than just breeding. Plus I don’t like his head, but that’s a personal opinion. Everything else about him is amazing! Conformation, disposition, big bone, great feet, well muscled, sure footed, reliable, and never forgets his training no matter how much time has gone by. Very much western & ranch type. 100% foundation, Jaz Ranch bred, homozygous black grulla. After telling people how great he is, I’m second guessing my idea of selling him. Aren’t many like him out there, especially in our area.
Phoenix (Metallic Phoenix) has a big name stallion and is by a home raised mare, also Rattle’s dam. Big name sire, Metallic Cattack by Metallic Cat. He’s quick, sensitive, catty, and will be so versatile. Nice hip, great coloring (rabicano with some fancy white), great disposition, smart, athletic, negative across the disease panel. I’ve already received a lot of interest in breeding to this boy, but wasn’t willing to breed him until next spring. He’s going to be awesome and keeping him a stallion.
Biggles (Dunit With A Mobster) is also by a big name stallion, HF Mobster, and out of one of our best mares, Dunit Slickntwisted by Dunit With A Twist. Great pedigree and color, cremello & splash 2. Good bone, big feet, short (might reach 13.3 hands) but that doesn’t stop his mom, Lily, at all. She’s broken arena records in gaming, does any and every event you put her in, competes to win, any level rider can ride her, and she’s so sweet. He is her duplicate. Super easy to work with, so smart, and has a puppy dog disposition. He’s negative across the disease panel, except carries one copy of IMM. He doesn’t have the typical desired stallion look to him. My first thought was to sell him, but now my thought is to geld him so we can put his talent to use in all aspects and arenas.
So, I am on limited time to make a decision. What to do…
