2024 Howl-o-Ween Sniffer 10/25 & 26

(NOT during the daytime; this a low light to darkness by lantern light, spooky Halloween sniffer)

Location: Wilbraham MA (not far off the Mass Pike)
(some photos below from a different location last year)

Date(s): Fri Oct 25th and Sat Oct 26th (you choose which evening you want; first come, first served with regard to evening preference)

Time (low light dusk to dark): starts late afternoon (for dogs who need some light in order to feel comfortable) and goes until roughly 9 pm both days (first come first served with regard to time requests)

Registration interest: email me (Jenn) with the subject line "Howl-o-Ween Sniffer 2024" and I will send you the registration email and if you wish to attend after reading it, I will issue you a PayPal invoice. My email: K9SniffWorks ()

Fee (trained odor dogs on birch, anise, clove; sorry no pairing): $80/dog ($70/dog if bringing two dogs)

Fee (for dogs who are naive to trained odor and handlers just want environmental exposure): $35/dog or puppy

Elements:
Interiors: Harry Potter room; Meat Locker room.
Containers: containers will be internally lit, Halloween themed, and a Halloween themed animatronic will be moving around inside the area while you are searching.
Exterior: lantern light path to the graveyard search w/fog (non-toxic, child/pet safe), "bodies," skeletons, tombstones, animatronics.

Judges: Jennifer B (CNWI), Forrest B, and Michelle P.

Costume Contest: $50 K9 Sniff Works gift certificate going to the winner for use at a future sniffer; photos, which will be voted on, will be taken with Halloween themed background. Handlers will receive digital photo(s).

Red Bandana: Dogs who struggle with reactivity are welcome! We can adjust the environment and people movement as needed. We suggest earlier dusk searches for these teams (vs searching when it is dark out).

Children Trick or Treat: we have some children attending and we will be hiding treat bags; if you would like to bring a younger family member, we can have your dog "find" Halloween treat caches for the kids (training aides will be placed near the "goodie bags.") We MUST know in advance so we can prepare this for your group. Please be aware this event is primarily set up for adults to enjoy and some very young children might find it intense in spots. The Harry Potter and Container search areas will be very kid friendly. The Meat Locker and Graveyard will be more intense/scary.

What to expect:
-surfaces: grass/asphalt/concrete;
-slight hill and grass lumps and bumps;
-lantern lit paths;
-short numbers of stairs;
-fog and bubbles (sturdy shoes are a requirement);
-spooky sounds/auditory stimulation (we can turn off it bothers the team);
-strobes (we can turn off for photosensitive folks);
-animatronics (stationary movement as well as objects that traverse the search areas);
-5-6 ft tall Halloween props;
-mature spooky themes (dead bodies), human decomp odors, fake blood, fake weapons, etc);
-movement of costumed people and objects with some "in the shadows" (we will NOT DO THIS for any dogs who we suspect might have a sustained startle response that they might not recover from);
-movement of actual humans using strange gaits such as dragging their foot/leg...think Igor from Frankenstein (dogs often have some issue with this so we will assess as we go with each team).

We are offering a "nose cam" sniffer in Wilbraham on Sat July 27th; thank you Team Harper/Willow!!!

This is a special kind of sniffer meant to give diagnostic feedback on how your dogs are sourcing training aides when we cannot see their snoots AND to give you some fun footage to show others.
