The hand crocheted soft and sleek low pill fiber 100% acrylic yarn in warm neutral colors featuring a scalloped edge at the top with the most adorable raised pawprints, 5 total heart prints made with paw prints and fits the top of a king sized bed(approximately 76"x80"). The pattern is Meandering Paws by Amy B Stitched. Will not shrink and has been washed once to avoid any color shedding.
Story behind the blanket: Miley was adopted by Jeanie Prien after she was brought into HHBR from a research colony that used many Basset Hounds to research Glaucoma. Miley, as you can see in photo, was blind but certainly not disabled and Jeanie hand crotcheted a very special blanket in her memory. We can't think of a greater charge to use the blanket for, and hope Miley sees what an impact her life and story is.
WONDER'S STORY:
*long read, but worth it, we promise!*
Wonder came to HHBR in August of 2019 in quite the dramatic entrance. If you may remember Wonder had the very large grapefruit sized mass on her ge***al area, but she also had; •3 mammary mass not noted on chart but very noticeable upon a spay. • ear infection, •poor coat and skin, •dental disease, •slight eye infection, •anemic due to large Hookworm load, •mass on v***a, •neurologic symptoms with her use of her hind leg and we did xrays and testing and while she has arthritis we're not sure if the deficit has been there for a while or if the tumor has some connection to the nerves in the area, •Canine Cognitive Disorder, •chronic uti's, etc.
Now, if Wonder hadn't shown us she wanted to thrive and become a vital part of her foster mom's heart and home, we feel a bit overwhelmed with all these things BUT she's done just that; THRIVED!!
But that brings us to today. In early September her foster mom noticed she had another UTI and was quite lethargic & was refusing food. Her urine culture showed her UTI/E Coli infection was back but bloodwork looked good! She spent a few days in clinic getting SubQ fluids that seemed to help. But getting Wonder to eat wasn't easy therefore getting Wonders long list of medications down was nearly impossible. It was even suggested we do an ultrasound to make sure her internal organs were OK and we weren't missing a mass. That came back normal!
So her foster mom did what she could for supportive care, offering her a very large variety of foods, and trying desperately to get her medications down. Because let us tell you that Wonder does not like to be pushed in a way she doesn't want to go and she can, lovingly of course, gator snap faster than a gator!
Her foster mom also considered her mouth/ teeth being the issue but her veterinarian required a cardiologist evaluation prior to any anesthesia so Wonder got a day trip to see the cardiologist at K- State for evaluation and we're happy to say her Grade 4 murmur is age related and she's been placed on 1 heart medication. But can have a dental if that's what is chosen.
It took close to a month, but her foster mom saw great progress in her appetite coming back fully (we highly celebrated the whole bowl licked clean photo), energy level improvement, etc.
Until the last few days when she noticed her UTI was back with a raging force due to the antibiotic not being the correct one to fight the infection fully. And Wonder showing increased difficulty getting upright on her rear leg. We're waiting on her vet to hear next steps. But foster mom, Stacy, has been cleaning up urine from one side of the house to another- Wonder knows she has to go but sometimes her back leg doesn't allow her to get up fast enough- and has been so loving through the grueling clean up process. 💗
So to break it down:
*RX Food for Urinary Support
*3 medications/supplements for Arthritis
*2 medications for her Sundowners/CCD.
*1 heart medication
*Antibiotic for UTI
That's not even the costs of pill pockets, monthly HW/preventatives, diapers to help with any urine leakage, etc.
As you can imagine this venture has been a very hefty cost totaling close to $2,700 for the vet costs and much more on otc products. And she still desperately needs her dental.
