Forgotten Felines, Inc. is a charitable, non-profit organization with a mission to stop the proliferation of homeless cats living hard lives and struggling to find food and shelter on the streets of our local communities. We have all the cats we rescue spayed or neutered, vaccinated, given thorough health exams, and tested for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). At our no-kill shelter, we provide nutritious food, warm beds and expert care to as many cats as possible with the goal of finding them permanent, loving homes. We release feral cats into managed colonies where they are fed and sheltered.

Oh look at this! Volunteer Genevieve caught sweet Gidget out in the sun on her favorite scratcher that was donated! So glad she is out and about! Go Gidget!

(see our post from earlier today!)

01/29/2025

We rescued this sweet stray after her kittens were picked up by another group and Gidget was left on the streets. Gidget just turned 5 years old and is looking for a quiet home where she can feel safe, warm and loved. At the shelter she likes to burrow under the protection of blankets now that it is cold, but as this video from volunteer Terry shows, Gidget is very gentle and accepting of attention if you seek her out. This mama has been through so much fending for herself and her babies, and now is looking for a family to take care of her. Please come visit with her in our Peach Room.

When 4 year old Maverick first arrived, he found very creative places to hide from us in the Yellow Room Catio. Thanks to our volunteers, Maverick now has his very own spooky cave right by the door (with room service!), where we can peek in to say hello and check on him. He looks very relaxed inside his man cave, feeling safe and warm, watching his roommates and volunteers go about their business. We are hoping to see more of this beautiful boy as he gets more comfortable. Chime in volunteers if you have a Maverick sighting!

Come by and visit Maverick and all of our kitties! Open House Events are Saturdays from 11am-2pm. 153 Horse Hill Rd, Westbrook. No appointment necessary. Call 860-669-1347 or use our online adoption request form on our ADOPT page:

Hooray for Herbie! Herbie is loving life, letting the volunteers pet him now sans treats and staying in shape swatting at flying feathers with his polydactyl paws. 2 year old Herbie was found wandering outside and now loves it out on the Green Room catio, but boy does he appreciate those self warming blankets you donated to make his life that much sweeter! Come meet this adorable boy Saturday at our next Open House Event.

01/26/2025

In addition to our usual plea below for volunteers and the tasks involved, one of the most important aspects of their responsibility is to check and monitor the health of the kitties in the room assigned to them. The volunteers make notes if any kitties are unwell, not eating as they usually do, and will try to coax some of them who are not eating well with the special foods you so generously donate. 10 year old Jarvis is one of the kitties in our Yellow Room who is given special attention to as he has cancer. He arrived in 2016 and spends his time on the Highline, snuggling with all his friends who love it up there and allowing volunteers to sneak in a pet or two. When he arrived he was a big boy and we noticed how thin he was getting. With the diagnosis of cancer, the volunteers make sure he gets extra food which he shares with his buddy Liam, to try to keep his weight up and they do everything possible to make him comfortable. The many kitties who need this extra care depend on having enough volunteers to have the time to care for them. We would love you to join our team to help Jarvis and his friends! If you cannot volunteer, we can always use any of the items on our Amazon Wish list. Thank you!

Volunteers are vital to running the shelter and we are always in need of volunteers that are willing to train for an Infirmary shift or shelter shift. The Infirmary position includes administering light medications (no injections), cleaning cages, caring for the cats in cages, etc. There are several open slots on both AM and PM shifts. It is a weekly commitment of 2 hours minimum. We will provide training. Please consider donating your time to the care of these precious cats who will reciprocate with unconditional love and happiness.
If interested, call the volunteer line at 860.669.1347 or complete the volunteer form on this link:

The shelter is the purrfect place to warm your heart on this cold, cold morning! We are open today from 11am-2pm and kittens Meowy and Theodore are coming to meet you also. Our newest silly catio boys seem to like the cold and check out the progress they have made! Genevieve is showing off how far they have come. Could they be forming a Peach Room guy group? The Cool Catio Cuties?

2 year old Gucci, the black fluffer, always use to greeted you with a hiss, but look at him now! He's the one with the cool hair and demeanor.

1 year old Wolfie, the short hair black boy, is shy, but has always been receptive to attention. He's the shy one that all the girls secretly love.

2 year old Dylan, the tuxedo short-hair with the white toesies, has those amazing whiskers and seems to love hanging out with his new pals! He is the best dressed with a great sense of fashion.

1 year old Prince, the tabby with the teddy bear vibe, is the youngest of the group and is so sweet. He is the one that the fans fall for.

See you later! 153 Horse Hill Rd in Westbrook. Right off of exit 64, north of I95.

Donations needed please!

Our shelter took in so many new cats in the last half of 2024, and it sadly seems like the first few weeks of 2025 is no different. Our infirmary is bursting with new intakes, all waiting for their turn to be checked out at the vet, before being assigned a room if given a clean bill of health. Many of the kitties in the infirmary and in our rooms are in need of the special foods listed in our Amazon Wish list. These kitties need some coaxing to eat or extra food to maintain their weight. Sprinkles was found in this frigid weather wandering around in desperate need of someone to care for her. This sweet petite girl is painfully thin, was bleeding and there is visible trauma to her left ear. Once she goes to the vet, we will know more. Amazingly this darling girl still managed the cutest chirping noises like a little bird when I petted her. If anyone can help Sprinkles and our other cats in need, we could use your help to keep our shelves stocked with a variety of foods: bisques (we never have enough of these), stews, broths, baby food and pates.

Other items we are in need of is litter for our infirmary, a new steam mop or two to keep our shelter sanitary, and those self heating blanket pads for our catio cats that refuse to come inside.

Lovable Lucy!

Lucy is a newish girl in our Yellow Room. You can always find this petite miss on one of the towers closest to the door looking for attention and petting. This kitten-sized sweetheart is 10 years old and had been living outside on her own being fed in a barn. We are so happy she now has a safe warm place to hang out until she finds her very own person to love and a lap to keep warm. She will also keep her family amused with her silly happy sounds when she eats (see video in the comments section below). Please come in a meet this precious princess on Saturday!

Our new girl in our Blue Room is Snickers! I hear that she is a door dasher, and loves to explore the shelter hallways checking to make sure the volunteers are doing their kitchen chores! Snickers is 8 years old and don't you just love her face markings? She has an orange tiger hidden under her darker coat. Snickers loves to play too and is ready to find her people. Come meet her Saturday!

Living with so many other kitties is not his favorite and would prefer a home where he did not have to share with so many others. All of his orangey goodness (with his white boots hidden underneath the loaf!) is plenty to share with all your family members. Come meet this yummy boy Saturday!

New boy Hunter is as sweet as honey! Sadly Hunter lost both his person and his two canine companions when they all moved into assisted living and he ended up at our shelter. Hunter is 16 years old and you can just imagine how lonely and confused he is with such a huge change in his life. We are hoping he is comforted by all the attention from our volunteers and will find a new home very soon. Come meet this handsome honey Saturday!!!
