Good morning VSAWL Team, what a beautiful Scaredy-Cat Saturday! Here at VSAWL, we have a few “scaredy-cats” that we’d love to find furever homes. In order to do so, we believe that if we can catch them and bring them into foster homes we might be able to get them to decompress and fall in love with humans. If they could just establish a routine with a loving human that feeds them, loves them, and gives them time to build trust, we might just be able to find them homes. Today we are looking for loving homes to help Leo (orange) and Jesse (gray). Jesse is definitely food-motivated, we’re still working on finding Leo’s motivation. Can you help them? Xoxo VSAWL!😻🐶

Happy Friday!!! We have wonderful news! Happy has been adopted and brought to her furever home! She absolutely loves her new family and they absolutely adore her as well! We couldn’t imagine a more perfect match! Happy is adjusting so well and is normally found cuddling with Mom or Dad. She has a new friend Luna that comes to visit her, they’re already best friends! We wish Happy and her family all the love and happiness. Thank you for giving her a fresh start. Xoxo, VSAWL!😻🐶

Good morning VSAWL Team. Today is bittersweet. Zoe has officially been with us for 2 years today. We love her with all our hearts, but we wonder when someone will give her a chance. Currently, Zoe hangs out with us in the office and is the first to greet us every day. She is a senior dog who is looking to be welcomed into a home where she is the only pet because dogs and cats easily annoy her. But don’t let that stop you, she’s got the heart of a puppy and loves to play and cuddle. She has been the sunshine for so many at VSAWL and is absolutely loved and adored by staff and volunteers. Life hasn’t been so great to Zoe…when she was young a human cut her ears (most likely at home with a razor blade) which left her with small round scars. The staff likes to call them her pearl earrings on her butterfly ears and say they are beautiful. If you are looking for a loyal companion that will give you UNCONDITIONAL love and ATTENTION Zoe is your gal! If you’re retired, recent empty nester or living a quieter life she would love to join you. We promise you won’t be sorry. She’s watched so many other fur babies come and go to their furever homes for two years, will someone finally give her a chance to find her furever home?

Today on the second anniversary of her welcoming to VSAWL, Zoe will be at the Essex Steam Train platform for their Dog Days of Summer event from 10-2. Please, come down and meet her, you’ll fall in love at first sight. Remember every weekday train and boat ticket they sell, they donate $1 to the featured rescue group! This week is VSAWL!

These fur babies are so very lucky to be here, in Westbrook, where they are loved and cared for beyond belief. All we can say is wow! Happy Majestic Monday! Did you notice the sneak peek of our newest fur friend a few days ago?

We are excited to introduce James! He’s a 3 year old husky that came to us through no fault of his own. His family developed dog allergies and when looking for a shelter to take him in, someone recommended VSAWL! They drove 2 hours just to make sure he would be loved, cared for, and adopted by a wonderful new family.

James is so loving that staff and volunteers have fallen head over paws for him. If he could, he’d cuddle next to you all day and look up at you with those beautiful eyes. James is the perfect gentleman. He knows his manners, loves kids, other dogs, and is wonderful on a leash. If you ask very nicely and give him some time to warm up, he may even sing to you. Now, being a husky, James is looking for a family that appreciates his intelligence and activity level. James has already been on a few adventures with us, and he loves them! Hiking and burger patties, sign him up! Who will bring James home and give him the life he deserves?

Happy Saturday VSAWL friends! Today we are here asking for your help. With lots of new dogs coming and going we are really in need of dog food. We currently have them all on the same dog food to cut costs and ensure everyone has enough food for however long their stay with us may be. We also are looking for kitten food as the time is approaching that Mamma Mia’s kittens will no longer be nursing. We are hoping to gather enough food for them in preparation for that time. It’s Foster Friday! These sweet girls River and JoJo came to us from Alabama and now they’re in a home being fostered to adopt! Being a bonded pair we weren’t sure how long it would take us to find them the perfect home, but thanks to our new VSAWL friend, Laura, we just might have done that! They are the most loving girls who had been through a lot together. We wish them luck and hope to update you soon with the news of their adoption! Fingers crossed!

We love running into VSAWL fur babies! Thank you to everyone who has spread their love to VSAWL and continues to update us on how their new family members are adjusting. Here at VSAWL we have big hearts and love to see these sweet babies go to loving homes! A visit, a chat, or some cute pictures of our friends really puts into perspective the life changing impacts these animals have on made on us and their new families! Not too long ago we ran into Gizmo at the vet and his mom spoke about how he’s changed her life!Gizmo is living the life and really loves his mom!Recently, we ran into Molly at the fundraising event at Bonafide Pets! It was so heartwarming to see her flourishing with her family. Remember VSAWL friends, the raffle event is still live! Today is Help Me Monday…we would like to highlight Momma Spice. She was found in a motor home park in Uncasville with her adorable Spice Girl kittens we all know and love. We’re asking that now Momma receive some of our love, support, and attention. When she first arrived to VSAWL she was very timid but seemed to warm up as she watched us care for her and her babies. Since then, she has reverted back to her shy disposition. Momma Spice really needs some socialization and a safe, loving home to decompress. Who can help this sweet momma come out of her shell?

We are so happy to share on this Serendipitous Saturday that Savannah has been adopted! Savannah came from Georgia to VSAWL approximately 2.5 years ago with her litter mates. She was adopted by a loving family however they suffered an unexpected loss and wished to return her to VSAWL where they knew she’d receive the utmost love and care. Savannah was only at VSAWL for two days when one of our volunteers recognized her as being the sibling to a family friends dog! Within hours we were contacted with the luckiest and most beautiful wish to reunite the siblings! Savannah now gets to spend the rest of her life with her brother and a loving family! Savannah was a lucky girl, only spending a week here before being brought to her new home! We will continue to update you on this heartwarming reunion and woohoo!

It’s Toe Bean Thursday!!!!!! Mamma Mia came to VSAWL pregnant several weeks ago! About a week and a half ago she had 4 perfect little kittens with the cutest toe beans we’ve ever seen. Thankfully our sweet and hardworking little volunteers who’ve been here for years gave them the best names! Meet Sleepy, Misty, Dusty, and Biscuits! Valley Shore Animal Welfare League has been open for 52 years with a mission to show compassion and care for the abandoned animals near and far. Over the years, maintaining a non-profit has gotten extremely expensive and as a result, the shelter is in desperate need of your help. The Paws and Prizes raffle will be our first raffle and we hope to gain all of your support and excitement over this. Thanks to our local businesses, we have a variety of great prizes for you to enter to win.

You'll find that the website contains our gift cards & gift certificate raffle items. If you're free on August 10th from 10-2, we will be hosting a raffle and adoption event at Bonafide Pets located at 215 E Main Street in Clinton. The in person event will have the following:

Raffle Baskets (not featured on our website)
Games for dogs so bring your pawsome pets!
Games for adults to win prizes for their pets live delicious treats and toys.
A dog and cat from our shelter will come between 11-12 to greet any raffle attendees and schmooze, as they're up for adoption!

Bonafide Pets will be displaying the raffle baskets throughout the month of August with slips to enter to win. Raffle basket winners will be contacted via email / phone on Augusts 31st. Raffle website gift card winners will be notified via email by Rally Up on August 31st as well.

Charlie is in a foster home with his very own foster brother, Jasper! His foster mom says he’s adjusting very well. He loves to cuddle with her and his new brother. Loves to play in the grass, get messages from his momma and loves his long brushing sessions! He’s living the life and we couldn’t be happier for this special boy!

This is Calvin and Hobbs…

These brothers were found on the side of the road in Niantic when a VSAWL angel saw them and brought them to us! Calvin is very very outgoing and Hobbs is now just as friendly has his brother (it took Hobbs a little time to adjust to shelter life) both are very sweet and playful and so adorably cute! Both are up to date on all vaccines and have recentley been neutered.

THEY ARE NOT BONDED AND CAN BE ADOPTED SEPARATELY!

Meet Cinder, She is our new door greeter, she also follows staff and volunteers around everywhere! Wherever you are is where you can find her! Cinder came to VSAWL after her mom passed away, she had Cinder since she was a kitten, she is now 16 but you would never guess that! She is still full of energy and love, If you want a lap cat that craves attention, and pets Cinder is your lady!

We want to thank Timberland at Clinton Crossing for coming to donate their time! While they were there they spent many hours constructing a recently donated dog pen and working on our property spreading mulch on our dog trails.

Path of Service is a Timberland community service initiative that encourages their field team members to go out into the local community and serve!

If other local organizations are looking to donate their time we are always happy to work with you! Feel free to call our office if you would like to further discuss.

Social Media really works!! We posted Zaylee last week and we received a call almost immediately. This wonderful human has offered to foster after reading about the struggles Zaylee was having.

Thank you for helping this sweet lady decompress and get the extra special attention she deserves.

Meet River and JoJo

River is a stunning 5 year old black lab and JoJo is a 10 year old small mix breed. They are both incredible sweet girls and are best friends that have been through a lot with each other and would prefer them to be adopted together. River and JoJo were transported from Alabama after their owner passed away unexpectedly. They came to us unvetted-like they had never been to a vet in their lives!!! Thankfully they are healthy and have since been seen. Unfortunately, they were around a lot of drama in their lives but you wouldn’t know it with their sweet charming personalities. They are ready and deserve a safe and loving home.

We know it’s a lot to ask to take in two dogs but we promise you won’t regret it and when you see how much they love and kiss each other you will fall hopelessly in love.
