This is what we call a successful adoption day!! Three dogs and one cat in one day = Pawsome! We also had our furthest adoption today, our big boy Blue (the Rottweiler) is heading to Iowa. Good luck and congratulations to these lucky four legged friends and their new families!🤩🐾

Hello All! We are in need of a couple extra Saturday volunteers to help clean and take care of our cats and little critters. To volunteer you must be 16 years or older, able to do minimal lifting and the ability to get low to the ground for cleaning and feeding purposes. We are looking for Saturdays 8am-10am, sometimes a little longer depending on how many cats and little critters we have. You can apply online or come into the shelter. Meet Tail

"Meet Tail! This senior dog is full of life and playfulness. While he is a bit independent, he seems to have basic manner skills. Although we don't know if he gets along with other dogs, Tail is a friendly pup who is always eager to make new human friends. His age means he already knows some of the basics, and he's an intelligent fella who is eager to learn more and be a good boy. Despite his circumstances not being ideal, Tail has kept his spirits up and is hoping for a second chance at love and happiness. He is an independent soul who would love to have someone to take walks with and play with when he's not napping in the sun. Although he has a medical condition, Kidney Disease, but with the proper care and food his quality of life should continue for some time and with this diagnosis he cannot be neutered. If you're looking for a new companion, consider opening your heart to Tail - he's got lots of love and companionship to give! Blue is as sweet as a teddy bear! He loves all people and his butt scratched. Tennis balls are his toy of choice and flips them up in the air and play by himself. He is a very large dog so we recommend that he goes to a home environment and not an apartment setting. Blue is a large snuggler and doesn't know his own size and strength. Blue must be the only animal in a home.

Our April Pet of the month has gone home so lets promote another! Meet Tail, he is a 12 year old yellow lab mix. Tail will need to go to a home that has no other animals and no young children. He will be a special needs due to his medical condition. We did blood work and he has kidney disease, but with the right combination of food and follow up routine blood work his life should maintain for a bit longer. Tail is highly food driven and gets feisty when he sees it or treats so watch those hands and fingers. Serious inquiries only, please! Good morning! Meet one of our Friday shelter volunteers, Mia Campbell! She is a sophomore at URI and is an amazing young lady - she shows up every week here at the shelter and gives her 110%! She asked if she could keep a tote at the shelter for a week or two to help those in need by collecting personal items such as toothpaste, tooth brushes as well as non perishable food like peanut butter, pasta, rice…you get the idea! Anyway, next time you stop by the shelter, any donation to fill her tote would be appreciated!!

Meet Mr. Dougle, our April pet of the month!! Dougle is a loving boy, with the sweetest temperament. He is rambunctious and purrs like no other cat we know, he loves to give head butts and play fetch. His new home should be on the quieter side without any other animals, in his previous home he didn't get along with the other cat. Well surprise!!! This is Sampson (orange) and Deliah (tabby)
These two came to the shelter when they were about 12 wks old. They were semi-feral. Not mean or hissy just very untrusting of us humans.
I would love to say that they are completely tame now but that would not be accurate. They are a bonded pair and still quite shy. You can pet them softly.
These two require a person/ family that would follow our guidelines for a successful adoption. (Experience would be great, but not necessarily required for the right adopter.)
They can't just be brought home and let loose because they would hide making the process less then ideal.

Meet Rebel. He has been at the shelter for over a year and a half and is looking for someone that can give him all he needs. Rebel will need lots of support and training. He will do best with a postive routine. We are seeking someone with breed experience. No other pets or small children. Rebel needs a yard and ample space.

Rebel has had a rough beginning and will need some time to decompress after adoption. He is a tough dog around the edges and is independent when he wants to be but very sweet and affectionate once he trusts and gets to know you. He does loves his butt scratched and a good chew toy to throw around, especially a tennis ball! The ideal home should be a house and not an apartment/condo/townhouse setting, we say this because of his size and breed. Most landlords do not accept the Pitbull breed for a dog. Rebel will need additional training after adoption, he is doing much better on a leash but can get distracted easy and hyper focus on people and other dogs.

We had so much fun this morning that we forgot to take pictures but we were able to get in some group shots!! Some of the Dunn's Corners School students and teachers spent some time at our shelter today and it looks like they all had a blast! Thank you for sharing your students with us 😊
