The Pitbull is back in business and getting the love they deserve, thanks to education and advocacy. It's true that some people used to breed them for illegal fighting, and many were sadly euthanized as a result. But, the media had to eat their words when the "Vicktory Dogs" were rescued from a fighting ring and given a second chance at life. Turns out, these pups are just as capable of moving past their rough start and becoming cherished family members.
Nowadays, Pitbulls are making a name for themselves as America's top dogs. They're sniffing out narcotics, showing off their agility skills, and lending a paw as therapy dogs. With their loyal and protective personalities, they're a perfect fit for service work. But when they're not busy saving the world, they're kicking back with their owners and living the couch potato life.

To our amazing technicians, thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into caring for our furry friends!
10/20/2023
Your furry friends deserve top-notch care, and it takes a whole crew of animal-loving superheroes to make that happen! Luckily, the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) knows this and created National Veterinary Technician Week (NVTW) to celebrate these unsung heroes.
10/19/2023
Spread some love to the amazing vet techs in your life! Scribble a heartfelt note, surprise them with thoughtful gifts, or maybe even a bouquet of flowers or yummy treats. Your gratitude can go a long way!
10/18/2023
If you thought veterinary technicians were just animal nurses, think again! These superstars wear many hats, from advocating for furry patients to drawing blood, conducting X-rays, running lab tests, and even assisting in surgery. They are the ultimate multitaskers, ensuring everything runs like clockwork at the animal hospital.
10/17/2023
To become an animal superhero, veterinary technicians need to flex their brain muscles by completing an associate degree in veterinary technology from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited college. They then need to tackle the Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE) to earn their license. While vet assistants might lend a helping hand with some patient care, only vet techs have the training to handle the heavy lifting required to take on a higher level of care.

Communicating with a deaf dog can be a challenge, but the following techniques can be used to help owners communicate with them:
🐾Train your pet to recognize hand signals.
🐾To avoid startling your dog, gently tap or pet her to announce your entrance or exit from the room.
🐾Avoid letting your deaf dog wander alone outside, unless you have a fenced yard. There are obvious dangers with your dog being anywhere near traffic or other hazards that she won’t be able to hear.
🐾Consider attaching a bell to your dog’s collar. This makes it easier to locate your dog quickly in the house or in the event of an escape. Your dog won’t be able to hear your calls to come back, but you will be able to hear her.
🐾Be sure that all of your collars have an alert that your dog is deaf.

The Cryan Veterinary Hospital doctors and staff believe it’s time to reverse this overweight trend in our own pets and patients. We have a goal to reduce the incidence of many of the preventable diseases associated with excess weight. The old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” applies now more than ever. We have some great new tools at our disposal to help an overweight pet lose unhealthy pounds, and help healthy pets maintain their weight. Thanks to recent research partnerships between the Hill’s pet food company and University of Tennessee Veterinarians, veterinary professionals now have precise healthy weight calculators which utilize a body fat index score (BFI), age, breed, sex, and spay/neuter status, to generate a custom feeding plan for any pet. For even greater accuracy, detailed body measurements can be taken along with a BFI score to craft a feeding plans and safe weight loss programs. Our professional staff can help a client choose a quality food for their pet or instruct them on the proper quantity to feed of a current favorite diet. To encourage you to take charge of your pet’s weight now, we are enrolling for a Biggest Loser Challenge. The challenge will be limited to the first 40 pets and last for 3 months. Challenge enrollment period is October 1-October 10, 2022. They will start with a weight consultation with one of our Veterinary Technicians, or a Veterinarian if they haven't been seen recently. They will identify a healthy weight for your pet based on the new evidence-based evaluation system and also recommend an appropriate daily caloric intake. For those pets found to be overweight or obese, we will create a custom weight loss plan utilizing the Hill's Metabolic Weight Loss product line available only through a Veterinarian. Weigh-ins will be conducted monthly and you will be invited to join our Biggest Loser: Pet Edition Facebook group that will post regular tips and exercise options for your pet! Additio

⚠️Caution: The symptoms of allergies can be confused with other disorders, or occur concurrently with them. Therefore, do not attempt to diagnose your dog without veterinary professional assistance. If an allergy is diagnosed, your whole family must follow your veterinarian's advice very closely in order to successfully relieve your pet's discomfort. Call to schedule a veterinary appointment and get advice on how to help make your pets more comfortable during allergy seasons!
