This is one of our favorite non-profits right here in New England. They give old dogs (and other senior creatures) a soft place to land to live out the rest of their life peacefully.

Folks, we need help. We are at the bottom of the barrel financially right now and need help. We cannot take in or help any more old dogs until we are above water and it’s been an incredibly expensive and exhausting few months. Between diagnostics and end of life care and all the medications on top of overhead we are really struggling.

If you can’t donate - can you share our mission? Every penny goes towards the care of these discarded, surrendered or transferred senior hospice animals and giving them the best possible end of life they could ask for. It’s a labor of love and passion and we would do anything for them.

If youve done facebook fundraisers we only get those at the end of every month, in one lump sum.

Funds we can access immediately can come through PayPal on our site -

You can also mail any donations to

Thank you so much❤️

We are so sad to hear that one of our animal trainer hero’s has passed. Thank you for making the world a kinder, safer, and more loving place for animals. You will be deeply missed Karen Pryor but your contributions to this world will be forever.

We are deeply saddened to learn of Karen Pryor's passing. She was a pioneer in animal training and behaviour whose contributions have shaped modern dog training as we know it. Her innovative approach and entrepreneurial spirit transformed the industry, paving the way for countless trainers and animals to benefit from science-based, positive reinforcement methods.

Karen’s work extended far beyond the Karen Pryor Academy, which has educated and inspired trainers worldwide. Her book, Don’t Shoot the Dog, introduced an entire generation of trainers to the principles of clicker training and remains a cornerstone of dog training literature. The annual Clicker Expos she founded became vital opportunities for professional growth, collaboration, and community-building within the field. Her legacy also includes Reaching the Animal Mind, a profound exploration of the science and art of animal training.

Karen’s vision, intelligence, and compassion revolutionised how we communicate with and understand our canine companions. Her contributions have had a lasting impact on the lives of trainers and the dogs they work and live with. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and guide the animal training community for generations to come.

Our thoughts are with Karen’s family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

I have a little story I want to share. Back in the 1990s a girl walked into the San Francisco SPCA and saw a 100 plus pound dog. He was lying in the back of his kennel and not wanting to come forward bouncing off the kennel door like the other dogs were. He had haunted eyes, and after she sat in front of his kennel quietly with a little coaxing, he finally did come forward and sniffed her hand held up to the kennel door. She asked one of the staff if she could take him out and they said he’s a really fearful dog, and they were having a hard time placing him. They said his name was Frazier and his previous owner named him after a professional boxer. After coming out of his kennel, he warmed up a lot more with the girl. She could see something special about him. She went home later that day and told her boyfriend about Frazier. And the next day they went back to the San Francisco SPCA and adopted him. He was terrified of her boyfriend and didn’t want to go near him. He didn’t know how to walk on a leash at all and was like a wild animal running left to right and back and forth. When their friends came over, he barked in a big booming voice and would hide trembling in the other room, sometimes peeing on the floor. He was so scared. The girl signed up for dog training classes at the San Francisco SPCA and talked with the dog trainer about how fearful Frazier was with strangers. The trainer gave her some exercises utilizing chopped up hotdogs. And every time her friends came over they had to play the hot dog game with Frazier. Pretty soon he was starting to really enjoy many of the visitors and eventually they didn’t need to play the hot dog game anymore. The girl continued taking classes with Frazier all the way through advanced level off leash class. Everybody started to know Frazier in their neighborhood in San Francisco. Frazier went everywhere with the girl around San Francisco and very rarely needed a leash. The girl taught Frazier how to wait at street corners and not cross until she gave him a release. Many times he would be walking ahead of her and when he would get to the intersection, he would sit down and turn his head and wait for her to catch up and then wait for her to say OK! And they would cross together. The girl would sometimes pop into a local corner store and ask Frazier to Stay. He would never move from his spot until she came back outside. Frazier had many dog friends which he enjoyed playing with at Dolores or McLaren Park. He tipped the scales at over 120 lbs but was always a gentle giant. One time they were at Dolores Park enjoying the view when Frazier let out a ferocious woof and stood behind the girl. When she turned around there was a strange man looking terrified backing away. Turns out he was about to steal her backpack. One night she was approached by someone who brandished a knife and Frazier lunged forward in front of her w his big boy voice. And the man ran off. Though the girl had many dogs throughout her life, he was by far the dog that she found her heart and soul the most connected. Her experience being part of and watching his transformation from a completely terrified wild animal to a totally street wise city dog, led her to a career change. In 2002 after Frazier finally lost his battle to cancer, she enrolled in the Academy for Dog Trainers at the San Francisco SPCA. In 2003 she started her business, Paws of Nature Canine Behavior Consulting & Training and her very first business card depicted the dog who started it all. 22 years later, she found herself in Massachusetts, with three more certifications in dog behavior and training, 3 amazing employees, and added cat behavior services. But it was the experience with Frazier where it really all began. The power of positive reinforcement. Learning to be patient and letting the dog set the pace…🥰❤️ Frazier blossomed into the most incredible dog in my life. I have so much gratitude that I have a career where I can continue to help other dogs like Frazier alongside their wonderful and dedicated families. I am truly blessed. I wish all of you a happy, safe, and healthy new year.
