-Pet adoptions The shelter’s animal guests may come from Westfield, Easthampton or
Southampton. Looking to Support?

Animal Control:
Animal control is available daily from 8am-4pm. If you have an animal control concern, please call the shelter at 413.564.3129 x1. Officers are frequently on the road, but checking messages often. Please leave a detailed messaged with your name, phone number, and concern and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. After hours and on holidays, please call the Westfield Pol

ice Department at 413.562.5411. Lost Pets:
If you have lost a pet, please call the animal control office as
soon as possible at 413.564.3129 x1. Stray dogs and cats will be held for 10 days. After a 10 day hold period, animals can be placed up for adoption. Per Massachusetts General Law (MGL) Chapter 140 and Westfield's Animal Control Bylaws, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccine (and a current city license for a dog) to reclaim your dog or cat. Redemption fees will vary based on vaccination and license status of your
pet. Licensing:
Dog License Registration forms can be mailed to City Hall with
payment or can be processed in person at the Licensing Department at City Hall (59 Court St, Rm 217, Westfield). MGL requires that all dogs over 6 months of age be licensed
annually. Dog licenses are also a great means of identification and can be traced by Animal Control. Dog license fees are $15.00 for dogs that are spayed or neutered, and $30.00 if they are not. A proof of a current rabies vaccine is needed to license your dog. You can print out a copy of the Dog License Registration form (found in the links section of this Page). Adoptions:
The animal shelter is open to the public by APPOINTMENT ONLY. You must have an approved adoption application to visit with animal shelter guests. You may fill out the online adoption form (found in the links section of this Page) or get an adoption application from the shelter. Completed online applications are sent directly to the adoption counselor. Physical applications can be dropped off at the shelter office or emailed to the adoption counselor at [email protected] After an application has been approved, a meet and greet will be scheduled. Approved applications will be kept for a month. After a month, you will have to reapply for adoption. The Massachusetts Animal Coalition’s “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate
tells your community that you care about animals! By purchasing this
license plate, you will be contributing to a program that supports statewide
spay/neuter efforts for cats, dogs, and rabbits. https://massanimalcoalition.org/programs/license-plate/

If you are looking to donate items to Westfield Animal Shelter, you can call
the office for an updated list, but common items needed include: bleach, Friskies pate canned cat food, Friskies dry cat food, clumping cat litter, and dry and canned Pedigree dog food. Monetary donations can be made to Westfield Animal Shelter Heroes (WASH). WASH is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization relying on sponsorships and donations to help provide financial support for the animals at the Westfield Animal Shelter. Social Media Policy:

🚩Recovery Effort in Progress🚩

There is a black lab type dog that has been loose in the city since earlier this month.

We are hoping you will help us spread the word that we have recovery efforts underway.

In order for recovery to be as quick and successful as possible, we need the public to LEAVE the dog ALONE and NOT FEED him. Please read these flyers below to learn more.

Many people in the community are already aware of this dog and have learned about survival mode in lost dogs. We are incredibly greatful for people we have spoken to who have listened to what we have to say about dogs in this situation and have heeded our instructions to aid in recovery.

.but boy- do we love a good post from the Westfield Police Department !😆

EDIT**

*The pup was brought to the shelter with care, in hopes his people will soon meet him there. He's snug and he's safe and warm for the night, so his family can rest knowing he's alright.

He may be away from his people for this Christmas Eve, but surrounded by other fur babies will keep him at ease. *

It was the night before Christmas and all through the city, ran an adorable pup and boy was it pretty. The pup was outside without it's owner in tow, complete with a green bandana that looked like a bow.

If this is your pup and a Christmas must have, call down to the station because he's here now from Forest Ave.

Miss Heidi lived with her foster mom during her 'maternity leave' and was greatly loved. Her foster mom loves how snuggly she became and wants everyone to know that she is looking for a family who is willing to keep up with her high energy and play drive!

🎄Adoption Update🎄

Sparky was found by a good Sam and brought to the animal shelter. After his stray hold, he was seen by the vet and adopted by the family who got him out of the cold!

Now, Sparky spends his time relaxing with his family and is really enjoying his life of safety, good health, and love.

His mom sent us some photos of him lounging and enjoying the holiday lights. We are so happy for all of them! ❤️

Our Story

The Westfield Regional Animal Shelter specializes in the care of lost, abandoned and mistreated animals. Our animal guests come from Westfield, Easthampton and Southampton. Stray or abandoned dogs are held for 7 days, per state law. Licensing:2018 Dog Licenses are available at the Westfield Regional Animal Shelter and the Westfield Police Department. Massachusetts General Law (MGL) requires that all dogs over 6 months of age be licensed yearly. Dog licenses are also a great means of identification and can be traced 24 hours a day 7 days a week by either Animal Control or the Police Department. License costs are $15.00 for dog that has been spayed or neutered, or $30.00 if they are not. Please bring proof of current rabies vaccine and proof of neutering or spaying with you when licensing your dog. The shelter accepts payment via check or cash. There is no card machine at the shelter and no change can be made. Per MGL Chapter 140 and the City of Westfield's ordinances, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccine and also a current city dog license to claim your dog if it is being held at the shelter. Adoption Fees: The fee for adoption for dogs is $165.00 Included in the $165 is: spay/neuter, micro-chipping, all current vaccinations and a well visit to the vet. The fee for adoption of cats is $125.00. The cat will be s/n, utd on vaccines, FELV/FIV tested and microchipped. Adoptions do not happen on the day the application is accepted. Our Adoption Coordinator will meet with perspective families and conduct a "meet and greet" with all family members and pets first. If you have lost a pet, please call the animal control office as soon as possible at 564-3129. Stray dogs will be held for 7 days. There is no holding period for cats. Owners will also be responsible to pay a daily boarding fee of $15.00 per day in addition to administration fees. Miscellaneous We sponsor the Massachusetts Animal Coalition Program, so please buy your Spay/Neuter license plates to support Spay/Neuter programs in your area. Donations Monetary donations for the Westfield Animal Shelter can be sent to Westfield Regional Animal Shelter, Attention: Lori Charette. Please make checks payable to: The Westfield Animal Shelter Gift Account. All donations may be dropped off at the shelter at 178 Apremont Way, Westfield, MA 01085 or call to make special arrangements.
