My apology to a fox…
I owe you an apology. Here you are, only six months old, having suffered the effects of rat poison. I can’t even lie to you and tell you that you are the first fox I have treated for this. If I am being honest, most before you didn’t survive.
I am sorry to say, none of us are ignorant to your plight. We are all well aware that poisoning rodents also poisons the animals that eat those rodents. Even knowing this, we continue to do it. Even with a recent study by a local wildlife clinic revealing that EVERY deceased bird of prey they had tested for rat poison actually tested POSITIVE, we continue to do it.
Despite a bald eagle in our state dying from rat poison this year, we continue to use it. It’s our nation’s bird - a symbol of freedom in our country, yet it is far from free of the effects of our recklessness.
I can offer you some hope by telling you there are people trying to pass a bill to limit the use of these pesticides. What I can’t tell you is why we only have HALF the number Massachusetts legislators we need supporting this bill to pass it. It makes no sense to me…
I can offer you my apology, but it does nothing to make up for the suffering you have experienced and the continued suffering of so many wild animals around the state who naturally help us control the rodent population.
What I CAN tell you this…
I am going to fight for you.
I will not stop.
You can not tell your story, but I can and I am going to make sure it’s heard. I am not alone in this. You don’t know this but you have captured the hearts of many.
There are still people who care out there and I am going to make sure each one of them in Massachusetts reaches out to their local legislators and asks them get behind this bill.
Your suffering wasn’t fair - but we will see to it that it is seen and changes are made because of it.
This I promise you, little Hawkins.
***PLEASE spread the word. We aren’t asking for your money. We are asking for your time - and only about 5 minutes of it. Email your local legislator today and ask them to cosponsor Bill H-3991 (formerly bill HD4206).
If it matters you, it will matter to them.
Make sure your fellow animal lovers do the same. We can do this if we work together.
It makes no sense to treat wild animals for rat poison and then set them free into a world…filled with more rat poison…
