So I have a little story about these 2 velvet spider slings of mine that I wanted to share with you all.
They both were originally pürch@sed from a spider brɛɛɗɛr back in December 2023 and labeled as Stegodyphus dufouri species.
At the time I had no idea anything about velvet spiders so I just took it for what it was, assumed they were properly labeled, and continued to refer to them as such. I even posted the first 6 pics in my photo album dedicated to "Stegodyphus dufouri", on this page, back when I first received them.
However, as I have learned more over the past 6 months, about the 2 species (Stegodyphus lineatus and Stegodyphus dufouri), I now see that these 2 babies are in fact Stegodyphus lineatus and were simply mislabeled as Stegodyphus dufouri.
I have since reached out to the brëɛdɛr to discuss this discovery and it was a simple matter of being misinformed on an uneducated subject. They also were new to this species at the time, so they too were only continuing to use the label that they were told upon receiving them from their import order. The matter has been resolved so I don't see any point in sharing the brɛëdɛr's information.
I just wanted to publicly state this correction to avoid confusion for any followers that may have noticed the pics were originally in the "Stegodyphus dufouri" album. I've since deleted the photos from that album and have now added them to the album for "Stegodyphus lineatus". I apologize if this led to any confusion!!🥹 but thank you so much for your understanding!! There's a learning curve that comes with keeping any species 🫶🩵🕷
Growing out velvets feels like such a slow process 🥴😅
Here's one of our tiny Eresus moravicus (Gold-Faced Ladybird) Slings that molted not that long ago. If you can believe it, it was actually tinier than this. It's currently being housed in a 1oz deli cup (if that helps for scale lol). Growth rate at the speed of molasses 😂 but we love them still the same!! Seriously love to watch them grow though 🤗🥰🫶🩵🕷

Found another gorgeous moth species native to Southwest Louisiana 😍. This is an Apantesis phalerata, commonly known as the "Harnessed Tiger Moth".
It was resting on the side of a building in the shade so I let it be but snapped these pics to showcase it's magnificent beauty!!🤗

While it's not a spider, I recently have tried my hand at plants and am SO proud of this gorgeous bloom from my hibiscus🌺early this morning!!😍🌅
This is a huge deal for me because I've had a black⚫️ thumb👎 all my life and it's just now kinda transitioning to a brown🟤thumb👍with the help from Mystic Labyrinth 😅 maybe I'll eventually have a full on green 💚 thumb👍 at some point, but I'm not gonna hold my breath 🙃

Just finished going through the photos of the Plexippus paykulli (Pantropical) juvenile females! They were a little more speedy than the boys lol. So most the pics I ended up with were too blurry to use 🫠
Females can be a lighter brown to a darker charcoal color once fully matured and lack the stripping ok their face Compared to Males (see previous post on Gypsy's.Souls page). But they're still very beautiful!!😍

The Apache saga continues 🫠😅
This is an example behind one of the reasons I'm choosing to hang onto my Phidippus apacheanus babies until they are fully matured. I'm just still learning so much! 😍
I'm determined to learn as many different physical features as possible, at different growth stages, that will be helpful precursor markers for trying to predict color variations into adulthood.
The collage below is of 2 separate Slings at i6. The Sling on the right is what most of the Slings have all looked like so far when hitting their 6th instar. But I recently have had a couple of Slings that have molted to i6 and look like the sling pictured on the left. My assumption is that these will go on to grow into the yellow variant but of course I'm not positive just yet.
I'm super excited to see this and just wanted to share my findings with you all!! I will continue to document as much as I can while raising this gorgeous species so that I can keep sharing with you all, everything I learn! 😊🫶🩵🕷

✨💕 WHY DOES MY JUMPING SPIDER C0ST $40-60 TO AD0PT?! 😱 💕✨
I think this is a very important question we as br33ders MUST address 🙌🏻
And if you’re like many wondering the answer to this question, I’m hoping to bring insight to you today.
Like most things we buy today…jumping spider ad0ptions are no different, and this comment comes up A LOT —> “why would I p@y that amount when I can just catch my own outside from the wild…”
While this is absolutely true, you CAN do that.
But let’s think about this:
You COULD also give yourself a tattoo right instead of going to a professional.
You COULD also pick wild flowers instead of buying them at a plant nursery.
I could list SO many examples how we could rationalize why we could do many things ourselves and go the “cheaper” way.
But remember too, you p@y for what you get, and going the cheapest route is not always the best.
Let me give some insight on what I’ve personally experienced as I’ve stepped into br33ding:
✨Raising captive jumping spiders takes TIME ✨
So much time goes into raising captive jumpers. Babies are raised from the egg sacs. This isn’t just a couple days y’all, it’s monthssss of hard work and dedication to these babies. It’s endless nights feeding and misting (most nights I’m up until 2-3am doing this) Misting 100+ babies every single day takes a lot of time. Cleaning out their deli cups of dead fruit flies. Putting together 100+ deli cups with hides and plants for them to have a safe space as they grow..this also takes countless hours of time.
And time is precious to everyone.
When you clock in for your job, you get p@id for your TIME.
It’s the same for br33ding, and is factored in with the ad0ption cost. Br33ders should absolutely be p@id for their time.
💕Raising captive jumpers requires CARE 💕
You could go out and catch yourself a wild jumper and keep as a pet… but did you know br33ders pour their hearts and souls into caring for captive jumpers and raising them? This ensures longevity of the spider’s life. Most wild caught jumping spiders live up to a year, but captive jumpers can live anywhere from 1-3 years. This is because they have not been exposed to things in the environment that would shorten their life spans.
Another behind the scenes care br33ders ensure is socialization. This is simply a matter of care that cannot be done by just catching a wild. This requires hours and hours dedicated to working with captives to be comfortable being handled with their owner.
This is factored into the ad0ption cost, as it should be.
It’s no different than any other pet you would ad0pt. You’d want the same for a puppy br33der, reptile br33der etc.. it’s no different for jumping spider br33ders ☺️
🕸️ And SACRIFICE!
Endless endless sacrifices are made to ensure jumping spiders find their forever homes. And honestly, br33ders don’t make hardly any m0ney from ad0ptions. Personally, I’ve come to know the upfront costs to br33ding. Fruit flies weekly cost, deli cups, shipping materials (boxes, hot/cold packs/ insulation, labels, FedEx costs, etc), lighting and so much more!
A lot more m0ney is poured into raising jumping spiders than made back in ad0ptions, I can promise you that! 👌
Every br33der I’ve spoken to, would agree that it’s not about the m0ney, it’s about sharing the love of owning these amazing creatures. The m0ney we do make is a blessing & does also help support our families, our kids, college saving funds. NOT to get rich 🤑 NOT to just make a “s@le”
It’s so much more than that… knowing that br33ders pour more into their jumpers than they do ad0pting out really helps give more insight and perspective to it all.
So why does my jumping spider c0st this much?
To put it simply, your not just paying for someone to give you “just a jumping spider”
- - it’s time invested into raising healthy hearty beautiful babies for you to love - -
- - it’s the love & care poured into each spoodie that you wouldn’t get from just catching one - -
- - and it’s endless hours and sacrifice - -
This post isn’t to ruffle any feathers 🪶
And to be honest… I used to be that person that just wanted the “lowest price” and took starting my own businesses to see the behind the scenes and truly understand why the c0st is what it is.
Would I love to pay $5 for a tattoo? C0st wise… absolutely would be nice lol 😅😅😅
But… I understand the artist 👩🎨 the time, the quality and professionalism I am p@ying for and I’m more than okay with that! 🙌🏻😇

As some of you may already know, I have begun my adventure on trying to establish various species of Velvet spiders into my collection of babies. As I continue my learning journey with Stegodyphus dufouri (and velvets in general) I was simply wanting to share this experience with you all as well🤗 As mentioned in the video, I am NOT an expert by any means! I'm still VERY new to velvets. There is very limited access to reliable information on this species within captivity, and even within the wild, so it's all just a trial and error process at this point with a little guidance along the way from a Velvet spider group I follow on Facebook, and also a mentor I'm occasionally able to consult with that has more experience than myself with this species. **I'm sorry for not listing a name but I don't want to be responsible for sending a bunch of people their way without consent so I'm respecting their privacy on that note** I don't know many more experienced keepers that have this species and who are also willing to mentor, it can be challenging to find people who are willing to converse with strangers (stranger=me🙋♀️🫣) about husbandry/keeping tactics. And understandably so! However, it also makes it equally as challenging to learn the proper care a species needs when information/help is so hard to find. So just know that even though I'm very new to this species, I will always do my best to help offer information based on my own experiences, to anyone who would like to ask questions about any species that I keep! Please don't hesitate to message me and I'll do my best with replies! Also, I am extremely open minded, and do NOT believe in a one size fits all kind of husbandry. I found a nice tree to place him in further down the road 🥹. I just wanted to update everyone on one of my Stegodyphus lineatus couples!!📣 I went ahead and put my smallest male back in with my first female I received. As an experiment to see if they can cohab. The little male will not eat when alone for whatever reason. But the 2 different times that I placed him in with the female, he actually would accept prey within the first 12 hours. I have no idea if it has something to do with living communally or if it's simply a coincidence. I also don't know if cannibalism will become an issue with these 2, being that I have read/seen/heard mixed information. Some sources I've seen mention S.lineatus specifically, being "partially social". And some sources I've seen saying they're more likely to cannibalize than some of the other Stegodyphus species. I am openly stating that I am NOT an expert and I do NOT recommend housing this species communally!!! I am new to this species and am simply choosing to "experiment" with different housing techniques for a couple of my Stegodyphus species in order to observe and learn from them. Stegodyphus are less common within the hobby, and within captivity in general; therefore, it is difficult to find reliable care resources to refer to for husbandry/care guidance. So I'm using different accumulated information that I'm able to scrap up, and adjusting care techniques based off of that little bit of information, combined with experimental observations, to see what works best within captivity. I'm documenting my research and sharing via my page. Again, this is all in an effort to learn! So I am open to suggestions, and constructive criticism!! 😊

🎊 Latrodectus bishopi Pairing🎊 A little background on our L.bishopi brɛɛding program. We started off in December 2023, with a Trio. One captive-brɛd young female, and one captive-brɛd male that came from one brɛɛder. The other female was field collected (WC), possibly gravid and came from another brɛɛder. Long story short, the little male didn't last very long and we only ever got one dud eggsac out of our WC female. Fast forward and we got a new male from a 3rd brɛɛder, on April 4, 2024. He was immediately paired with our WC female. Today she laid an eggsac that we're hoping this time is fertile! 🤞🏻. Since the male is still alive, he's now been placed with our second female in this video!!
