We are a 501(c)3 Non-Profit all breed Michigan dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs and puppies in Michigan and Ohio that is foster based in the Metro Detroit area. We are dedicated to saving dogs and puppies in Michigan and Ohio. We will occasionally take in cats, kittens, pet birds, and bunnies on an as needed basis.

This cutie is Mister & he’s a 10ish week old, 11 pound pup looking for his fur-ever home!

Mister is a mixed breed & we are unsure of the mix as he is a single pup found outside in the snowstorm a few weeks ago.

Mister has the most adorable spotted nose, cute reddish brown eye patch & a slight fluff to his hair. He is very friendly & has a lot of puppy energy & will fill up a heart & home with lots of love very quickly ✨💖

Kendrick is an adorable & sweet little dude. Here’s what we know about him:
1-2 years old
15 pounds
Suspected griffon mix
Uneasy/unsure of men
Uneasy/unsure of medium/larhr dogs; likes dogs his size
Takes a few minutes to warm up to new people
Loves to run in the yard, including in the snow
Loves to cuddle
Loves baby talk
No issues with handling (picking up, bath, leash, collar)
Treat/food motivated
Enjoys the car
Doing very well with potty training (hasn’t had an accident since 1st day)
Neutered, microchipped, vaccinated & heartworm negative

✨ Sweet Lilly needs our help! ✨

This little girl was surrendered to us with her siblings (we are getting parents fixed) & we instantly saw dermoid cysts, greatly impacting one of her eyes. We got you, Lilly! ❤️🐾

Lilly ventured out to Wilson Veterinary Hospital for a consultation & will have surgery this Thursday. The dermoid cysts will be removed & likely one of her eyes, although they will attempt to save it.

Along with positive energy & prayers, Lilly is in need of donations to help her bill (estimate attached) & then she will be looking for her fur-ever home!

Kendrick here! Thank you to everyone for the well wishes. ❤️🐾

The nice people at the vet said I was ready to leave! I wasn’t sure where I was going, but I loved the car ride. I was given time & space to relax & a bath because I was still really stinky. Today I’m feeling super happy & am trusting easier. My tail is wagging!

I got these warm lamb jammies on after playing in the snow. I really like running around in the snow. I don’t know how to play with toys or balls 🥲

My foster mom says I have a lot of apps for people who want to adopt me! They’re going to look through them & find the best fit for me. I am the nicest & sweetest guy, but sometimes I am unsure what’s happening & can look confused 🤔

Please help us welcome Kendrick to the POET family! 🥰

We cannot think of any reason why someone would put a dog in a rubber tote, duct tape the lid closed and leave it on the side of the road in freezing temperatures, but that is the reality for Kendrick.

Kendrick was found yesterday morning (Thursday, 02/06/2025) after likely being left abandoned overnight in this tote with nothing but confusion.

Luckily an Earth angel was driving and the tote looked suspicious, so they pulled over and found Kendrick freezing and too scared to move. They provided him blankets and food while contacting rescues for help.

He was dropped off at our vet where he was warmed up, fed and examined. He is very scared and apprehensive (rightfully so) and is showing more uneasiness around men.

The state of the world, animal rescue and welfare is dire and unfortunately, due to many challenges like overpopulated shelters, rescues at capacity, increased costs and a lack of fosters/volunteers, animals are finding themselves more and more in situations like Kendrick. It is important we share his story for awareness. ❤️

Kendrick is estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old, 15 pounds and looks like a griffon mix. He is in need of a patient, calm and dedicated foster or foster to adopt home.

Gia is a gorgeous 7 year old mini Aussie. She's been raised in a loving home, but sadly her owner is ill and no longer able to care for her.

This sweet girl is only 20 lbs (her ideal weight is even less) and proof that good things come in small packages. Gia gets along with dogs and cats. She lived a quiet life with her owner so she would prefer a calm house and would be perfect for someone looking for a loyal cuddle buddy.

Gia is not used to going on walks, so finds them a bit overwhelming, but she would love a yard to run and fetch balls, which is her absolute favorite thing to do!

Hi my name is Wizard, you know the head guy in Wicked. I am about 2-3 years old, and weigh about 15 pounds. I was rescued from a home along with my wife and two kids. They have found amazing homes, but I’m still with my foster. I don’t think my publicist is very good. I know I am cute and amazing. I love people, dogs, cats, and more! We are so thankful to everyone who has supported us, adopted from us & sent well wishes for our animals in 2024 & alllllllll the years prior ❤️🐾

We received many generous & thoughtful donations
during the year & for the holiday/year end. We look back on 2024 with gratitude.

During this holiday time, we received soooo many holiday updates from adopted dogs. Truly the best!! We are filled with comfort & relief that our rescues always find the best homes.

Little Bit is looking for her fur-ever home!

She’s a 6 pound petite dog who came to us with a massive hernia that has been repaired & healed well.

Little Bit is around 7 years old & enjoys being held, doing well at crate training, likes other dogs & is a big NO to cats.

She enjoys being sweet/loving/calm, but also has times where she’s full of s***k!

Wooooow!!! Check out this glow up!!! Can you believe it’s only been 3.5 weeks & Croissant hasgone from hairless & crusty to this beautiful chocolate coat??? 😍 She is the sweetest, prettiest & luckiest girl. We are so happy she is thriving, safe & loving her life. She sure has gone a long way from being dumped in a field a month ago. We also want to give a huge thank you to Sarah E. for sending THREE boxes of potty pads, a puppy toy & a ball. You are the best!!

Well, it happened again, another box of abandoned puppies. This time left by a dumpster in Detroit. A Good Samaritan saw the box moving. One puppy was already decseased. Thank you to Detroit Pit Crew for taking them in. Poet is now fostering them. They are about 6 weeks old, 5 females, 1 male. They are the On the Go litter.

Croissant is dreaming of a home of her own! 🥐💤 This girl is super sweet, loves kids & enjoys cuddling up with everyone. And who can resist doggy snores? 🐶😴 Croissant is one of our mange puppies but as you can see she’s doing great & her hair is growing in beautifully. Croissant is 3.5 months old & is a mixed breed. P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization all breed dog and cat rescue. We established in 2012 to support the animals of Michigan and beyond.

The mission of P.O.E.T. Animal Rescue is to educate individuals on the needs of their pets and the growing problem that is pet overpopulation; to rescue and save the unwanted and at-risk dogs, cats, kittens and puppies who are crowding our shelters; to prevent future pet surrenders to high risk shelters by the education of their owners; spaying and neutering companion animals; responsible purchasing and adopting; behavior modification; solutions to behavior challenges; resources to help owners keep their pets safe, healthy and happy.
