Meet our May Pet of the Month, Ava!
We adopted Ava when she was ~1 year old from a rescue in Washington DC. A few months later we moved to the mountains of Colorado and it was the best decision we've ever made! Ava is now almost 9 years old and has spent the last 8 years living her absolute best life. Her favorite things are hiking, mountain biking, and taking naps in the sun. She also gets to go to the beach every summer with the rest of our family, and frequently joins us for climbing and camping trips (hammock naps are her favorite!). Her ears are the best thing I've ever seen, I have the outline of them as a tattoo on my ankle. She loves to snuggle, play, train, and is generally just happy to be included in whatever we do. She is the best girl we could ask for and makes us (and everyone she meets) smile every day! I share more of our adventures on Instagram if you want to see more of her cuteness.

4/20 is basically a state holiday in Colorado, and we want to encourage you and your furry friends to celebrate smartly and safely. With the higher concentrations and more and more tempting options for edibles on the market here, pets getting sick from getting into ma*****na is also on the rise. Ma*****na, like most other human medications is metabolized differently by pets, and edibles often contain additional toxins like chocolate and macadamia nuts. There is zero judgement from our team if your pet gets into your ma*****na, just be prepared to tell us what kind and how much they likely consumed, and we are happy to help them through what can be a very bad high. Meet our awesome Pet of the Month-Kamo!

Our rockstar pup from Denver Akita in Fort Morgan, is hands down the friendliest dog ever!
We scooped her up during a tough time when our cat passed away, as well as expecting our first child. Our house felt so empty, but Kamo strutted in and filled it with love in no time. She's like the cool kid on the block who's always up for fun with our little ones!
She’s our four-year-old and two-year-old's best buddy, and she's the most well-behaved Akita you'll ever meet. Plus, she's a social butterfly! Friendly to every person and dog she crosses paths with!

Her favorite things are playing in the snow, playing dress up with the kids, and giving massive cuddles!

Kamo has lived in three different states with us and is happy to be back in Colorado where she receives the greatest care and love from Orchard Vet Clinic! We are beyond blessed to have her!

Meet Toby:

Toby was rescued from one of the colonias where we have done several sterilization campaigns and where sadly there is a lot of impunity and therefore a lot of abuse. He received a blow to the right occipital part of his head. His body was paralyzed. Other animal rescue groups were going to put him to sleep but Armando brought him to the shelter for rehabilitation. He spent a long time in quarantine healing his wounds. The blow caused him to lose his balance for a long time and he always ate in the same position. Cleaning him was a daily challenge that was handled by our senior staff member, Ismar. For three months we never heard him bark. He is a very special case for us because when he was rescued, he smelled like death. But now, except for a slight head tilt, Toby is completely rehabilitated and at 30kg, a beautiful, friendly and loving dog. Before and after photos!

Meet Rocky (the loving dog Mallori took for a walk) -

Rocky was abandoned at the shelter last year, just before Christmas, tied up to the entrance. At first, his behavior was aggressive but now he is quite docile and also quite curious. He takes YOU for a walk. 😆 He is a very noble dog who loves to be pampered. We think he is around six years old. Weighing in at 30kg, he is in great shape, strong, well behaved and quite affectionate.

Meet Ely (she is the sweet dog I took for a walk)-

We rescued her and 11 other dogs from high school number 19. She has escaped from her cage many times because she jumps very high and can fit through the opening between the ceiling and the door. She is super playful and has a lot of energy. She is used to being with young people because she lived with them at school. Ely is very affectionate and would do well in a home with a large yard or lots of outside space.

Thank you all so much for supporting me, Mallori and Alyssa traveling to Mexico to volunteer for the Los Cabos Humane Society and PET Los Cabos. These organizations are doing the very best they can with the resources they have. We are deeply humbled by how they serve their communities!

This holiday season, I am hoping to make Christmas dreams come true for some of these lovely dogs and cats. While it is not practical to fly to Cabo and adopt the pets, we can provide on-going monthly sponsorships until they find their forever homes. I will create individual posts for 3 of their special dogs so stay tuned for posts on Ely, Rocky and Toby :o)
